HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE SPOILER FOR THE END SO PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO FIRST IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE SPOILED! The run came to an unexpectedly early end and I have 4 potential theories as to why it was so early: #1: I did something in the old wave 1000 run that I wasn't aware of that allowed me to get so far (also, that 1000 run had a specific save setup so I got wanted items a lot faster/more of them) #2: Curse scaling is just too much, referring to the health and speed increase #3: I should have went for the Potato Throwers - not because of the damage, but Giant's Belt. The issue with that train of thought is that Giant's Belt loses it's effectiveness (the % amount decreases) starting at wave 40, so being at wave 180+ probably means it has no impact anymore or just a very tiny, unnoticable one. However, knockback may have helped though IIRC enemies also become more resistant over time. IMPORTANT THOUGH, this would cause a huge amount of lag and instead of making things better may have also just made them a lot worse. #4: It was just unlucky - yea, it sounds simple but it needs to be understood that the cost increase of items and thus higher recycle value eventually shoots up your HP in ginormous steps, and I may have just been at the border of that and a bunch of things came together at the same time to cause the loss. I say that cause I saw the other waves and the enemies gradually took more Tardigrades over them, slowly. But going from 15 (previous low) down to 0 is a HUGE jump, which is very out of line and thus one reasonable explanation is getting very unlucky The loss may have been due to 1 or several of these reasons, or something I am not thinking of.
So, for curse scaling, the regular cap is 300 curse, providing a 750% total HP buff to the enemies, but, endless also has a special curse factor, which at your curse amount gave the enemies around 650% more hp, and 320% damage, however whats important is the HP. THe endless curse factor is seperate from regular curse buff, and is multiplicative, meaning, 8.5 x 7.5 = 63.5, meaning it provides a whopping 6275% bonus HP to the enemies. (edit: i forgot black flag, which is another multiplicative 10% health increase, so the total Hp buff from curse/dlc content would be 6902.5%) A second small, but potential reason is that due to the elites you took in your first 20 waves, you not only lost out on hp, but had to invest more into specific stats like armour, which couldve thrown off your economy and scaling This one is a shot in the dark, but the abyss also seems to have more tanky enemies than crash zone in your pre dlc run, padding was a limited of 3, with +1 max hp for every 100 materials, meaning a total of +3 max hp per 100 materials, compared with the new +1max hp per 80 materials. so nearly 3x less health from padding. Another item nerf was spicy sauce, with limit going for 4->3 and chance of explosiom going 25%->33%. while this doesnt sound like a nerf, damage from spicy sauces is additive, meaning from 400% of HP down to 300% of hp is a 25% reduction. On top of this, you didnt get all of your spicy sauces cursed, which wouldve helped your damage amounts Finally, You were a lot less selective with your items as compared to your 1000 wave run. So you passed up a lot of oppurtunities to further increase your damage scaling to make up for the massive enemy hp multiplier from curse. This is all i can tell for now, I will need to take a deeper dive into your old video to see if i can find other reasons, but comparing your wave 183 to your pre dlc runs wave 200, you have far more hp and %damage, leading me to suspect that it is mainly the endless curse scaling that did you in. Hope this Helps! Edit 2.0: looking at your last video, even at wave in your old one, you were still moving/dodging around, which you werent here.
okay so additionally, tooth was nerfed, and these -speed items are multiplicative, so still have good value in endless, and i dont think you got either for them curse, which certainly hurts. Additionally recycing machine scales not only with inflation but also with shop price, which means the times you held many many cursed mirrors were hurting your recyling values (i think could be wrong on this one) And im also looking into to more of the specifics on the 1.10 patch ntoes, in which is said sources of enemy stats are now multiplicatve instead of additive, which im not sure which stats were additive before (not all were) but that could theoretically have an effect. Still the urse is the big culprit, because at best it essentially can double scaling, but the enemy scaling bonus is much larger. ontop of this, most economy items introduced in the dlc have little value passed wave 100, as you cant afford much anyways. also this is anecdotal evidence, but ive noticed when i play the game is significantly laggier in dlc, which i would guess has to do with the curse mechanic and the unique seperation of the items, which most likely lengthens certain parts of the code, making it laggier. not to mention godot (W game engine, i love it so much, but thats unrelated) is limitied in brute strength, so lag also hurts you a lot. Btw, grammarly said my last message came accross as condescending, and i really hope you dont read it that way. I just simultaneously love brotato and am a big fan of your channel
It was unlucky. With Lag being the most likely cause. I am using a similar strategy with my own "don't buy list" and am currently on wave 500+. So, It is definitely viable.
