      Yup my parents are upset I will not be having kids but me and my boyfriend can barely afford to financially take care of ourselves so how the heck would we ever afford a kid. Money doesn’t grow from trees and society and the government will only have themselves to blame if there ends up be a critical shortage of future taxpayers or labor. Can’t make things beyond expensive and then be perplexed 30 years later when things are screwed up.

    I'm sorry, but child care is hard to come by because centers don't want to pay their workers. You can't expect someone to care for multiple kids, for 8+ hours a day and think they are going to be okay with making 14 bucks an hour. Like here, take care of what is (hopefully) the most important thing in a person's life, but we don't want to pay you a livable wage to do so. I've work as a preschool teacher, director for the Y and now a DoD child care facility and honestly, I can see why the supply is low. Some of these child care workers can make more money working at a fast food place than caring for a number of kids all day.

      I don't disagree with anything you said, but it can be made cheaper through government subsidies based on income and the number of hours that the parent with the least work hours. So if both parents work full time, they get more subsidies. That's the way it works in the Netherlands.

    • @Ryanandboys
      @Ryanandboys 2 роки тому +3

      Bringing in "worker's" that are the only ones that can do the job for the wage that's affordable. At the higher wages there won't be any jobs the parents will just stay home watch the kids themselves. Not to mention actual wage paid is just one part of comp plan. I suppose you think we should not allow woman to work as that just drives down wages? Or heck why let young ppl work that will drive down wages as well. Wages are based on marginal productivity and supply and demand of workers. Childcare has very low marginal productivity and therefore most Americans don't want to do it if they have alternative job that they can be more productive at. And because it's only ever worth the parents opportunity cost for not working only ppl with very good jobs can still afford a $50k nanny to watch 1-2 kid's. This is just the way the world actually works unfortunately.

    • @viperV10
      @viperV10 2 роки тому +2

      @@Ryanandboys yes, it makes fiscal sense. Otherwise, the concept of a seasonal worker would not exist. Seasonal workers for farm jobs during harvest season abide by the exact same principles. Seasonal workers are willing to do these jobs for an unlivable wage (also yes, "affordable" for USA citizens who pay the wage) because their life prospects in their home countries are often much worse; therefore, they are desperate and easily exploited through exceptions made to the regular employment laws. But yeah, this is the way the world works right now.

      @@Ryanandboys So you avoid the economic theory of supply and demand by using a loophole? The people in the USA will not work for lower wages. The businesses refuse to increase wages to entice potential workers. So instead they shaft the people in the USA, and bring in immigrants. Many of which are illegal, that the government even conveniently turns a blind eye to. Where if they refuse to work they are threatened with deportation. Usually they come from cesspools worse than the USA. As let's be honest here who would want to come to the USA that isn't from a worse country? With the exception of the ultra wealthy, or very highly skilled professionals. As rich people in the USA are the only ones who actually get to live. Unsurprisingly as the system is built to cater to the ultra rich. Most of those countries have been sanctioned into oblivion or had CIA coups or other issues. Issues that usually stem from other countries getting involved without being invited in others internal matters.

Many couples have to work opposite shifts , or one just stays home because child care is expensive (it can be higher than mortgage sometimes or the 2nd highest bill in a family budget) , some have the blessing where the grandparents are retired and my keep the kids to help cut down on childcare or pick up after school so not paying for after school care.

      It would help if the journalists gave more insight here. I like to see numbers. There’s always stories on struggles in “real America” and the working class, but remember that at the same time reports of the middle class shrinking and working class is growing, the upper-middle & millionaires that can afford a sub-minimum wage and an extra bedroom to a young person in need of that opportunity, are said to be growing as well. Thanks for asking a good question.

So it's a bit more complicated than middle class is worse off. I myself grew up in a very poor single parent household and all 5 ofy siblings and I are in upper middle class to wealthy. So there is also alot of people moving between classes though out their lives, it's definitely not static.

    Before everyone jumps on me on higher taxes, please math things out.
    If you add medical insurance, state, federal, local, social Security costs, and mandatory vacations and holidays then we are on par with most EU countries but missing all the benefits. This also depends on where you are on the poverty level. If you are upper middle to upper class then your tax rate is about the same EU, lower class is taxed at a lower rate.
    Child and Health care in US is putting Americans into perpetual slavery state. We need to fix this. Biggest headache for parents is child care and higher education tuition, healthcare is the biggest headache during retirement, and social security has many holes act like black swan events that could put most Americans into bankruptcy at any point in their life no matter how well they plan.
    EU childcare and universities are affordable, retirement social security is paid at min of 38% to max of 50% of wages before retirement, and if you loose your job in EU you do not need to worry too much about healthcare or childcare. We claim to be the greatest country in the world, but can you provide examples where we lead in the world?
    Some of you will tell me to go live somewhere else because I'm not American enough, which is fair. But I fought and bleed for this country as a young man because I believe we can do better, and I'm sticking around to keep fighting to ensure we will do better.

    In my family, the cost of childcare is one parent staying home. Living within smaller means, no international vacations, no G Wagons, no lavish expenditures, but the kids are great and parents are happy. Typically the women in my family stay home, and go back to work when the children are in school. My heart goes out to my friends who are doctors, pharmacists, PhD candidates and cannot afford to pay for their student loans, homes and daycare. I hated being in daycare, I wish my parents raised me instead of strangers who would punish me if I refused to bite a child back when the child bit me.

    The cost of nuclear family. Traditionally the whole village will have the same surname so you can just leave your children outside because everyone is family. But due to individualism society force the children to go out of their parents home the second they turn 18 and in turn force the parents to be alone in their twilight years when that's the time when traditionally they help in child rearing too.
    All these problems wouldn't stop until it's not an embarrassment for children (in most cases the first born son ) to stay with their parents for ever. Of course another reason for this to be less possible is because there's no such thing as ancestral homes and everyone seems to be renting.

