    Just to say that by splitting your tape you are reducing the maximum current you can carry. Probably ok for battery use, but might be an issue if you move up to a 5v supply ie USB

    Your parallel circuit is really a series circuit and this is why your LEDs get dimmer the more you add. A parallel circuit uses its own wire and as you add LEDs they will all receive the same voltage. . In a series circuit the voltage is addition of all the voltage elements. In a parallel circuit the voltage is the same for all elements.