@@biojawn oh yeah, it was definitly also unlucky, but curse and dlc deffo makes it harder. curse combined with some subpar earlier economy/scaling with some unlucky lag is the root cause as a whole. makes me wonder if avoiding rip and tear could help
I think you underestimate the amount of damage potato throwers could do. idk though; would need a direct comparison of per round damage for spicy sauce vs potato throwers. they have lower scaling per hit than spice sauce but the projectiles per second can get crazy high the slow down of particle accelerators is also worth consideration imo.
56:24 particle accelerators are also hugely underrated for late game at this point. 1 of them practically stops all enemies in their tracks at wave 250, including elites and bosses. I am not sure if 2 of them would perform better, as I accidentally restarted my run (fml) before I could test that. I am 95% sure that having multiple wouldn't increase the slow down but i do think that having multiple would just make sure all elites are tagged by it sooner, which might be needed as with the ramping speeds, elites were getting closer and closer before they got hit with the accelerator and stopped. I also did that run standing in the middle of the map, not running to a corner, because I was worried my pick up range wasn't big enough to collect enough fruits while standing in the corner but standing in the corner would give the particle accelerators less of an arc to cover, so 1 might have been sufficient if standing in the corner.
I recently did a druid run (my first time playing druid) and I made it to wave 90 the furthest by 30 waves and it was hell, kudos to you man for constantly doing runs like this.
One cool idea I got for a run would be with the GMO mod where you have all the pickup bonus characters, like the Druid, farmer and the explosion guy I think
It is an exponential scale, so technically you would need an infinite amount of curse. However, the game tends to round up decimals so there is probably an achievable amount that is necessary to curse everything in the shop.
You need to combine before rolling so you have one weapon slot empty. You get a way higher chance for more weapons which makes you scale way faster in the beginning^^
Giants belt will get 1% less effective each wave from wave 21 onward due to endless factor. It's often more beneficial to immediately take Giants belt if you get the option, rather than waiting for it to get cursed.
It starts at wave 38 onward and is a multiplier on its effectiveness, we had a recent run where I got negative damage and giants belt carried for ~10 rounds at wave 55+
I think druid ends up being the best late game. This is because of the infinite luck scaling and pearl conversation to damage and luck scaling weapons like flute. Currently on wave 400 with no end in sight besides my patience for dealing with the lag. Though how easy it is to get the runs going I am unsure, I got lucky with early hooks and cursed every economy item and pearl. Also started with pruner then changed to flutes around wave 40 to 60. The early pruners felt pretty bad.
Yeah Druid is comically ahead of Demon currently, to the point where I managed to get to wave 1000 on Druid without picking up any Spicy Sauce and limited my gardens to 11. The entire run felt comfortably safe cause I never lacked damage
Yea, I think nothing will beat Druid. It's as if you scaled your damage with damage but also the bonus damage with damage. And you can also curse the already mental pearls. The only issue I could possibly see is that Druid is limited to production speed, while Demon will eventually get so much out of recycling that it should always end up being the strongest option (as in, one is limited, the other will infinitely scale up). However, the real question is if you can even reach that point
So an idea I have for a fun run is Baby with just one Captain's Sword and hoping the weapons buff counts the 23 empty slots. Would have to get crazy attack speed and low range for it to work farther than wave 30 tho. Maybe use Ghost Daggers while unlocking slots and while rerolling for the Captain's Sword.
It would be interesting to compare gains between material run Vs current ho run. E.g. all for economy with hope that increased amounts of materials will bring more value then just hp.
