  • I reviewed my '81 Pantah 500 earlier, and wanted to discuss some of the differences between it and this 600. Bigger motor, hydraulic clutch, different fairing - that's about it. I am always astonished at how good the Pantahs are on the highway - they are true high speed cruisers, though they look nothing like that.

I spy a blue Paso! purchased mine from Bob Miller's shop in Clinton, CT in 1988. Soooo different. Just had to have it. bub pipes yes, weber carbs no, they had to go. and don't get caught in traffic on a hot summer day. I'd love to grab a pantah again. A friend here who raced F1's with the late great Jimmy Adamo and maestro Reno Leoni has a beautiful F1, but alas, I'm not in a track day environment. Nice bike, enjoy.

Yes, my blue '88 has twin Mikunis and Conti pipes. Runs very, very nicely. My red '87 has twin DelOrtos and Staintunes, while my '88 Limited is all original. I just live with the flat spot.

In South Africa in the early 80's these 600's (583cc) won the 750cc superbike (Road bikes) titles and the 500 the 560 superbike titles.
They increased the 500cc class size from 560cc to 575cc to include the Honda CBX 550 (573cc) but wouldn't go any bigger so at to not include the Ducati 600 which was already winning in the 750cc class.
The handling and aerodynamics on these bikes was much better than the Japanese bikes even though the power on the Ducati was much less.( I raced a 500 Pantah at that time, I still have it in the garage)

Oh that is interesting to know. Yes the Pantahs did very well here in Canada too. That makes it hard to find one that hasn't been all 'modified' for racing. But this one and my 500 are very close to original, even with original exhaust and the airbox! I'm riding them as is.

I have a TL that then went TT2 rep and now is almost an SL. And a 3c Laverda, small world

Very nice!, I purchased my 600SL in 1989, (it came as a grey market bike from Canada) my handle bars are Magura solid alloy and my pipe is something like a Conti head-pipes with Overlander exhaust, I think my cams are a little different. Those Ape hanger bars you have there are pretty interesting and I think those are Raask rearsets on that bike too. I keep my stock footrests and levers in a bag now since they are very rare and valuable, I purchased a cheap set of rearsets from a small outlet in Italy and they cost my next to nothing, now they're not around anymore. The reason why I kept mine for so long is that it is the most fun you can have on a cafe type bike. It handles great, has great balance and can corner like crazy, it's just fun to ride!

I'm in Ontario, Canada. I have the stock clipons and rearsets too. Otherwise this is all as it came from the factory to the showroom.

I recall the little lower spoiler that braces the main fairing has a DESMO decal on it. Otherwise, they are very underrated Ducati’s because they are considered to be the baby Ducati.

That decal you saw was probably added, the bikes never came with any decals on that spoiler. I added one years ago to my bike. Speaking of underrated, I rode mine pretty heavy all through out the years and sometimes I've taken many larger faster bikes on the twisties no problem! It revs, it goes and it has great feedback. My favorite bike!
