I'm talkin bout Bill Hicks, not Louis CK. You can't sue somebody for wearing a leather jacket, smoking on stage and talking about certain subjects. But just because you can't legally prove that somebody ripped you off doesn't mean they didn't...
any court of law would see that differently, i knew you meant hicks. but leary wasnt even in america when he wrote and performed no cure for cancer, or the asshole song, both were seen for the first time in england. i have seen the hicks stuff about jim fix and other small things and this type of stuff happens. sometimes guys even trade bits if they arent getting any pop. i think its all a bit silly to worry about. im glad we have them both. but you know who reminds me more of hicks? lewis black
Even though I completely disagree with ya bout Leary ripping off Hicks, I gotta say, I like Leary in films and television. I just can't watch the stand up without seeing Hicks all over it...
true, but if it were actually theft of material that someone had legal rights to, legal action would have been taken, and it was not. period. i think this is just a case of jealousy on this ck guys part
his old stuff isnt anywhere as good as his douchebags n doughnuts stuff. he almost seems like tommy gavin in that to be honest, which to me is his career defining role. plus you get to see lenny clarke and adam farrara who are funny as hell. the whiney voiced broad no one ever heard of isnt really funny but the rest of it is gold

I think people are misunderstanding the whole thing, Leary didn't steal the song from Louis, he stole a bit from Louis and turned it into the song.
There's a difference between being influenced by somebody and completely ripping off somebodys whole fucking act.
All Leary had to say was I heard a bit Louis did and turned it into a song.

why dont we talk about how chris rock stole from pryor, or martin stole from eddie murphy, or how they all steal from carlin?
Leary is fucking hilarious idk whats with everyone, i know he stole louis' song but man he is funny as shit

i thought Hicks was Leary's comedy hero ....

"How did you come up with the asshole song?" "I stole it from Louie."
Hmm, Denis Leary isn't that much of a douchebag in this. Cool!