    • @ex0stasis72
      @ex0stasis72 2 роки тому

      It's not so black and white. You can have individualism and affordable childcare at the same time. The Netherlands is individualistic with most people putting their parents in elder care homes, and the government also provides massive subsidies not only based on income, but also based on the numbers of hours the parent who works the least works. So even if you make a median combined income, you still qualify for a pretty big childcare subsidy.

I thought having a child is being there with your son/daughter for most of their childhood. Plus It's expensive, I read on a New York Times article that childcare is a big portion of money going out from families to day care providers. The average cost of infant care in Ohio is $9,697 per year - or about $800 per month - according to the Economic Policy Institute, For example.

      I agree. Our firstborn was in daycare full-time, 7am-6pm with a bedtime at 8pm, for 15 months. All that schedule leaves time for is a rushed dinner and bath with a quick story time. We finally decided to take him out and we began raising & teaching him at home. Like many others, we were afraid that one parent staying home wasn’t an option, but we took a leap of faith and scaled back on expenses, gave up our newer model vehicles for older reliable vehicles, and paid closer attention to our budget. Less money is coming in today, but we are all so much happier and thriving. The one-on-one time is also so much more beneficial for our little one. Best decision we ever made as a family imo. As parents, we are our kids’ first teachers.

      @@grumpybulldog19 In the long-term that's not a great solution. First, most people want to have some sort of career - taking 12ish years off (at least - if you have multiple children it'll be longer) in your 20s-40s seriously compromises any kind of career progression. Relatedly, many people find the idea of spending over a decade doing nothing but caring for children and housework to be somewhat unfulfilling. What if you want to be an journalist? Or an artist? Or an athlete? Or a programmer? Or any one of 100s of other careers, should you just give that up to have kids?
      Second, realistically, if you force people to chose, many are going to choose not to have kids. Which has larger-scale implications for a country - South Korea's fertility rate is a 0.84 per woman. The country's population is projected to more than half, with most forecasts anticipating a stagnant economy, massive tax increases and serious issues around providing care for a much older population.
      Third, what if you're a single parent? Often, people don't anticipate beforehand that they'll have to raise a child alone. How should they feed themselves? Pay rent?
      And this is without even touching on the fact that, whilst I've been saying 'people' most of the time, it's women. Going back to a world where a significant proportion of the female population is completely economically dependant on a male partner does not sound like a great idea.

And those subsidies can not just be awarded based on income but also based on the number of hours the parent who works the least works. So, a couple who both works full time can still get subsidies even if they made around the median income. That's the way it works in the Netherlands. Imagine making a combined income of $60k USD per year both full time and qualifying for childcare that costs you $3 USD per hour to a max of I think 50 hours per week. Child care is expensive in the US, Canada, and most developed countries. Answer is simple labor is expensive. Europeans claiming childcare is affordable where they live, it's probably because it's subsidized. In some way or another youre still paying for it in taxes, and that's whether or not the taxpayer even has a child.

      Yes its subsidize but difference being in America- we still pay the high taxes pay for someone else's subsidies child care and living arrangements- colleges.. while they my tell people like me or my parents that we make to much money .. when we have to starve ourselves to feed our kids.. where as in other countries they pay the higher taxes and it benefits every one with the option of getting a secondary service if you so choose ..

We have higher cost in schooling, insurance, medical care , inflation is high and all these services no one can reasonably afford .. In the European countries the taxes maybe high but the trade off is every one bennifets from systems in place and can even get a secondary insurance.. if they so choose . @@dakotamabry1645 Apart from ridiculous healthcare and higher education we generally pay much less for food, consumer goods, gasoline than much of the developed world. Cost of living, aside from major coastal US cities, is far less than where I'm originally from of Canada, where average homes in metropolis regions are over a million and gasoline prices converted to one US gallons costs over $5 usd, and almost double that price for many European countries. It's tougher everywhere right now, but there's much worse places.

When she found out that in here people pay between $16 to $20 per hour per one kid, She was so mad and sad at the same time. I remember she saying this world is a mess . 😔

    I have had three Au pairs, all intelligent and educated women who didn’t have the money to study abroad in the US, so they came here as an Au pair because they could live with a family, have support when needed, have room and board, health insurance, food, gas and cellphone paid for by their host families. This video doesn’t present a well-rounded argument because in my experience, all of my Au pairs earned more here in the US as an Au pair than they did in their home countries of Italy, Slovakia and Brazil. I would love if someone could show me an American kid who would work as hard as an Au…sorry couldn’t finish that statement for laughing.

    I work in New York City I was the MasterChef and I they had people taking care of their children the thing that's bad about this is the person with the child 4-year the child gets very detached special child the infant to three or four years old then the person is gone then somebody else comes to work what this does is make a child very insecure and they always wonder what is the people leave and didn't they not like us you know so they automatically feel the person not much there that's the downside of it and that's not very good because two children to never expect to be whole and to be able to count on someone so they just never have that capacity to ever trust

      Yes. I had ambivalent attachment to my mom because I was with strangers at daycare a lot of the time. I remember hugging her and begging for her to not leave me at daycare. Then when she comes to pick me up I run from her, I don’t trust her to drop me off and I don’t trust her to pick me up. My mom could have stayed home but didn’t want to, she wanted to work as a medical receptionist instead of be a full time mom. Maybe it was a good thing for her, but my brother and I are still affected by her obvious attitude that we were burdens and took away her life.
