      Personally, I would really like a smaller tablet iPad mini or S8 because i primarily want it for holding single handed for reading ebooks and drawing but i Really care about the image quality, the higher resolution, the greater colour accuracy the better. I do with it had a 3.5mm headphone jack and the ability to play high-resolution music. I'm pretty constantly listening to audiobooks but when I'm not, i love listening to high-resolution music and high quality UA-cam videos.

    so I traded in my S7 (non plus) for the S8+ about a year ago when it came out and spent around $300 after trade in and military discount and got the slim keyboard for free with it. it has easily been my favorite device to use. I love watching videos on the gorgeous OLED screen. I don't game on it a lot, but I do play some emulators on it and it's been amazing. battery life during use hasn't been the best but its standby battery life is amazing and mixed usage I get 2-3 days of use before I have to charge. software experience has been flawless and has only gotten better with Android 13/OneUI 5.1 release and the improvements they brough with not just Dex but the split-screen experience in the standard mode (which I now use more than Dex especially if only swapping between 2 apps). overall, one of the tech purchases I made last year that I've had zero regrets making.

    I was watching my husband the other day as he sat outside hunched over his small tablet, obviously finding it a bit difficult to view. I immediately knew that for his birthday coming up fairly soon, I would pick him up a larger one. Decided on Samsung's S8+ and ordered it early this morning. The overwhelmingly positive and informative reviews like yours made the choice an easy one, and I'm feeling optimistic he will love the surprise. Thank you!

    I have this Tab for the last 6 months and I am absolutely loving it. iPads are definitely amazing but if someone is using Android for them Samsung is definitely worth spending.
    This device is absolutely amazing for multimedia consumption bcz of the gorgeous 120 Hz AMOLED display but i wish this screen had anti reflective coating & higher brightness but for indoor usage....this is definitely amazing.
    Besides display, I feel the notetaking experience of this tab is better than the iPads.....since the lower latency, pen-paper like feeling & amazing notetaking apps like Samsung notes & Noteshelf. Since Lumafusion is also now available, it is definitely useful for video editing.
    Multitasking experience has definitely improved after Android 12L (OneUI 4.1) with the advent of the taskbar. Regular updates & long software support is also something that Samsung has definitely improved...but iPads are way ahead.
    Presence of spen in the box and expandable storage upto 1TB is something that Apple doesn't provide & it's definitely worth appreciating.
    Thanks Zack for guiding me to purchase this awesome piece of technology. Keep up the good work.

    Pro tip. If you find an official book cover case it has a magnet that you can use with an aftermarket magnetic LED keyboard with trackpad that come on those keyboard cases. Stick a little strip of tenacious tape between the back of the tablet and the magnetic book cover case so that it stays on the tablet securely. It can otherwise detach easily and fall on the floor.
    Samsung tablets are Dex monsters. Pair it with 15.5" portable OLED monitor with type C hub and man you're set for multitasking heaven. I picked up that monitor for $190. Best Galaxy phone or tablet accessory by far. Amazing having 2 OLED screens without spending Apple money.

    I found your review on Reddit and I love your positive, upbeat style!! By chance do you have any 'how-to' videos? Specifically for newbies to the Android world, like myself. I have an iPad Pro 11" that I have no intention of leaving. I take a lot of notes on it and love it. I make and sell digital workbooks and I want to see the experience from the Android user's perspective, so I purchased the S8+ (128 GB) plus a 512GB micro SD card. I need help knowing what this tablet is capable of. Speaking for myself, I am finding that ios is like driving an automatic engine vehicle, pretty self-explanatory and easy. The Android platform is like driving a stick shift, takes a little more thought and coordination. But I love to learn and I would love a course on how to get my way around this thing! After watching many other reviews of the S8+ you seem like the PERFECT person to teach this class! Your style is so engaging! If this is not something you currently do, can you give recommendations to a newcomer to the Android world?

