As another type 1, I'm sorta on the fence. The 90s were rough for me and I kept nearly kicking the bucket 'cause adults never believed me when my blood sugar was low or high and I felt sick. Heck, even within the last ten years, I ended up in the ER and then got admitted after passing out from a hypo, needed to be revived, and the in-patient staff decided to give me 0 insulin for a whole day. The highs were incredible. Maybe we can call it deadly diabeebees or DBeeBee for short?
i want Brain leak to do a women's health related sponsor segment for something super specific with words most people don't know and watch them go ham on the improv
As a farmer's daughter, hearing them talk about farming is hilarious. Basically, harvest season is between June and the start of November (depending on the crops you grow). For example, we harvest grasseed and blueberries in July, and hazelnuts in September and October. I think nowadays we could do without daylight savings time though, my dad never mentioned needing it.
Honestly even though they didn't work for me I'd recommend NOT taking medication for the first month to have a back up supply for the inevitable incompetence from a medical professional that just outsources compass or a call center to handle his call volume.
I am learning so much about male anatomy by listening to this podcast... more than I ever needed or wanted to know. They need to get a female guest on now to balance the scales. Not only would it be educational, but most likely hilarious. Keep doin' your thing, Brain and Leak! ❤👍✌️
Sean having anxiety and adhd is such a struggle! Got to have that anxiety under control (meds/therapy) before adhd medication cuz it does the opposite!
Ethan asks "is Johnathan Frakes still alive?" Then a million Star Trek fans scream at their monitors "YES!!!!" He is very much alive and directing and acting in a ton of new Star Trek shows. And yes, you should get him on your show, he's an awesome guy.
02:44 "Do you ever start a podcast and realize your pits smell?" That would've been a perfect segway into a Scentbird ad. "Well, with today's sponsor Scentbird you can not only cover your smelly armpits up, but also your entire body odor if necessary!!!!"
The 'estrogen in soy' thing *is* actually just an urban legend. Soy contains something called "phytoestrogen" which *is not* the same as estrogen. The human body doesn't do anything with it. It just gets disintegrated like any other food compound.
it is a plant estrogen which in some odd cases can have a very small effect on the body, though it's more likely that the soy boy thing was in his subconscious while drinking it and even being convinced that something could happen can make the body just do it
The talk better while you move is a mood. I have ADHD and I pace a lot. Not because I'm nervous about something; it just soothes my brain enough so I can think better.
26:47 I was so excited to hear Ethan talk for a tiny amount of time about him taking welding. I did the same thing, took the welding class and absolutely loved it. Except I loved it so much, I made it my career. All from one small little class that should've meant nothing but just credits to finish school. Also, yes, Sean, you do use tungsten rods for TIG welding.
Sean's experience with ADHD is so similar to mine, it seems even out experiences with medications are similar. I was so hopeful hearing people (one of them being my brother) talk about how much their meds help. Then I tried a few and each time when asked if they were helpful I was like "???". Like I couldn't tell much difference, mostly they just increased my anxiety :P
this made me really nostalgic for my first puppy. when she was a senior and starting having doggie pancreatitis my stepdad made her steps using spare wood planks, carpet, and a staple gun and it helped her so much
i think regardless works the way ethan thinks it does, it’s essentially saying whatever to something, like how you’d say you’re going out regardless of weather. in ethan’s case it can be used to cap off a tangent or little bit of fluff when talking, so it could go like this: “i think that guy at the carnival who stole my tickets was really shitty, regardless i really liked most of the experince at the carnival as a whole”. it’s definitely just more flowery language but it works!
About the bad mood while on adhd meds: I went off meds for a long time because I Had really bad side effects and when I started again my prescribing psychiatrist told me about strattera which is not an amphetamine but was developed as an antidepressant. It helps less with performance problems or concentration for me than the other meds but it really helps with emotional dysregulation, sleep and overall any other bad symptom of adhd. I feel like it does a lot for procrastination as well, since I've been taking it (I think two years now) i've been finishing college assignments well before deadlines most of the time. I'm less anxious and nervous and it's far less addictive than other meds so you don't have to worry about what would happen if you come off after longterm use. The only Side effect I experienced from strattera was intense tiredness in the first few weeks and Sometimes when I forgot to take it for a few days and then take it again but it's always gone after like a day or two. I encourage anyone who has problems with vivanse, which is already supposed to be the best for people who suffer from Side effects with other meds, to look into strattera. It's great, it doesn't change your personality, it's not an upper and I genuinely believe if more people would know about it a lot of patients who struggle could have a better chance at living a very good life with adhd without having to choose between crushing side effects and being unmedicated
Project Hail Mary is amazing!!! The other one I got recommended in the same “I like this book and this book” was scythe a very good book series! I have reread both of them!
My biggest linguistic pet peeve (after "I could care less"), as a musician, is when someone says a story "reached a crescendo." You don't reach a crescendo. The crescendo is the reaching.
Hmm, is that how crescendo works? I always thought it meant both the rising part of a thing and also the highest point of the thing. So like music could crescendo, but also reach a crescendo, in which case it would be at its loudest point. Language is hard.

I just took a bit ol schlurp of chunky tomato soup when sean opened the episode with "Have you ever gone down a slide after a child has shit themselves?"
I'd love to see Sean do a livestream painting some warhammer figures, maybe just buying a lil boxset or something and painting them while just chilling and talking with a friend, could be a fun time.
I would love a building/cooking video from you Sean. I hope you do make content like that bc it would be really nice to see what boy math you do to make stuff ❤❤❤
I had the same issues as Sean with my adhd meds. My doc put me on a non-stimulant version and it’s not 100% the best solution but it works and I don’t feel like I’m gonna have a heart attack.
The tube down the throat is called an Endoscopy! You're put completely under anesthesia, the only part you actually experience, is them asking you to bite your front teeth on a little mouth piece so your jaw doesn't lock closed while under (so nowhere near the gag reflex, bc im also SUPER sensitive to that), so you just wake up a bit groggy and with a dry mouth XD I had one done a few years ago, and I was super scared, but it ended up not being that bad!
God yeah, getting ADHD meds refilled can be SUCH a nightmare. I was also unable to get more for two-three months recently, and by god it was frustrating.

Book recommendation for Sean: The children of time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, its a series of 3 books. Sci-fi, it's well written and about humanity being fucked, space travel and different species evolving. I think you might like it ~
LUL yeah, the front fart. Literally one of the two things I wish boys could experience. A true period-- the whole shebang and then a front bubble fart.
Ahh, the American medical system. I bet I know what meds you are on and that they finally went generic. I had so much trouble refilling during that transition.
Hey Jack, I think it might be helpful for you to look into something called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome :) it’s a connective tissue disorder that can cause Hypermobility, easy bruising, chronic pain, GI issues, frequent joint dislocations/subluxations, and a lot more. I have it and I’ve been watching you for 9 years, and I feel like our physical experiences are very similar. Might be worth looking into- love ya! 💕
I feel the struggle of getting your ADHD meds refilled. I recently found out from my doctor that there's a national shortage of ADHD/ADD meds in the US.
9:29 this part is crazy to me because that’s how I feel when I’m OFF my meds so it’s wild that some medication that’s supposed to help people can make some feel how I feel on a regular basis

As a farmer's daughter, hearing them talk about farming is hilarious. Basically, harvest season is between June and the start of November (depending on the crops you grow).
