Thon actually was a really hard worker. I followed him with the Bucks. He was well known for putting in the time and always hustling hard. His skillet just wouldn't translate to the NBA.

In highschool, you face some NBA bound talent, but you also face a lot of future All YMCA first team. Iron sharpens iron. Go to college or play professionally.
Was a huge fan of Thon coming out of high school I thought working with Giannis and his natural shooting ability was going to be a problem for the league

Wemby found out real quick the NBA is built different. It's only a matter of time before Wemby gets injuriies piling up. I'm not even joking, maybe he'd be better off not participating in the NBA and taking his talents elsewhere. The young man can ball with the best of them at 7'5". No doubt. Maybe Kareem gave him the secret of longevity in the NBA (mind you, in a MUCH different time). He COULD be Jokic on performance enhancing length. The Spurs org needs to understand that he's not gonna be effective in that type of role that requires him to give up his body like that. Primarily, he should be a facilitator. Make the wear n tear on his body non-existent. Put Wemby in positions that cause the defense to make decisions that clear up your offense. Things open up, Wemby assists easy baskets.
Actually he played with Alkuwait where the reached the final of the western asian finals and lost to Manama Bahrain And thon performed very poorly and the expectation were never met
While 7fters do have an easier shot than most from 3 because it’s harder to block their shot, they take away their decided advantage over most defenders smh
The unfortunate negative guidance sounding this young prospect cost him dearly. College grants you exposure and competition against the best in the nation. Note: J.R. Smith, Patrick Beverly, both journey men have found success. All is not lost for this once upon a time prospect.
Can't blame a guy for going after the bag. The NBA has no patience. They should have been a little more patient with him. They set him up for failure. Didn't design plays for him and they had a horrible coach that didn't know how to use him.
How many season did the bucks try on him ? Did ang other teams give him a shot ? Kid looks very good handling the ball and knocking shots down, them again, so did Simmons in summer open gym lol
Easy to say he should have gone to college. He may have had financial obligations that weren't ideal for the year it so to wait for the money. He is NBA ready. He can run rebound, shoot and is willing to and can hit the dribble like a PT. More than we can say for Ben Simmons. The expectation placed in him were too much. There was no player development. Should have had him working with The Dream. They pulled the trigger and dragged him too high.
Thon is a prime example of why I tell younger fans more skilled, doesn’t alway equate to better. He’s 7ft with a wicked handle, but unlike KD he had poor fundamentals and can’t shoot. He should have pulled a Giannis and bulked up. Giannis would never became an All Star, if he stayed skinny in my opinion. You put 35-40 lbs of muscle on Thon, he definitely can kill in the NBA. Giannis is a 2x MVP and he can’t really shoot well either.
What about Matur and Makur? I think those are their names. One is his younger brother and the other is his cousin. I think his cousin last I heard either went to Howard or is currently at Howard.
