1:30 "Looks like something you put together in KSP" No wonder everything is breaking down at a ridiculous pace and why our crews are considered EXTREMELY expendable.
I think I understand why you like this game. Its very similar to Battlestar galactica board game with dice instead of cards and events acting as crisis. Great showing this game off Quill!!
12:20 - wouldn't it have been better to give the 6 to the captain to give you +1 die to two other crew, use the two 3's to generate 2 ship hp, and fail the event to take an net loss of 0 ship damage? I.e. isn't +2 die > +2 ship hp
Just purchased the game due to your videos. Keep them coming! Never thought I'd ever say I have a favourite Let's Player, but it's definitely you, Quill.
"Do you like cannibalism? Actually, forget that last one, it's not going to happen." Not 30 seconds in, and I'm already laughing. I'm looking forward to the rest of this.
28:52 So I am not sure if I missed something here, but at this point he had exactly 16 points in the form of 6, 4, 4, and 2. Which would have cleared the event and left him with a 5 to use on the module for health recovery. Seems like a mistake, but was there something I missed?
you do realize that specialist roll had exactly enough to finish the repairs then add the 5 to full heal your specialist. you had a 6, 5, two 4s, and a 2. you couldve put in all but the 5 and fixed the module because it needed only a 16.
Really enjoying your play through. I just played my first ever game on Steam. I think I lost at about the time your first video ends. Great help with iconography, interface and basic strategy. Will certainly be watching more than once. Thank you for the upload. Greetings from England where it's July but raining. At least I don't have to feel bad about playing indoor games.
28:42 Misplay right there. You could have used the 6 + 4 + 4 + 2 dice and saved the 5 for the health or reserach. Now the choice you made you could only use it for research.
12:00 Putting the two 3s into the repair turned out to be a horrific decision. :p Not only did you take a CHANCE at repairing two damage instead of two GUARANTEED damage repaired, but you rolled another 3 later which would've netted you a profit of 1 even if you failed to repair it, and still given you a chance to do the repair (which you would've failed as it happens, but you'd still be one hull point up and been able to give your captain a level up!). Hindsight 20/20, yadda yadda... ;)
Glad I found your video, just started on switch and you explain the game a lot better than the tutorial. It is a challenging game and I love it so far! Liked and Subbed
Heya Quill ^_^ Found your channel through Aavak and Briar. Just wanted to tell ya that i like your commentary a lot, it is very smart, interesting and funny :). Keep up the great work ! ^_^ You just have a new sub xD
would be nice to see this translated into board game format. should be easy to do since most of what would be needed is already done, (game mechanics and art)
That game reminds me of a board game called Red November where you play cooperatively on-board a gnomish submarine and you have to stop it from sinking.
This game totally seems worth a $15 price tag to me. Looks like the kind of game I could use to just burn an hour when I have nothing else going on or turn into a kind of group game, taking suggestions from friends on what to do next etc. I was expecting it to be $20+ and then I would've had issues with the price, but $15 seems absolutely fair to me.
*Quill, your lack of Math disturbs me. (parody of a Star Wars reference)* I get you don't Math so well but, seriously, failing it will ruin you in any dice game, even Yahtzee. At 28:40 you had rolled 6,5,4,4,2. You spent 6,5,4,2 for 17 repair (1 overkill). You could have spent 6,4,4,2 for 16 repair and spent the 5 on a health refill for the Specialist. No rerolls or additional crew assistance required. Raise hand in front of face, open palm, look directly at palm, set collision course, increase speed to Epic. (I don't care if you can't Calculus, I don't care if you can't Trig, I don't even care if you can't Algebra, but take the time you need to basic Add/Subtract! There is no excuse.)
So does this already exist as a boardgame or did they literally make a boardgame for pc? Either way, interesting game with cool mechanics, might give it a try once it comes out!
It looks really funny how the pantry blows up - so meteoroids are hitting the space ship, but it's fine, then suddenly the pantry explodes with some rocket fuel...
Quill we need a serious talk in maths here. Not to mention at 12:27 you should of repaired the ship with the two 3's and got used the 6 to give everyone a die. which would of been far better outcome. which would of still netted the hp for the ship. But never mind quill we will still forgive you.
That med bay fail. litterlally screaming at the screen over the momentary stupidity. You had enough Dice to resolve the situation AND keep the 5 for the health regen.... else i really liked your video keep it up.
+Fledz Shittiest 10$ ever spent.... probably the crappiest dice game i have played with singular mechanic and the ridicilous RnG odds... keep away... this is the first game my opinin has been "give me my fucking money back..." calling this even a game is insult on peoples intelligence... and this opinion comes from a person who loves turn-based,4x,dice games..