    To be honest, I love the Tab lineup more than the Apple. I switched from the Air 4th Gen to the S7+ early last year, and I didn't regret it. I don't need the M1's power, and for people like SnazzyLabs or podcasters of TheVerge, if you think that Stage Manager is superior to DeX, get out. Dex is far more mature and useful.
    For the S9+, if I would upgrade, I want:
    1. Better baseline RAM. At least 12GB
    2. Better baseline space of 256GB. They did it with the S23+
    3. Ultrasonic sensor
    4. An additional USB-C port. This will work wonders for a second monitor while charging the device

Trying to decide on the Samsung S8 or the Lenovo P 11 Pro Gen 2 since I will be holding my tab on my lap. I have one good eye so screen quality is important to me to be able to see the action well. Thanks in advance. I am subscribed and follow your reviews of tablets. Dr. H.

    • @AndroidDigest

      Thanks for the comment. It's pretty close between those two so for that reason if you primarily care about the screen alone I'd probably go with the Lenovo and save some good money. I'm technically selling my review unit for under $200. You can email me at zach@androiddigest.com if you are interested. I can sell it pretty easily at that price so genuinely my advice isn't just to try to sell you mine. But I know they are similar in screen quality. So you might as well save some money and get the P11 Pro Gen 2.

    I own this one, I catch great deals so it was for price of base iPad Air. I really like OLED screen, but I did mistake, I had to buy S8 Ultra, it was just less than 100 bucks more expensive, but I was scarried by dimensions. Now, S8+ is used mostly on table, so no need for smaller device and Ultra will fit my usege better.
    Anyway., that bigger bezels are need if you using it in hands. Ultra is not primarily for use in hands, so bezels are thinner. I do not have problems with battery live on my S8+. I using that charging to 85% all day long and it gives me even 10hrs video playback.

    Just bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ . . . Even with the 9/9+/9 Ultra available - I *love* it! I love that I can pair it with my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra phone! I use it for artwork via Clip Studio Paint and it allows me to use the Companion application of Clip Studio so I can take my S Pen and grab colors from my phone to draw on my Tab - Its really fun tbh! I'm still learning all the features like the S Pen air motion controls, but I'm also upgrading from a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 so I'm easily amused at this point 😅

    Do you review Chromebooks? I am considering getting one sometime this year between now and Black Friday. Maybe a comparison video between Galaxy Tablet and a Chromebook.

    • @AndroidDigest
      @AndroidDigest  Рік тому +3

      Yes, I don't always review them but I do on occasion.
      If you click on my videos you could find a video that I made on the current state of Chrome OS on tablets. I explain the pros and the cons of owning a Chrome OS tablet.
      Whether it's a tablet or not though I'll simplify here. Chrome OS is a little more flexible than an Android tablet. You get 8 years of software updates essentially from the time the device released. Chrome OS allows you to run full web extensions on Google Chrome because you get a desktop version of Chrome, while Galaxy tablets run an Android version of Chrome that is similar to phones with no web extensions. Web extensions can sometimes be handy for various things so that's one thing to keep in mind.
      Chrome OS tablets and laptops can also run apps from the Google Play store as well. If you don't like how the app works you can always go to the web and you can create a web shortcut to a website. When you do that it will actually put that in your apps, so you can pick and choose what's faster, do you want an Android app? Or a web app? For something like Twitter, The web app actually looks much better and the play store app is built for phones, so it doesn't look very good on tablets. Having that flexibility is really nice. Chrome OS tablets can even run some Linux programs and the more powerful machine you have for that the better. That's not for everyone but it's cool that you could install some Linux stuff.
      The downsides of Chrome OS come in a couple ways. First off, there are a few extra bugs especially with the touch screen. If you use the Chrome OS touch screen keyboard and turn off auto correction it also turns off the swype feature some people like. If you decide to put Gboard as your main keyboard, it's trying to make an android keyboard work on Chrome Os, and it can be buggy, bunching words together when you press the space bar, strange stuff.
      Finally, going to Twitter or Reddit. If you use the touch screen keyboard on those websites and press the space bar the touch keyboard will start blinking randomly. It's a strange glitch.
      Most of these bugs have to do with using the touch screen keyboard. And there's some other small minor bugs too. But they are mostly very minor and the convenience and awesomeness of a lot of Chrome OS features may outweigh those things for you.
      Galaxy tablets can be a little simpler. You could put certain apps on your home screen and customize your home screen. Chrome OS has an app drawer tucked to the side but no home screen to customize. So if you want to customize your home screen to have some quick stuff things can be a little bit easier on Android.
      But Chrome OS can give you web apps when you need them. Android apps, Linux apps, more software support, a lot of great stuff.
      It all depends on what's best for you.
      Whatever you decide to buy, just know that Chromebooks especially have these really big sales at Best buy. They will put new Chromebooks on sale every week or two and rotate them. So if you want a really good Chromebook with touch screen it's really good just to look around 400 or $500 and look for ones that are on sale by 100 or $200. It happens all the time and there are plenty of great deals to be had.

