Talk is cheap. I owned a daycare for 10 years and closed it recently because I was sick of the low respect, low pay and entitlement of parents. The burnout is not worth the price.

This country is an embarrassment. A pure embarrassment. No support for families at all. Our government is an absolute complete joke. So many things wrong with our society and the powers that be care to do nothing to fix it.

It's an embarasment but not in the way you think. People just want to have

@@The2ndFirst what? The woman who lost her job due to no child care was married. And believe it or not, sometimes unplanned pregnancy happens even if people are taking proper precautions. I’m sure you have nothing to offer anyone (financially, intellectually, etc) regarding this situation, so no one is asking you for anything. Bottom line, this country IS an embarrassment, and does little to nothing to help it’s hard working citizens simply trying to make it on a daily basis.

@@travelpro23 Maybe I do have something to offer and maybe I don't. Maybe I'm just a high quality man that doesn't want to waste my time and money on crotch fruit. And on the contrary; When you ask the "government" or the "country" for help you're asking me and my tax dollars to fund your flawed decision making process.
People lose jobs. It's a known thing. Plan better. Unplanned pregnancies wouldn't happen if people planned correctly. Bottom line is why should I and people like me support people who can't take the time or effort to plan their lives?

My dad spends 1600 a month on my daughters day care. They don’t even accept vouchers and her wait time was a year. Day cares don’t even have cameras anymore and you’re paying All that just hoping for the best. Also wish part time workers qualified for vouchers so I could get one. The only thing I qualify for is head start and volunteering there with my son ik it’s a horrible place and they’re better off at home watching tv

if we didnt have to pay half our household incomes in taxes, parents could afford to get by on a single income and raise their children themselves..add it all up: federal income taxes, state and local taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, wheel taxes gasoline taxes, FICA (don't forget the percentage your employer pays there, thats money he could be paying you directly, a total of 15.3 % of your income.
Let's say you pay 15.3 % FICA. Then another 13.3% Federal Income tax. State income tax takes another 8.9%. On an income of $100,000, you just spent $37,500 on government. Then you spend an average of $2690 on property taxes. We are already over 40% of your income.
Chances are, You are probably paying a sales tax about 5.1% on everything you buy. You've got $60,000 left over, so figure out your sales taxes. Don't forget gasoline taxes: 18.4 cents per gallon federal tax, the state tax can be as high as 61 cents per gallon in Pennsylvania.
Keep adding. if you didn't have to pay all those taxes, you wouldn't need child care, one of you could stay home.
The government created the demand for childcare by making it impossible for a family to survive on one income. They created the problem, don't expect them to fix it,

Childcare professionals deserve more pay for what they do. But many parents cannot afford it. It’s a vicious cycle.
We have a sitter that we hired since my baby was born, coz it was still during the pandemic. She is paid average and while we want to give her more, we cant afford it.
Federal govt only lets u at $5K tax free via FSA. ($10K during the pandemic.)… We spend $35K/yr plus taxes. We live in Chicago. $35K/yr is not good income for our sitter either.

I agree that there is a childcare problem, however, if the government steps in to subsidize it in any way, the industry will simply increase their prices and the result will be net nothing for the consumer.
Perhaps there might be some nuances in government regulations that can be addressed to help the industry bring expenses and costs down?

People having children they cannot take care of is and always has been the real crisis. Bringing another person in this world shouldn't be a right anyone who spreads their legs can do, it should be a privilege of people who can prove they have the means of providing for them, not just financially but in every way.

Do it because you’re ready and willing not because people force you to otherwise this is what you can expect if you’re not prepared financially, emotionally, physically, mentally, etc. having children is a privilege not an entitlement.