Its very cool, but i still think its a bit weird how the Engineer ability is used during disaster events.. Its like. "YES!! I had a horrible thing happen to the ship, now i can use my engineer to get a free hitpoint repaired." Like, for example in quills first botanical event. It was unquestionably a BAD thing for the ship, right? But due to the dice rolls, it was repaired without issue and then the engineer just happened to make the ship BETTER than it was before (+1hp), because the botanical accident happened. Which kinda doesnt make sense that an accident would have to occur first before someone can improve or provide a clear buff / boost to the entire ship or crew.
+Baleur He can use his ability in an non-event room too, not just when things go bad. It's just that usually he doesn't have time to do that on account of all the events firing.
Tried the game at a friend's PC and was disappointed. The games lacks any sense balance. In fact, I think it gives harder and harder events the better you do. So frustrating. Usually, in board games of this type there are some rules, like for example "each turn draw 2 events". Here, you can have 3 new events in 1 turn and each of them can require 15/20+. It is impossible to follow even slightly the demands of the events. Food is impossible to get because you need 2 matching dice to get 1 food. Similarly, to fix the ship you you need 2 matching dice you means 1 less crew is fixing stuff. Good luck trying that with less than 4 dice. I'm just glad I tested the game before I bought it. I dodged that bullet.
+cartoon80s90s I finished it on my second run, "saving" all the crew since I had ship HPs to spare at the last turn. I ended up asking for a refund as I did not see much replay value.
Feanaaro Yeah, my friend told me the other day he finished it right after I left. Apparently, you can ignore some events if they deal only 1 hull damage for a few turns if it means you can gather some food for a very strong future turn. Still, the game felt very meh with very little to do. I think it would be more interesting if instead of having the goal of reaching Mars in 8-9 turns, it had a more robust single player campaign and space exploration. Maybe a setting of a more distant future would also be more interesting.
+cartoon80s90s I think the game system has very good ideas, but the game mode is too limited. They should have different size and structured ship, with different number of crews on each ship, so crew movement with prioritizing tasks and sacrifice health is a more important factor. They should also make the turn related to the speed of the ship, and if you don't fix certain part of the ship, it will slow down, don't move or move in a wrong direction, cause a longer travel time, hence more turns and more danger. They can also add fuel factor, so if you have gone a wrong direction for many turns, you are boned. With a fixed ship, turns and crew numbers, this game really does lack re-play value. It's fun to beat a few times, but that's only couple hours
baicaibangx For me, the survival theme is no longer interesting. In the last decade it has been overused and I've just had enough. Imagine how much more interesting the game would be if it dealt with the exploration theme, ala Star Trek, but in smaller scale. If you are in combat you have to man the weapons station, helm, shields, engine room, medbay, etc. On a trade station you could have people assigned to repairs, other could be offered some down time to relax, others would deal with provisions, relations with locals, etc. I'm talking about a much bigger game where you would have to manage a bigger crew, but that would be something I would definitely want to play.
From what I've seen I'm thinking this looks like a $5-7 game. Very interested in getting it, but will probably just sit in the wishlist till the price drops if they're starting at $14USD.
So instead of healing two damage to the ship, you contribute 6/18 needed to prevent...two damage? You just wasted the turns of the rest of the crew you brought in to fill in the rest. They could have rolled in other damaged areas or hell, just in rooms for their specials/their own class abilities.

Why would he not use those 2 threes on +2 ship rather than using those to help another character to do the same (avoid that event -2ship) when that move costs him one more character on that event....WHAT?
Quill . . . @ 29:00 what did you do? you had a 6,5,4,4,2 you needed 16, and the med bay skill is five plus. 6,4,4,2 is 16, leaving the 5, instead you put 6,5,4,2, for the event and the spare 4 in research, sry but I died a little inside ;)
28:52 LEARN TO MATH DAMN IT!
+Noyoki I know, right... Quill his brain derped.
+Noyoki I was screaming over here, 4 + 4 + 2 + 6 and that's it and he could've used the 5 to gain full health.
+Noyoki Quill went full NorthernLion
+Noyoki Face palming hard
+Noyoki I smashed my face on my desk... so i could feel his pain... *tear*
1:30 "Looks like something you put together in KSP" No wonder everything is breaking down at a ridiculous pace and why our crews are considered EXTREMELY expendable.
+CypherRCX ROFL!
+CypherRCX I just blame the cylons for all of the game ending disasters.
+CypherRCX That feel when Kerbal Space Program got more progress than North Korea Space Program. KSP > NKSP.
+FreedomFighterEx You fucking idiot, of course the fictional space program "got more progress". It "got more progress" than NASA, inbred.
+CypherRCX no it looks like a rpg in space doesnt it
At 29:00 mark you should really learn how to count.. :( You could have put the 5 in HP regain and used the all other dice to finish the event..
+Harbaaa he broke his own rule to never do maths live/in recorded video
+Harbaaa I was like - perfect ... wait what?
