Test may be started at bath temperature 30 degree celcius, to maintain oil temperature at 20 to 23 degree Celsius isbit difficult, it is acceptable to initiate the test at the temp of 30 deg C, refer ASTM D1525, ISO 75

Okay basically 2 temp.-rates, but what is the initial temperature according to ISO 306? After reaching the penetration of 1mm into the polymer while applying the 10N or 50N force, you multiply the testing time with the chosen temp.-rate and get the vicat softening temperature, is that right?

Initial temp of oil bath (where the sample will be immersed) is 23°C.
then we will apply load ( vicat A =10N , vicat B=50N) with heating up the oil bath at rate of 50°C per hour or 120°C per hour (note: usually material supplier will provide you material data sheet with two VST ( test with 50°C per hour and test with 120°C per hour).
Regarding time, yes it is incorporated in test by heating rate.

Are the opening graphs true for all polymers or just thermoplastics?