Hey there. I did quite a few Demon endless runs already. Bench marks for a great run is around 30.000% dmg at wave 75ish and you want your level to be roughly 7-8times higher than your wave number. You also gave up on the bone dice, which gives the greatest power Spike "early". Getting them cursed to 2 or 3 is a must. With low reroll prices it contributes a few thousand % in earlier stages before luck kicks in and starts carrying. (You roughly pay 2hp for 20% dmg the entire run...epic value) Greetings from Germany
hey dex, havent watched the vid yet, but in the patch notes recently they mentioned better performance woith fruits and explosions, and i was wondering if you have notcied that or not? THe update came out today i think
Hi Dex, you inspired me, so I used the Druid with garden scissors to run through the campaign. Problem is the Playstation 5 is REALLY struggling once there are 10+ Gardens that spawn a fruit every 0.2 seconds. (paired with explosion radius and damage in the 100k) I literally ran from 53-60 without even having a weapon equipped just running around the screen with 200 speed and 2000 hp (starting at half health so all fruits come to me and instakill every boss). just to collect the fruits before they accumulate too much and the framerate drops to 1 every second ... in the End I had to deperately try to kill myself (took me 3 round to manage ) just to avoid my PS5 to crash :( absolutely insane build! Thanks for the inspiration and joy you bring us! :)
Yeah, RAM is the biggest problem of the current console generation. The optimization of games is nowadays so poor that the consumption of RAM and vRAM just skyrocketed and at time of release wasn't considered. Both Xbox and PS struggle with that and it's the main point why the Xbox Series S (12GB RAM) is falling behind Series X and PS5 (16GB RAM). The CPU and GPU in both are actually potent enough for a lot more, so nowadays the spec comparison doesn't really make sense as they are all bottlenecked on the same thing xD
Is the botato thrower a good weapon for the builder turrent i know it will change the scaling for engineering but the main character can still do damage that way.
man seeing the 26% cursed hook, saddens me as i had run with ghost where i got, on wave 8, a cursed cursed hook that had 33% chance... and proceeded to die on wave 9 cause for whatever reason i never saw the piercing... and attack speed was barely not enough
Recycle Item: Recycles One Item - Ignores Curse Type: Unique Consumable Wave it Appears: 10+ Chance To Appear: 1/750-3 per wave until out of item pool. Limit: 3 This fair mod guarantees 97.5% Angry German Screaming and 2.5% Insane German Laughter.😁
i think i found a build that can be really good if you hold onto it there are 2 explorer with trees and the pocket factory and technomage with screwdrivers it gets fast quick
Another item: Undo Roll: Price: 10x Wave 1 Rarity: Common Drop Chance: 1/2000 Max Per Run: ONE with 2 undo 3 if cursed. Adds an Undo button with the count X of 2/3 added when obtained. Must ensure an Angry German Scream/Insane Laugh ratio.
Brilliant strategy! What if you built knock back with hands to help keep enemies back while the gardens spawn? Likely it wouldn't make a huge difference, and I'm sure you excluded weapons for a reason if only to prove a point. Lol. Very very cool to see the game broken this way and to theorize on how to improve the strategy further. I think in the future you'll find a true infinite if one exists. Well done!
Really interesting run! Demon is GOATed af. I keep getting stuck around wave 100 due to the absurd explosion lag. Not sure what causes it, but it's like small dust cloud explosions that happen all over the screen. The last 40 seconds takes literally >8min to finish. Gonna try and find a workaround so I can limit test and compare with yours.
Hey Dex. There was a recent patch that said something about improving some particals (burn, explosion, etc.) Do you know, if this improved lategame FPS? I'm currently stuck at wave 118 and its super annoying to wait 5 Minutes in afk for a singular wave to finish😅
What if instead of going for all those gardens, you just get 1-2 insane producing ones? The game would have much less to process in the background and just might reduce the lag a bit.