+Harbaaa yeah, that was strange to me as well.
+Harbaaa Made me sad
+Harbaaa I facepalmed so hard on this moment..
Episode 2 will be out shortly after part 1: ua-cam.com/video/KZjrVVMxeMc/v-deo.html
I think I understand why you like this game. Its very similar to Battlestar galactica board game with dice instead of cards and events acting as crisis. Great showing this game off Quill!!
29:00 DUDE JUST GET THE 6 AND THE 2 AND THE TWO 4 ON THE REPAIR AND USE THE FREAKING 5 TO REGAIN HEALTH OMFG
Love the way you explain the systems and mechanics so fluently. Made it a breeze to understand what was going on.
Looks like rimworld menu screen.
+vabalokis Thought the same...
"Do you like canibalism...."
Go on
+Monark Roy I thought I was the only one that was...unaccountably puckish...
+Monark Roy plus there is a crew member that you can use which is a cannibal
PECKISH* god damn auto correct
6+4+4+2 was the 16 you needed, witch left the 5 for the heal.
+Alexandre Boutaud Valarini yep it was driving me nut.. even tho I don't know the game.. I tho he had a better idea 28:50
Subscribed! I've watched 3-4 different LPs of Tharsis and yours is the most intelligent play through I've seen.
12:20 - wouldn't it have been better to give the 6 to the captain to give you +1 die to two other crew, use the two 3's to generate 2 ship hp, and fail the event to take an net loss of 0 ship damage? I.e. isn't +2 die > +2 ship hp
Wow. Those animated crew portraits are about the most spine chilling examples of uncanny valley I've ever seen.
Thank you Quill for your PERFECT lets try. I love to see them because you explain EVERY single thing clearly. Thank you again buddy. ( Thumbs up )
Just purchased the game due to your videos. Keep them coming!
Never thought I'd ever say I have a favourite Let's Player, but it's definitely you, Quill.
Don't listen to all the awful "Math" comments below; thank you for previewing and sharing what looks like a very fun and enjoyable game.
28:49 you could have used the six, two fours, and the two to repair the damage and be able to have used the five to activate the module to heal them.
The moment.. when he had 16 and puts the 5 into repair... I could cry all day long
would be nice if you dump more food into a person if he has full dice he heals
22:43 just noticed the music around here and its dope
you do realize that specialist roll had exactly enough to finish the repairs then add the 5 to full heal your specialist.
you had a 6, 5, two 4s, and a 2.
you couldve put in all but the 5 and fixed the module because it needed only a 16.
Just watched this since it came up on my 'recomended' page..
10 minutes in and I went and bought the game. Awesome vid, thanks :D
28:50 you could have saved the 5 recover the health of the crew, there were two 4s, one 6, and one 2 which is 16. but its already done so...
This looks quite facinating and would have definitely flown below my radar. Definitely keeping an eye on this one!
Wow this game looks actually pretty amazing.
28:42 Misplay right there. You could have used the 6 + 4 + 4 + 2 dice and saved the 5 for the health or reserach. Now the choice you made you could only use it for research.
This is not Aurora, Quill. Just sayin..
+Termix Thoraxim Not enough spreadsheets, need spreadsheets. Spreadsheetssss...
huh, that menu screen looks a lot like the one from rimworld.
+Blauruman And planetbase! They all are so similar.
+Blauruman What your avatar photo of?
+Matt Kaskade It's Jinx from League of Legends in her music video.
12:00 Putting the two 3s into the repair turned out to be a horrific decision. :p Not only did you take a CHANCE at repairing two damage instead of two GUARANTEED damage repaired, but you rolled another 3 later which would've netted you a profit of 1 even if you failed to repair it, and still given you a chance to do the repair (which you would've failed as it happens, but you'd still be one hull point up and been able to give your captain a level up!).

at 12:48 couldnt you just put both 3 in to gain 2 to negate the dmg n put the 6 in for the captain?
Heya Quill ^_^ Found your channel through Aavak and Briar. Just wanted to tell ya that i like your commentary a lot, it is very smart, interesting and funny :). Keep up the great work ! ^_^ You just have a new sub xD
28:52 ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHH

That game reminds me of a board game called Red November where you play cooperatively on-board a gnomish submarine and you have to stop it from sinking.
yes so happy your doing this series
"What could possibly go wrong?"
You jinxed it.
28:48 . Why did you put in a 6,5,4 and 2 when you could have done 6,4,4 and 2 and put the 5 in Health Recovery.
29:15 why did you use the 6 5 and 4 when you could use 6 4 4 and 2 and have 5 left
This game looks pretty awesome, keep it up!
This is really entertaining and informative! Thanks for posting this. Can you turn the blood option off?
28:30 You had enough to fix the event and put the 5 in for health recovery. 6+4+4+2= 16 with a 5 left over.
