      Now they just need to bring in Justin Bender... 😆 On an unrelated note, I found myself laughing at bits during the aftershow. I guess that makes me one of the 8 listeners. Haha

    Man.
    For a split-second, I thought the "BAAAADDD INVESTMENT ADVICE" from the couch potato pod was not going to be used and I was utterly disappointed.

    You guys should get the byrd and chen tax textbooks, they're used in the CPA program and seem to have addressed most of the personal tax questions I've heard you guys ponder. Much easier reading than the ITA or CRA bulletins.

    1:08:10 - catastophe bonds could be an interesting source of diversification to consider. These are bonds issued by insurance companies that pay out if no extreme catastophic weather event occurs. I guess interest rates will still play a role, but these should have low correlation to the main asset classes.

    Most fascinating diversifying asset class that doesnt depend on DIscount rates is GOLD!

    Great discussions as always. As far as using your average tax rate on RRSP withdrawals, this is the correct approach when analysing the value of RRSPs vs TFSAs. The missing variable in your analysis is the time value of tax free growth within the RRSP. As an example, if you track the RRSP vs TFSA over the course of 30 years and if you contribute the initial RRSP tax refund to aTFSA (you could also spend the money at the time but harder to track value), you will see the benefit of the after tax RRSP withdrawal and TFSA withdrawal after 30 years of growth. Follow the money!

      So which one has higher value after 30 years?

    • @markm5002
      @markm5002 5 місяців тому

      @@freedomlife3623 After 30 years the RRSP combined with putting the tax refund in a TFSA has the greater value than a pure TFSA. This is based on a marginal tax rate of 31% on the way into the RRSP and an average tax rate of 14.5% on the way out in retirement.

    You are questioning the S&P500 and than say you invest money in S&P300 x3...

    is the sentence "Im adding S&P500 to my QQQ for diversification" wrong. technically its correct no? your overall portfolio is now less indexed to QQQ.

      It’s not wrong, but it’s not adding much diversification, and the combination of the two is still severely lacking in diversification.

    as a citizen of norway, i think our wealth fund should simply be a market cap weighted portfolio of all public assets traded in democracies, i think its irresponsible to even assume the factor research literature is worth betting on, since it has the longest of long horizons, the fund should be agnostic to any specific strategy

      @jimbojimbo6873 to avoid nationalization of our foreign investor claims, and self correction towards good economic policy.
      if a democracy turns autocratic that can be good for stocks, but autocracies will in the long term begin to make bad decisions due to an inability to self-reflect
