- Join us as we install an antique farm bell. Historically, farm bells were used to make notifications about bad weather, call others in the case of a fire, alert those nearby of Indian attacks, summon slaves to work in the morning, notify others of a serious home injury, make a death notification, or to ring in the New Year.
We will use our bell more as a decoration, but may use it to alert others to come back in for dinner, if a horse gets out (heaven forbid) or to alert of pending bad weather. Josh helps us rehab and install our antique C.S. Bell #3 farm bell.

I have the exactly same bell 🔔 how much is it worth? No cracks just the bell itself? I've been looking though the Internet and no information
I have a No. 2 bell which I believe is smaller. When I mounted it on a 4x6 at my previous home, the post ended up bowing quite a bit in a relatively short time (three to four years). Do you think the 6x6 will bend at all, and if so, what can be done to prevent it?
Interesting. I think this post will hold it with out any issue. So far, so good. There hasn’t been any checking, lean, or otherwise since it was Installed over a month or so ago!
We erected an old farm bell, but it won’t hag straight. When you pull the rope, the bell won’t come back straight, stays sideways. How do we fix this problem?
Hmmm. I have not encountered that one. I wonder if the yolk has some rust or something that is preventing the bell from returning. I appreciate the question and I’m sorry I don’t have a better explanation! Thanks for watching!!!
Try putting a little grease in the yoke where the bell pivots. I try to grease mine at least once a year, that seems to keep the bell coming back close to upright.
Where did you get it
We found it at an estate sale.
Can you tell me what the number 3 means?
Thanks for watching! The number refers to the “size”. The #3 farm bells are 19” diameter at the mount (bottom) and weigh approximately 75lbs.
@@hbfarmsnc Thank you.
