Yes, i got the same sluggish interface on mine, definitely give yourself a bit of time to configure it (his reboot time is very annoying tbh) ~750mbps on my iperf tests, but ... come on guys, this device is perfect for my parents and works fine for them.
Thank you very much for the detailed information! I have a question regarding forced disconnection: Is there a way to set the time period for automatic disconnection myself with UDR? I am a customer with 1&1 and need to renew my connection every 24 hours.
Bought the Dream Machine Pro. It was $380 on their website. My main reasoning was the full firewall support up to 3.5gps (iperf3 according to ubiquity) and most users seem to see full gigabit support which we have full gigabit internet (1000/1000). I needed a stronger router because we have 3 power users, myself, brother, father.... Our current router, can't handle all 3 of us. I could be gaming, my father streaming 4k, my brother downloading a video game, and my game will get lost packets. The router just takes a crap. And its an Asus "gaming" router. Packet sorting doesn't help and having it off its just even worse. So I needed something that could handle multiple power users so now I will have something that can. For most home users, the Dream Router is more than enough and way better than typical gaming routers. Game routers you mostly pay for gamer aesthetic and certain features like offering "WTFAST" support which is a VPN for gaming, THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY EXTRA FOR, and other "gaming" branded things like "strong wifi" which doesn't really matter. I can't wait to get my Dream Machine Pro and never have connection issues ever again. Right now, with me gaming, my dad streaming, and my brother downloading a game at 90 MB/s, I can run a bufferbloat test and get a D rating. With just me gaming and my brother gaming, my father asleep, we can get a B rating for bufferbloat. Which makes no sense. We should always have an A or A+ rating. I can't wait to see what rating I get with the Dream Machine Pro. Because I am 99% sure I will get an A+ rating doing the same kind of testing. Which means i will be able to play games, never have high ping or packet loss, and my brother and father can do "whatever the hell they want" and it wont ruin my gaming. I feel bad for people who buy gamer branded products, because 9 times out of 10 the "gaming" portion relates to wifi only and has nothing to do with overall quality.
@@koolkiwikat update! Since my original post was 4 months ago. Been using the dream machine pro since and have had 0 bufferbloat issues. I can literally be downloading while gaming and bufferbloat is still A+. Its wild. This router is a godsend. My father will be streaming movies and downloading stuff, my brother gaming, me gaming and downloading stuff, and we still get 0 dropped packets and flawless performance. Its nuts just how amazing its been. Some NOTICABLE changes before and after? I listen to Pandora Radio often, and on the old router when I would "next song" there would be a pause between songs. Like lag or packet loss. Now on the Dream Machine Pro when I click next song, it instantly starts playing the song! I didnt even know this was an issue until the new router showed me.... Wild. Then gaming. Ive noticed better hit reg. Before I would shoot someone and they wouldnt die. "Where did my bullets go?" kind of moments. Now the only time I miss is when I actually miss, no more "he should be dead moments" (except for new warzone 2.0 but thats just a bad game with piss poor programming, every other online FPS game is perfection). Updating my router fixed everything. AND I've noticed people trying to hack into our computers. The dream machine pro security literally notifys me when people try to hack in. And i just end up blocking their IP via the router and the hacks stop. So perhaps my old router was constantly being hacked into? No clue. But now they arent getting through anymore.
Trying to switch from using UCK-2+ & it won't let me apply the backup to my Dream Router. Does this mean I have to setup my network from scratch all over? 🙄
Wonder if we can restore a backup from a USG / Cloud Key enviroment? We have a lot of older residential installs still running Cloud Key ones. This would be a nice upgrade, but I don't want to have to reconfigure the entire network, ie six Access Points, VLANs etc..
It's frustrating how all reviews of this product failed to mention that it has built in noisy AF blower style fan that is always on at ~3000 RPM. There is a shit ton of posts on redit and UI forums from people who can't use UDR in they environment. I'm one of them. I wish I knew about the noisy fan before purchasing UDR :(
I have had mine now for almost 1 month and I am loving it just don’t like how no legacy mode also can not install voip yet via settings need to be installed via shell but just don’t understand how to yet
I spent 2 hours trying to connect to my Dream Router, no Bluetooth, no LAN, didn't even get to the internet bit, ended up dumping it in the bin! Customer support was garbage!
At work, we have multiple companies on a common WiFi AP (no access to underlying ethernet cable) so they use Isolated client as each room is a different company and you can not see another user, even in your own company. I was toying with the idea to use a UniFi FlexHD AP as a WiFi 5GHz receiver, VLAN only, to feed into the UDR WAN port which in turn could output a Company SSID that was not client isolated and then we could use chrome cast devices to large TVs etc. I believe you can put a UniFi AP in an isolated receiver mode to accomplish this task. The supplied WiFi speed is 300Mbps up and 300Mbps down so we are talking less than 1GBit servicing our office of 10 laptops so the UDR should be a cheap fit along with the UniFi FlexHD as a WiFi to POE ethernet convertor. Is this doable?
You've probably done this already. Your plan is doable just with the udr only. you set up vlans to separate the companies and computers, and probably have an control vlan for 1 or 2 devices to hand access to all the vlans. The flexhd seems pointless in your plan and unifi ap device would do the same thing but the udr would be the controller. The udr handles around 800 Mbytes of bandwidth throughput usually good for 1Gbyte connection
So I finally was able to order one. I have a question. Can I just replace remove my USG and add the dream router in its place? I host my own controller and would like continue to do so. I really don’t what to use the UDR as a controller. Is that possible? Sorry if it’s a silly question but I’ve not run across anyone using it this way.
Please can you help me list unifi devices that allow the usage of the guest voucher setup, unfortunately for me some unifi products are not available in my country at the moment. Please just give me the list of unifi that allows voucher set up
Very nice video ! i am using USG and cloud key can i use this one and connect it to my Unifi switch and get everything like the UDM ? have you tried it yet ?
It's junk. The throughput is horrible. 600gb on a gig line with IDS off. I had all sorts of issues pulling in the config from the UDM. It's sluggish. Takes forever to reboot. The UDM is a better performing device. My UDR is going up on Ebay. Waste of money.

its slow, my UDM and UDM Pro get about 900mbps on my network and this craps out around 600-650...way under powered junk...
I'm enjoying mine. I think it's a good introduction to unify software. But yeah, it would be nice to get something twice the price and more powerful.
I don't think you can use more than 2 at a time (ie, Network and Protect) on the UDR
Correct
Willie said that in the video!

you have gig and only can pull half that? whats wrong with it?