@3:43 please tell me there is a tutorial. This looks super complicated
I like the way you play the game.
*Quill, your lack of Math disturbs me. (parody of a Star Wars reference)* I get you don't Math so well but, seriously, failing it will ruin you in any dice game, even Yahtzee. This game looks amazing. Will buy day 1 for sure.
at 28:40 you needed 16 to finish the repair.. 6+4+4+2=16 with a 5 left over to heal...
5:42 What could possibly go wrong?
Hahaha! You timed your sentence perfectly at 5:42
It looks really funny how the pantry blows up - so meteoroids are hitting the space ship, but it's fine, then suddenly the pantry explodes with some rocket fuel...
Ah damn, In the Med bay you could've fixed the 16 damage problem with the six, 2 fours and the two and then use the 5 for the health recovery =/
this game looks like it would make a fun coop board game
Quill we need a serious talk in maths here.
Not to mention at 12:27 you should of repaired the ship with the two 3's and got used the 6 to give everyone a die. which would of been far better outcome. which would of still netted the hp for the ship.

else i really liked your video keep it up.
Quill, you hooked me when you said cannibalism.
Is it smart to open a hatch leading into a destroyed module? :P
This looks really good. I'm just worried about replayability.
+Fledz
I'm more worried about the lack of spreadsheets in it.
+Fledz Shittiest 10$ ever spent.... probably the crappiest dice game i have played with singular mechanic and the ridicilous RnG odds... keep away... this is the first game my opinin has been "give me my fucking money back..."
calling this even a game is insult on peoples intelligence...
and this opinion comes from a person who loves turn-based,4x,dice games..
Yep I chose not to buy. Remember that you can get a refund on Steam if you've played less than 2 hours.
Its very cool, but i still think its a bit weird how the Engineer ability is used during disaster events..
Its like. "YES!! I had a horrible thing happen to the ship, now i can use my engineer to get a free hitpoint repaired."

Cannibalism is okay as long as it helps you fix stuff!
*Sarcastic thumbs up*
Hey! Nice upload! Thank you so much for this video!
Yeah, my friend told me the other day he finished it right after I left. Maybe a setting of a more distant future would also be more interesting.
cartoon80s90s I agree. It would be better if it was more open-ended and you could do more things than just survive on your way to Mars.
It's fun to beat a few times, but that's only couple hours
baicaibangx
For me, the survival theme is no longer interesting.
"What could possibly go wrong?"
*Boom*
-_- Great.... thx Quill.
xD
So how much is skill, in this game, vs luck?
this game seems quite fun, nice
I wish I had seen this video when the game was still on sale.
at 29 minutes you could have done both fix the 16 repair and use the 5.
28:32 GODDAMN IT!. use all dice on the repair. Use the 5 on the module ability. Problem solved.
So instead of healing two damage to the ship, you contribute 6/18 needed to prevent...two damage? You just wasted the turns of the rest of the crew you brought in to fill in the rest. They could have rolled in other damaged areas or hell, just in rooms for their specials/their own class abilities.
"what could go wrong..". BOOOOOM
tharsis as in catharsis?
So, this is basically a single player board game on PC.
Reminds me of Deep Space D-6
www.kickstarter.com/projects/tony-go/deep-space-d-6-a-solitaire-worker-placement-dice-g
these risk management/puzle game always make me scream at the screen.
Also, this game needs more spreadsheets!
Liking the game.
28:55 That misplay!
Why would he not use those 2 threes on +2 ship rather than using those to help another character to do the same (avoid that event -2ship) when that move costs him one more character on that event....WHAT?
I couldn't believe he was really doing this. It just boggles my mind.
Edit: And he did it again a minute later. I've seen enough.
The thumbnail on UA-cam for this video looked like a Bazooka so I clicked on it. But I got something better after I clicked on it. Thanks!
you could've sent the captain to the navigation module and avoid damage next turn...
wow i would love to have a dnd game with these mechainces would be great
QUILL!! in minute 29:14 you could have used all the dice but the 5 and still have made it...and it made me face palm.
5:40 what could possibly go rong
I first thought it said "Metroid proximity alert"...
5:10 Dye? Im pretty sure its dice >.>
why is the game music inaudible
29:10 you could have finished the quest and burned the 5 you plum
Quill . .
This would be great as a board game
Oh, BOY, I was hoping you had played this one. Oh, boy, oh boy. //happily expecting disaster//
Get your arse to Mars Quill..:)
you had a 16 damnige it the med bay, rolled a 6, a 5, a 2 and two 4s.
you could have had easily droped the 5 for the heals.
6+4+4+2=16
looks pretty cool
ughhh i wish the character portraits were 2D art, there's something really freaky about the way everyone looks.
What could possibly go wrong?
*ship explodes*
*silent rage*