      It's rumored to release in August. Personally, I don't think we'll see a significant upgrade. We will see about 20% higher speeds maybe and maybe 15 or 20% better battery efficiency. But outside of that I think it will be pretty similar. But those numbers are still pretty significant for a lot of people.
      I know the trade deals for the S23 Ultra weren't very good. But they still weren't awful at the same time. I would hope that they would at least give four or $500 for this tab S8 Plus. And you can find one on eBay for like 550 right now. So it's not a bad idea to get one now and trade one in at the launch of the Tab S9. Just my opinion though.

So chances are May or later. Even if they don't give good trade in values again this year though. Yes and no. If you find it for a great price, sure, it's a great tablet, nearly identical to this. There's only one big issue with it: software updates. I'm going off memory but the last OS update it will receive is Android 13. I'm pretty sure it released 1 OS update behind, and only got 2 OS updates. These newer tabs were guaranteed 4 os updates and it released on the current os at that time. So you will still see significant software support, while the Tab S7 is pretty much done receiving big updates. So the S7 plus has a little less longevity. But if you buy it really cheap you could still trade it in down the line and get most of your money back, so not a bad idea. But if you can swing it, or if you find them around $100 or $150 in a price difference, I wouldn't go for the S7 Plus at that point

      A very very small amount under a very heavy heavy load? But it's not overheating hot, or super crazy hot, I've seen devices get a lot warmer if that makes sense. It just may mean the absolute most intense games out there may drop in performance by a small amount to compensate. But it won't effect most people.

    • @AndroidDigest

      S8 + is definitely better if they are the same price. But price is a factor. It's faster. The FE + will have water resistance and one extra year of updates. S8+ will be faster with a better refresh rate and amoled. And a Bluetooth s-pen. So if similar price go with the S8+.

    • @AndroidDigest
      @AndroidDigest  Рік тому +1

      I don't think it's too difficult to handle. I think it comes down to how much you really need an OLED screen, and the screen size. If you're good with no OLED and like a smaller size the S8 is terrific. But OLED can be really nice and the screen size isn't too big in my opinion. I think the S8 Ultra will be a little too big for many. But the Plus is great

    • @AndroidDigest
      @AndroidDigest  Рік тому +1

      I think it's going to be similar to the Samsung Galaxy s23 Ultra. It doesn't have much of an upgrade from the S22 Ultra, just a slight design change and a better processor. But the processor does give it a lot better battery life and it is a lot faster because of the processor. I think it's one of those things that most people with a Tab S8 or S8 Plus or S8 Ultra, I think it's one of those things where those people will probably want to keep their devices. But for those people who have been very sad because their battery life stinks they may want to upgrade.
      One other thing that can entice people to upgrade is really good trade deals. They had these on almost every tablet up to now. But they did nerf trades on the S23 Ultra. So we'll see if that happens with the S9

    • @AndroidDigest
      @AndroidDigest  Рік тому +2

      Not sure where you get that 🤦‍♂️. Both are equally secure. The only extra security apple provides is that extra security you get when you remove all third party app stores and options. The actual app store itself and the tablet itself both have pretty equal security though. They are also both extremely stable, and capable. Yes that iPad is more powerful, but for what? I haven't had a single slowdown on the Tab S8. Doing anything. So I'm not missing any power.
      I'm all for you picking Apple. Maybe you have other things in the ecosystem. The apps may work a little better on iOS or be slightly more optimized. Maybe there are certain apps you can get on Android. Or maybe you just prefer iOS. Plenty of reasons to prefer an Pad. But I wouldn't say it's more stable or secure, or even capable. I'd say they are pretty equal for those things personally
