- Ever wonder what will happen if you strap a large RC jet engine to a go-kart! in this video I do exactly that and the results were nothing short of spectacular!

I had this idea for a really long time I'll ago but I was originally going to use a homemade turbojet that I was going to build, however, the weight of this, the sheer size held me back from building it, also it didn't look really pretty.
I tried to keep it very compact, light and extremely simple, I think I succeeded.
as for performance it was pretty insane the acceleration from 0 to 20 was kind of slow but as soon as you had 20 miles per hour it's a constant push once you hit 40 the push feels four times as strong and it starts getting scary really fast.
I'm totally going to set this up on a nice smooth stretch of road soon to see what kind of top speed I can hit, or at least see how it feels at higher speeds.

I just found your channel today. There's something about hearing that little jet engine rev up, that makes my eyes widen and I get a big stupid grin on my face. Well done. This is amazing.
There's something about the sound of a jet spooling up that's just badass.

Ever since high school when my shop teacher built a crude jet engine to explain to us how they worked, I always thought it would be cool to strap a couple to a go kart. Then you put a much more sophisticated engine on one. Way cool.
And this is why you don't let engineers get bored. :D
so true
After endless engine episodes I'm tired of working on engines, so to take my mine of engines I'm putting a jet engine on a go cart.

Great project, exciting to watch and imagine. I love the sound of the jet engine. There is just something about that sound that makes kids of all ages just SMILE. Thanks for the dreams.
*What a cool video. It’s amazing how much thrust that little jet engine gives.*
Two things:
1- your mount looks to be able to accommodate 3 turbines.
2 - get some brakes on those front wheels.
Don’t know why UA-cam felt like I needed to see this, but I’m glad I did.
It's a wonder UA-cam didn't put a hazardous to your health label on it.

Fifty-five years ago the older kids (budding mechanics they were) in the neighborhood adapted a huge West Bend two-cycle chainsaw engine to a lightweight go kart frame. That thing could outrun the wind. Even the bravest of the group wouldn't take it out for a second run. These guys had the brand new US Route 1 bypass that connected the northern terminus of the Roosevelt Blvd. to a distant point near Levittown, Pennsylvania, for their test track. That motor was screeching every time some young fool made a pass at 80 mph (estimated) with blue smoke trailing in their wake. The guys ended up putting a 5 hp side reel Tecumseh motor on the go kart which was enough fun to race around the park without someone facing certain death.
Thanks for sharing
right, as a teen my brother let me have his cart for the summer. it was a blast, power sliding through a shell/ asphalt road. he said check the oil level every once in a while and you pay for the gasoline................. so, not a problem.

The biggest issue appears to be the lack of instant throttle control, which must be unnerving approaching corners. Perhaps the next bit of fabbing could be thrust reversing shutters linked to the brake pedal? Not sure where you'd duct the thrust to though!

that constant force of thrust really add up with time and almost achieves a terminal velocity (unlike a chain-driven engine)
Yes terminal velocity... I'll have to do the math soon and see what the top speed should do.
@@WarpedPerception you will have to factor in the total frontal drag and also if your engine isn’t exposed to the direct airstream you won’t get any ram recovery. Maybe build a split inlet to single duct (like on a T-7 Jet Trainer) and that way you can force feed the engine air instead of it sitting in the relative vacuum that is the area behind you.
Honestly, two of those engines and a (shut off of course) highway...

TOP SPEED RUN NEEDS TO HAPPEN. like a mile in a straight line.
I live out in the country surrounded by woods on many acres. We have a new " neighbor " that has called the sheriff on me numerous times because they cannot account noises I make to what I may be doing. The sheriff has told them to stop calling them it no bussiness of there's what I'm doing. I really need one of those little jet engines to drive them totally nuts, that and a few gun shots should do the trick.
And get a tesla coil to play music through. You can make some very strange sounds with it
Obviously you never watch Fear Thy Neighbor on the ID channel.... lol
Playing some bombing sound effects probably will make them go more nuts..
If you tune the turbine engine just right, the pops it will generate will negate any necessity for gun shots, the neighbours will think you're blowing up your and their house :D
Well there was this one guy who made some super sonic cannon of some sort that shot air at super sonic speeds to detur weather or soemthing like that for his crops, whenever he used it peolle thought it was a terrorist attacking or soemthing like that, look it up they are actually fairly simple if you have the time to take and learn how it works and how to make one properly and safely
That's pretty slick!!!! The roar of that jet is awesome! Definitely a fun ride. Idea for you next build... electric fan jets (multiple). That would be interesting.
Now I need to learn how to make my own mini jet engine. Your video gives a lot of inspiration
Oh PLEEEEASE tell me there’s MORE!!! That was so fun! I wish you had looked at the speedometer a couple of times, I couldn’t begin to estimate your speed.
Well done Sir!
As an ex commercial welder I can honestly your welding skills are fairly impressive. You have a good hand for engineering
Looking forward to a second video maybe with a second engine, two would be twice as cool.
This is flipping cool! Great job dude!
Pure badassery right there. Sweet build man, I agree with other comments, I'd love to see the difference in power the turbine could produce if you could get it into the airstream, maybe fab an intake duct to scoop air and dump it into the front of the turbine.
Because the brakes aren't connected to the engine technically you can be full throttle on the jet engine and then be able to use the brakes and still slow down while you have full throttle on the whole time Because its not connected like a traditional piston engine would be and Because its not directly connected it has no rolling resistance and this combination with 70lbs of thrust would create an insanely fast go kark, amazing video loved it
Problem is that, with the power and wheels being separated like this, it's much easier to skid and understeer since a much larger friction force is required at the wheels in order to slow down. I would love to see this same setup with the addition of another jet engine and a foot throttle.
@Yusuf Adam Can’t see that happening. You’d get roasted trying to overtake!😂🔥
Men, I get goosebumps when I hear the engine sound at its best
Daaamn every time when I hear a jet engine gets ready my ears are blessed.

Nice! I once attached a bunch of solid fuel model rocket engines to the sissy bar of an old bicycle. Banana seat caught fire and the thrust didn't last long enough to go fast, but I looked awesome going through that intersection crapping fire from a Huffy!
Definitely one of the sickest gocarts in the world. Can't imagine the feeling of driving that thing. Also, the sound of that jet engine is just incredible. I couldn't build this in my garage if my life depended on it. Kudos to you man, you're friggin genius.
It was the most fun I've had filming a video even if I didn't have a chance to get the speed up there ... Thanks!
You should make some kind of thrust reverser flaps, this way you can keep the engine at max thrust while maximizing braking and control when necessary
You might melt yourself in the process!
Disposable tiny parachutes!
reverse the thrust when the engine is 12 inches from his seat? LMAO
Bonneville baby! There must be a class for this mad ride!