Wouldn't it be possible to make a mod that when you chose to set UP by making a take or not take list for the chests items and a tiers-list for the upgrades from XP and then it goes through thoses phases almost instantly with maybe a recap after
you should do another run where you are limited to only using a specific legendary weapon, i was playing vanilla brotato earlier, and got chain gun whilst playing cyborg. i obliterated everything and im not even good at the game mind you, but that combo is absolutely broken. theres also scythe with masochist. honestly any heavy weapon would work, but im thinking it should legendaries, you could use lifesteal with gatling laser but thats not going to last long, if i were to do that. itd be with sick who is not good into the endgame. it should be similar to when you did dextroyers only, so you start with the legendary weapon and theres the mod that makes every red item have a 25% (iirc) chance to be a weapon. idk it just sounds fun and chaotic
Hey dex can you do this challenge please. Rules 1 no picking up any money making items like the starfish or hunting trophy 2 you can use any weapons and characters you want. 3 spawn with to many killer bunnies and cursed spyglasses 4 you can pick up any items that INDIRECTLY increase money like the recycling machine or the coupons 5 you are allowed to increase harvesting to earn money
Is there a way to mod the game in a way that nothing is drawn anymore and it becomes pretty much a "console/log" game with auto sell everything and reroll x times and auto buy tardegrades? Just so see how far a build can go. This assumes of course that the lag comes from drawing stuff
I wonder if taking coupon uncursed is even worth it on Demon? Assuming you're going for an endless run where you reset if you don't get fish hook early, then I think waiting to get a decent curse level on it is could be better. I'm thinking like, 5% isn't going to save you anything until stuff starts costing 20 hp, which is a fair way into the game, so waiting to get it cursed and saving the 1 hp on stuff that costs maybe 10-15 hp is more reasonable. Just my idle thoughts though on trying to be super crazy optimal, I doubt it's really a significant enough difference to matter in about 90% of cases
Warum hast du keine Alien Augen genommen oder andere Sachen die mit leben schlieren ? Und die letzten zerfetzter bin mir nicht sicher dass b du alle hattest
What's the point of locking only one item while having fishhook unless there is a pity bonus? It does make sense only in this particular scenario because then you actually have higher chance of getting cursed item and don't know which one receive this higher probability, otherwise you can lock as many items as you think it pays off because every single of them has the same chance of getting curse.
It's a guarantee it will happen due to pity, but I don't usually do it unless it's a fish hook or something I need or else I lose very soon. Making sure you get the fish hooks done asap seriously cuts down on locked shop slots
Why the Handcuffs is good? It’s limited your HP, that should be bad if you try to go endless right? The more HP you have the lesser chance you get killed before become strong enough to instantly kill
At that level you just instantly die, it doesnt make a difference if you have it or not. The s you get between hits gets reduced starting wave 40, its the reason I sometimes lost like 5-10 Tardigrades in a split second
@ Wow, this is new to me. But there is still 1 issue, some build/items have HP scale, some of them very strong, does Handcuffs not affect them or what? I saw your old vids, in some you have Handcuffs but they still scale, i know at that point you have plenty of different way for damage scale but still, it confuse me.
I could make you an auto item picker completely recoded from my janky ahk tool into a better language, the German of code. I'd even add a hover GUI overlay that lets you check off a list of items/stats to prioritize and a set amount of rolls from 0 to X per wave. Item picking can be done on a scale of 0-1000/item or smart based on detected build, but that's getting into being a pure bot. Also, it's something that when given should never be shared because I will steal functions to save time without giving credit. After all, one person will be using it.

Well done!
modded shnannigans idea: 10 eyepatches. -100% accuracy +10 pierce on crit. good luck.
I just did Entrepreneur with hiking sticks until wave 40 and then got 3 sniper guns and made it to wave 100.
I've been playing lately and this is a great game.
Hey Dex. There was a recent patch that said something about improving some particals (burn, explosion, etc.) Do you know, if this improved lategame FPS? I'm currently stuck at wave 118 and its super annoying to wait 5 Minutes in afk for a singular wave to finish😅
26:00 da kam der Deutsche aber KEKW
I feel like the devs are gonna have to get a restraing order on you for the way you abuse thier game.
If you want to fry your game I want to see Druid + Glutton + Lucky
ich liebe diesen Akzent wenn ein Deutscher Englisch spricht 😂☝️
What if instead of going for all those gardens, you just get 1-2 insane producing ones? The game would have much less to process in the background and just might reduce the lag a bit.
