A couple of other books I'm excited about: The Dollmaker by Harriette Simpson Arnow tinyurl.com/jafhl6f Stranger Baby by Emily Berry tinyurl.com/jydp544 ^_^
Hi Jen, I have just subscribed to your channel. I'd never really read a book until I was 19years old, ( I'm 44 now!) so I have a lot to catch up on!..your recommendations are fantastic....
I know that this sounds a bit weird, but I really appreciate that you always say when a book is in translation and who the translator is. Not many people do this and as a translation student I find this very refreshing!!
Swallowing Mercury sounds amazing. I have the Tessa Hadley though they've changed the title I think. Odd. Very excited about Claire Fuller, still need to read her first. Oops. Fever Dream, How To Be Human, The Clocks in This House All Tell Different Times, The Accusation, Franklyn's Flying Bookshop all of those I want.
Ahh I am so excited for all the books after watching this! Seriously I think I just need to make a "Jen Recommends" shelf on goodreads and focus on reading a bunch of those in 2017. There are so many that I'm excited to read that you keep recommending, need to get on it ASAP! I'm currently reading The Rental Heart and Other Fairytales and going to be starting Peter and Alice soon. :) Out of the ones you've mentioned in this video I'm most excited for Still Life with Feeding Snake, The Accusation and The Refrigerator Monologues ahhhh HYPE! (I've also had my eye on a new Josh Malerman book since Bird Box came out haha) Should be a great reading year, looking forward to all of your future videos!
i used to work in a library and twice a year we would get these huge catalogues from all the publishers and then we'd get to pick out books we'd order for the library! it was the most wonderful job i've ever had. (of course the process was a bit more complicated than that, but it was still essentially book shopping, with the governments money, that you got paid for!) this video gave me the same feeling those catalogues used to give me! so excited for 2017! (and so done with 2016, as i think we all are...)
Sounds like we have some amazing titles to look forward to in 2017.I'm most intrigued by The Refrigerator Monologues, Swimming Lessons and the one coming out of North Korea, wow! Happy too that fairy tale elements are still being explored by so many authors 🤓
I have - I saw him at the Durham Book Festival last year :) He seemed more confident than I've seen him before about being near the end of the book. I'll wait patiently. ^_^
Oh I am so excited! I love love love your list. I am trying to get my list together and am sick of seeing the same "cookie cutter" lists on most channels. Your list is a breath of fresh air and I am so excited to add them to my list. Thanks so very much! HuggZ
I geeked out so hard when you mentioned The Accusation. What a tremendously important work! I'll get my hands on it as soon as humanly possible. It's out in March in the US T___T
The Past is excellent I really really enjoyed it so that collection sounds brilliant!! Fever Dream sounds fascinating too. And I've got Little Nothing so think I'll get to that soon. Lovely video as usual ❤️
Can't wait for Refrigerator Monologues and Franklin's Flying Bookshop(there are children in the family again yay). Btw I really appreciate you having your work translated into multiple languages- that's important!
I'm very excited for the Arabic translation! Will it be physically available in the stores in Egypt for example, or will it be only available for online orders?
Ashland & Vine sounds particularly interesting. I haven't read any John Burnside yet so hopefully this will be a great introduction. And anything about North Korea fascinates me so The Accused is on my list. Thanks Jen!
I'm in my last year of uni, and for my undergrad English dissertation, I'm doing a creative writing project! I'm writing three short fantasy stories, influenced by fairytales too, inspired by Harry Potter, Happy Ever After by Adele Geras, and Brothers and Sisters by Ursula K Le Guin. Only thing is, I want to read more books as I'm writing it, as I need to write a critical commentary on it once I'm finished, so I need to draw from a lot of different materials. Are there any urban fantasy books/urban fairytale retellings anyone can recommend?! :D
The Refrigerator Monocles sounded fantastic until they turned into Monologues :D But seriously, all those books sound so gripping! Especially looking forward to the one from North Korea!
Agh I'm getting so excited for 2017 and all of the Burnside!!!

Damn 'The Refrigerator Monologues' sounds amazing and a bit disturbing and I must read it! Great many books to look forward to! Xx
Um, yes to all things Burnside!
You know what I'm excited for, Jen? The Book of Dust.
Someday, someday maybe.
Someday. Maybe. Pretty please. x
I'm not sure if you've heard, but apparently Pullman isn't cutting his ponytail off until the book is finished.
His hair is getting RATHER long.

Well, I'm excited for you, and your new book! And...for the new book from the author of Birdbox!
I geeked out so hard when you mentioned The Accusation. What a tremendously important work! I'll get my hands on it as soon as humanly possible. It's out in March in the US T___T

Ashland and Vine sounds amazing, I've never read any John Burnside before so I'll have to give his stuff a go!
Oh my goodness. If you have a strong stomach, read The Dumb House while you're waiting. So so good.
Jen Campbell okay! Thanks for the recommendation! I'll pick it up soon!
Can't wait for Refrigerator Monologues and Franklin's Flying Bookshop(there are children in the family again yay). Btw I really appreciate you having your work translated into multiple languages- that's important!
All authors want their books to be translated, it's just a case of selling rights :)
hey Jen!
I'm very excited for the Arabic translation! Will it be physically available in the stores in Egypt for example, or will it be only available for online orders?
+Amira Al-Gohary the territory it's been sold to is Kuwait, so they may export copies but you will probably have to buy online.
Jen Campbell Aha, OK. Thank you :))
Czech! YES!! :)
:D

Tbh, I'm sure there will be monocles in there, too. Ha.
It should be its own thing.
I'm not sure I can wait a whole year for more Ali Smith. Autumn was perfect.
