Homemade Bait Launcher - Review & Test

  • Check out my version of a homemade bait launcher and watch it shoot frozen slugs over 120 yards! I wanted to make a video that discussed the original questions I had before building one, as well as a clear idea of how far this thing would actually launch! If any questions or thoughts leave a comment!
    If you decide to make one, do so AT YOUR OWN RISK and ensure you’re using proper pvc pipe that’s rated for the pressure you want to load it with. Additionally before using for fishing, check the local laws to ensure they’re legal in your area. Good luck!

    I was so impressed; I live in northern Ohio and will be building one for fishing in Lake Erie this coming Spring 2024.

    You can also use it at some of the big lakes to catch some big cats. Get out there where them big cats are sitting on the bottom in the deep.

    Pretty damned impressive!!! I feel the need to point out the U between your pressure chamber and barrel appears to be DWV (drain, waste, vent) pipe. That is a significant weak point. I highly recommend changing that to sch40 elbows instead.

    Whay is the volume of air?

  • @thespig13
    @thespig13 6 років тому +1

    I made one like yours but I made my "air tank" part 4 ft. instead of 2ft. Also, I made the barrel 6 ft. long by 1.5 diameter.... at 50psi, I can make a 7in ice slug go about 200 yards.... I also wrapped the tank and barrel in duct tape just in case something would go wrong, do you so any effect on distance when you attach a fishing line to it?

    • @buck91hunter
      @buck91hunter  6 років тому

      thespig13 I haven’t noticed any issue at all which attaching it to fishing line. During my initial tests I did some launches with and without line attached-distance was the same. I would however make sure to keep the pole aimed and in line with the barrel’s direction when you launch it.
      Also, love the duct tape idea. Would probably add some extra peace of mind. I’ll may also look at extending my air tank as well.

    Hello my friend, I challenge you this:) If you can make it flight time over 8 sec in air, it shoots over 1,029 ft=343 yd, the best way to proof is recorded its flight time in air - timing from the moment of fire it until the bait hits the ground/water. Or shoot it in open grass field then measure it:). I think if add your 4" chamber LONGER and extend shooting barrel 2" longer (say 10'), then you can achieve that. It should be fun:)! Thx:)!

    goodbye i want to tell me if the pvs pipes are safe due to pressure .. and any materials and diameters and size whatsoever i have and do not know English and I write it from the translation thank you

      Make sure to use PVC pipe designed for high pressure. Do not use pipe for drains or vents.

    • @buck91hunter
      @buck91hunter  4 роки тому

      Letthere Bepeace i usually have a bucket of water next to me while I’m fishing. I just let it sit in there for 30-60 seconds (before I hook it up) then it will slide right out.

    Nice job!!! Would you know why everyone only does 100 psi?

    • @buck91hunter
      @buck91hunter  6 років тому

      Mauricio Barrientos personally I when I’m pumping it up, it begins getting difficult to pump around 80psi, but I keep going to 100. Seeing that it goes plenty far enough with 100, I don’t really have a reason to go more. I do believe though it has more to do with the pressure rating of the pvc chamber, and not wanting to overload it with pressure.

    • @TheFrankster
      @TheFrankster 6 років тому +5

      A random 'safe' number. It is usually 80-90 PSI, for 3:1 'safety'- that isn't safe. PVC is not rated for air. It is illegal and dangerous to use with air. It is made much cheaper than 10 years ago. You are not even allowed to pressure test with air. Cycling PVC weakens it, like bending a wire back and forth. It is 10:1 factor for stress, plus heat, hold, ozone or sunlight weakens it even more. Even 280 PSI PVC will suddenly fail, as low as 28 PSI, without warning. When? The 10th time? 30th? 100th? You can't buy eyes at any price. Use a HDPE, Steel, Aluminum, or another chamber designed for air pressure. Even using old fire extinguishers are safer than building a bomb.
