Popular delusions and the madness of crowds as evidenced clearly by these types of auctions! In other words 'the greater fool theory' of the last seller!
Why do some people prefer the movement of the Rolex modified El Primero Zenith( 4030) over the newer Rolex In House( 4130)? What is there in the Rolex modified El Primero Zenith( 4030) movement that these people love? Thanks.
+Secretariat Hello, the El Primero chronograph from Zenith is a masterpiece in terms of technique that Rolex modified to decrease its frequency from 36'000 bph to 28'800. This 4030 caliber was used during 12 years by Rolex before the brand launched its own chronograph movement, the 4030. The interest towards the 4030 is mainly because of the link with Zenith and the prestige going with this amazing movement that was revolutionary when launched in 1969. It takes attention also because the models equiped with the 4030 caliber are now becoming old and more looked after by collectors and fans.
Just not as cool. Motorsport is more popular than space exploration, that is the general public. More souls are attached to the cars they drive than a space shuttle that is watched on TV. Not to say NASA isn't cool, its amazing but more people are aligned with the cars they drive and motor sport in general. A guy like Paul Newman is as cool as they come and a huge influence w Rolex, specifically the Daytona. Enjoy the Speedmaster, great watch.
I have 2 Daytonas, 1 with the white face and silver cronographs and the new 50th anniversary daytona made of Platinum. As much as it felt good to wear the white one, it seems that nobody notices to whereas the other one, I damn near have to hide it bc people recognize it, which is almost always followed by some opinion that they should have kept to them selves. Great watch, the only reason I bought them was bc F1 dropped Tag Heuer (which I think tells the time more accurately ) but I'm not complaining, In love it! Kudos to Rolex!!!
Exceptional Rolex's no doubt....all be the one with the animal print bracelet...do they really sell a lot of those ? I am sure they do though and to paraphrase P.T. Barnum, "there's one born every minute" !
Daytona ? the most unpopular Rolex ever made..........Oh i forgot they had a Zenith movement in them because Rolex couldn't make a chronogragh.....dont believe me? Google it

Which one of these did you walk away with Marc Andre? Please tell us!! 😁
Damm, got busted ;)
Most iconic chronograph? Ehm. What about the Speedmaster?
ahpadt The Speedmaster is of course even more famous and important. But in terms of fame, and prices at auctions, the Daytona is first
true. base on fame and price on auctions daytone first. but chronograph like speedmaster el primero are amaizing piece with affordable price
I understand your point, and it doesn't make sense, but the Daytona is King forever.

Interesting comment and that special 50th is indeed a really really nice version, but as you say it's quite a statement!
勞力士保羅紐曼款迪通拿多年來始終人氣高企!值得擁有!
i think I'm only one here that I don't agree Rolex daytona is not iconic.

All they do is show the time. 😕😕
I like rolex not the high $
Wow, pretty silly. They can afford to even have pressmen killed for not going along with politics.

They indeed had some El Primero movements for a while in them.
Current Daytona's are in house. The chrono to have is a Daytona.