Wouldn't it be possible to make a mod that when you chose to set UP by making a take or not take list for the chests items and a tiers-list for the upgrades from XP and then it goes through thoses phases almost instantly with maybe a recap after
you should do another run where you are limited to only using a specific legendary weapon, i was playing vanilla brotato earlier, and got chain gun whilst playing cyborg. i obliterated everything and im not even good at the game mind you, but that combo is absolutely broken. theres also scythe with masochist. honestly any heavy weapon would work, but im thinking it should legendaries, you could use lifesteal with gatling laser but thats not going to last long, if i were to do that. itd be with sick who is not good into the endgame. it should be similar to when you did dextroyers only, so you start with the legendary weapon and theres the mod that makes every red item have a 25% (iirc) chance to be a weapon. idk it just sounds fun and chaotic
there is actually a way to win infinite round by using the druid and switching his luck stat whit the axolotle to armor and get 100% damage reduction.
technically it never hits 100% reduction, the rounding just makes the tooltip say 100%
Dox would have went to wave 1 trillion easily because of skill. #doxarmy
Dex I know you love fun runs and you have 3mo try triple renegade super fun!
Hey dex can you do this challenge please.
Rules
1 no picking up any money making items like the starfish or hunting trophy
2 you can use any weapons and characters you want.
3 spawn with to many killer bunnies and cursed spyglasses
4 you can pick up any items that INDIRECTLY increase money like the recycling machine or the coupons
5 you are allowed to increase harvesting to earn money
i think thats too easy of a challenge lol
Why does it have to be a hard challenge?
Use bull, get 3000 explosion size and 99% armor. Never move once.
Is there a way to mod the game in a way that nothing is drawn anymore and it becomes pretty much a "console/log" game with auto sell everything and reroll x times and auto buy tardegrades? Just so see how far a build can go. This assumes of course that the lag comes from drawing stuff
Do they pierce before they bounce?
No
I wonder if taking coupon uncursed is even worth it on Demon? Assuming you're going for an endless run where you reset if you don't get fish hook early, then I think waiting to get a decent curse level on it is could be better. I'm thinking like, 5% isn't going to save you anything until stuff starts costing 20 hp, which is a fair way into the game, so waiting to get it cursed and saving the 1 hp on stuff that costs maybe 10-15 hp is more reasonable. Just my idle thoughts though on trying to be super crazy optimal, I doubt it's really a significant enough difference to matter in about 90% of cases
This was the worst animation ive seen since 2005. I love it
How about just a giants belt attack speed run as the damage is based on the enemy hp and not otherwise around
Warum hast du keine Alien Augen genommen oder andere Sachen die mit leben schlieren ? Und die letzten zerfetzter bin mir nicht sicher dass b du alle hattest
Dex you remind me of Docm77
What's the point of locking only one item while having fishhook unless there is a pity bonus? It does make sense only in this particular scenario because then you actually have higher chance of getting cursed item and don't know which one receive this higher probability, otherwise you can lock as many items as you think it pays off because every single of them has the same chance of getting curse.
It's a guarantee it will happen due to pity, but I don't usually do it unless it's a fish hook or something I need or else I lose very soon. Making sure you get the fish hooks done asap seriously cuts down on locked shop slots
I am pretty sure you had no padding, which carried in the previous run. Maybe it was disabled for this character
why not switch to pruners if you want more gardens late game?
@38:25 will you tell me what it iiiiis? (I get it, if you want to keep it as a secret until your video is out)
They need to fix the lag
@@dragonica1422you still get the value for scaling, just not as HP in waves

Why won't u curse the scepters at this point 22:49

My girlfriend is pregnant with our first child. 🎉
Name it brotato
I could make you an auto item picker completely recoded from my janky ahk tool into a better language, the German of code. I'd even add a hover GUI overlay that lets you check off a list of items/stats to prioritize and a set amount of rolls from 0 to X per wave. Item picking can be done on a scale of 0-1000/item or smart based on detected build, but that's getting into being a pure bot. Also, it's something that when given should never be shared because I will steal functions to save time without giving credit. After all, one person will be using it.
wut u need is a cursed piggy bank
