@@anchor3740 Azor makes quality bikes like these today. You'd need to import it though. I got mine from a company called 'Amsterdam Bicycle' online. Check out 'Azor' bikes on UA-cam if you are interested.
Great man, great interview. He came from a time where stuff was repaired if it got broken. These days very little gets fixed. Almost everything is disposable
I live in Bulgaria now - we still have repair shops here for everything. I bought 2 1960 communist-era electric irons as doorstops. I was able to buy the electrical lead for them 400m from my apartment. BOTH still work fine. I love it - in a world where Apple change the charger plug every 18 months I can still get the standard communist ceramic plug for things that get hot for £1.50 locally. And YES all things that get hot have the same ceramic plug on them. Cookers, Grills, heaters, irons.
@@greenandgold6814 - I could not believe they still worked. I have thrown 5 modern steam irons out in the last 10 years, broken and unrepairable. Sealed plastic piles of sh!t that I am convinced have a timer in them to die 3 days after the 2 year warranty runs out... The problem with these old ones is they have no thermostat - but my god do they flatten a shirt LOL - 2.7lg / 6lb each they weigh.
Hey dont knock it, 2021 the incentive now get out of your car and (on yer bike) in the winter of his life he is still fit enough 16 miles on a sunday not bad for at all...absolute legend
I wonder where the bike is now? I have and ride a black 1949 Raliegh Roadster 3 speed, rod brakes etc. it's a good old bike and I suspect rare.... 30mph down the hills!
50 years riding the same bicycle. From the interaction between his ass and the saddle there's a lot of human atoms in the bicycle and a lot of bicycle atoms in him. Hes fast becoming half bike half human!😂😂.
Cycled 50,000 miles over 50 years on a second hand bicycle, what a legend. 🚲👍
This man is my hero. Keeping a bike for 50 years. If it does the job, why not?
because you can get a newer modern one that does the job better
@@anchor3740 well, yes that's very true. But they do cost more than 30 bob. Smile!

“I wouldn’t be annoying the public with a bell!”
Flann O brien would have enjoyed that relationship between that man and his bicycle
With the medal of Our Lady on the front. Love it.

@@piccalillipit9211 that's brilliant. Some things are so reliable and well made and still around today

I am f-king sick of it.
That musical montage at the end is one of the greatest things I've ever seen. What a legend
[holding bike] “The last offer was a hundred pound.” “And did you accept it?”
This is how our grandparents lived their lives on a day to day basis.
Yes ,and I think they were happier people than the majority of the present generations.
What a lovely gracious gentleman. The miraculous medal attached to the handlebar, I'm sure She brought him safely on his journeys.
Great bike he only replaced the frame once the wheels twice, saddle three times and the handle bars once
According to his account of its age back then, it would be 110 years old today.
Superb, no fat on Jim!
Good to glimpse what Ireland looked like the year I was born. My father had a similar bike, the Mans version, in Co Carlow.

I hope there are a few characters like this old guy still left in Ireland, whatever about the same make of bicycle!
all gone sure that was 50 years ago and he would have been in his 60's at least ......the like of him will never be seen again
As far as I know the man in the video Jim McGrath from Ballinasloe died in 2010, not sure what age though, must have been a hundred or thereabouts.
I hope Mr McGrath puts in a good word upstairs for us that are left down here and talking about him.!!
I love your channel and old these old, footage… I live in Belgium and have nothing to do with Ireland though..
This was prime time tv back in the day.
A great man.

Great view of the town back in the day
I think he might have regretted not having Brakes if he came through Slane or perhaps down to Castleisland))
Great... This makes me want to dig my old bicycle out of my shed and go ride it.... Hummm maybe not. God bless you all out there..
He'd have to buy new shoes pretty frequent!
Love this story 💕💕💕
Where would you be without a bell on yer bike!
I hope he got the £150...😁
£200 in 1971 Brakes and lights come as extras £250.
a mighty man was jim
Trusty old Brook saddle
Ball breaker!
@@patscanlan2678 very true.but last forever
The old Raleigh bicycle was built for endurance, unlike todays Raleigh which is pure junk..
I think it's a Rudge Whitworth; take a look at the chainwheel and the headbadge
Yes rudge witworth non Raleigh
it's had 10 new sets of wheels and 10 new frames and saddles but it's the same bike
This is so Father Ted. Surprised theyre not visiting St. Kevins Stump
Flan O'Brien would be proud. The man is likely to be 70% bicycle by this time
Bicycle race by QUEEN would be a great sound track for the end loved the video I want to ride my bicycle i want to ride my bike 🚴♀️
Classic
No brakes and no bell. He wants 200 quid for it.
Its no wonder he still rides it.
Wonder if he gets an adrenalin rush with near misses .
If he still had the bike today I'd give him 200 punts for it.
200 punts 9 shillings and six pence?
It certainly looks like it's done a turn or two
Imagine if he had hydraulic disc brakes
"Ah, I wouldn't be annoying the public with the noise offa dem tings!"
I have a 3 speed.
I don't drive, but bike 8000km (5000 miles) a year.
I'm going to be sad when my generation is this old, we won't match the class of those before us.
He should have entered Tour de France
How fast is it?
The brakes would be handy going down a steep hill many men and women know when it was too late
I wonder is she still going ?

Ballinasloe
Hon the town, great town back then, right up into the eighties.
I wonder is that bike still intact or maybe it got recycled.
You're pushing it
I am not so sure the song at the end of the conversation was appropriate for that man and his antique bicycle.
Breaks!!!! what are those.....
would ya take two fiddy?
So the bike will be o er a hundred years old now if its stll around 🇬🇧👍
Slow news day ?
Needs air in the front tyre.
NO...THEY ARE LOW PROFILE.
Not in Ireland
It only a crock
The oldest bicycle in Ireland? Twink!
It’s much better I don’t smack me balls hehe
