Love this tip. Does it matter how your club face is positioned at address?
Dude your tips are like cheating,.makes sence eSy to follow and so easy crazy cool. Thanks for giving it up, paying it forward for the game of golf! Oh ya and my score, sweet!! You rock like Accept. I know you know that band
This has TOTALLY transformed my game - I just wish I would’ve started doing it 30 years ago. The great thing about this is that reinforces your other key points: weight on front foot and lead arm straight. It makes these things happen on their own naturally - thank you!!!
AWESOME!! (And better now than another 30 years from now, right Dave? 😎)
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing!! Thanks so much for sharing your improvement and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

I'm getting back into golf after a 14 year hiatus. I have been watching your videos. Man..thank you for making the golf swing simple to understand. I appreciate you saying that you don't need to think (I overthink everything). My son and I went to the range today, such an improvement in my ball striking. Far more good hits than bad. I appreciate the videos

Tom, I'm signing your praises on the Reddit golf swing sub. The way I look at it, if you are going to be a recreational golfer and play or practice a few times a month, take moving parts out of the swing. The less moving parts, the less chance for error. And your swing is not only repeatable, but fluid and beautiful. And I may add, basically pain-free! Can't thank you enough!
That's awesome!! I sincerely appreciate your kind words as well as your support in other forums, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you Excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!!
Thanks so much for sharing your body-friendly improvement and keep up the fantastic work!! 💪💪
Tom
You changed my game 2 years again when I started following you. Love that course as well. I hardly never chunk a shot anymore. Just consistent shot every time. 👌 ty sir. Golf is fun again.
That's fabulous, Peter!! I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!!
Thanks so much for sharing your consistently crispy ball striking and keep up the great work!! 💪💪
Tom
I’m not on your lesson plan but I have watched enough of your videos and they have helped improve my game and knowledge of the golf swing I feel obligated to pay you something .
I sincerely appreciate your generous support and I am very glad to know that you are benefiting from my channel's content!!

Tom
I took this to heart in your golf school, and it really does work. I'm still working on staying down on my shot (I have a tendency to pop up a little in my backswing), but keeping that trail arm tucked and "glued" is money. Trying to apply it to my driver/fairway wood game now!
Awesome - I'm very glad to know that the trail arm "magic" is performing well for you!!
Feel free to post in the school's Members' Community if you're continue to be challenged with that backswing "pop-up" issue. Oftentimes it can be a result of allowing a little bit of weight transfer into the trail side and/or a a loss of tilt.
Keep it glued, keep it crispy, and keep up the great work!! 💪💪
Tom
This has changed my golf swing for the good!!! I get more distance, more consistent, and less pain to the body. Great video!!!
Fantastic! I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Michael; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play.
No surprise, by the way, as this is a proven body-friendly method. In addition to my own personal experience as a golfer who previously experienced back pain, this is further validated by the fact that a significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them.
Thanks so much for sharing your ball striking improvements and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

PS: If you've not already done so, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet.
Thanks again for this tip. After a SHOCKING game on Monday (as if I never played golf in my life), I’ve been using your videos and tips in them to practice on the range for the last few days. I used the shirt trick and it worked. It just showed me that my fault on the course was because I was bending my arms and hitting the ball really heavy or just having continual air shots. After practising using your videos, Im sure it’ll be better next week on the course. Can’t wait to play again. Thank you!
Those days do happen, Helen, and how we react to and deal with them could be considered, I suppose, "Life Lessons From Golf"?... 😎
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating the "shirt trick" into practice with positive results!! Thanks so much for sharing your improvement, keep up the great work, and have fun out there!!

Hi, I was struggeling with my irons for weeks.
I used youre "hit it with youre right shoulder " tip and won the last turnament with a 75 and made it to the european finals in spain, thanks and go on.
Keep it simple 🎉
I won the Masters and the fedex cup... just from that one tip.
@obiwan8177 - That's *FANTASTIC* - congratulations on your victory and advancement!! 💪💪
I'm very glad to know that the shoulder lesson resonated with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!! Thanks so much for sharing your success and best of luck in the finals!!

@beniteztheconman - I suppose there's always someone out there chomping at the bit to sabotage others accomplishments, and in this instance I suppose that someone was you. Congrats on posting a quadruple bogey of a reply....
Just wanted to thank you, even though I haven't played in a real course yet, last night in the driving range I was puring shots effortless (I need to work on consistency still) but the sound and the feeling was awesome! Thanks to your videos. I'm definitely going to subscribe to Saguto Golf School. Greetings from México!! ✌🏼
That is fantastic, Joaquin!! 💪💪

Always great to refreshen up on your videos.
Began golf after stumbling onto my high school golf team. One of my biggest breakthroughs was when coach got me to do this by using a towel under my armpit. I finally got the golf bug after 14 years and I still love hitting with this technique.
Yes! No matter the accessory - towel, glove, headcover, tee, etc. - establishing that proper trail arm connection is key to consistently crispy ball striking.

Looks a great idea Tom. It also stops you bending your left arm - which is a big problem for a lot of us. Thanks!
Yes, David! I'm glad you enjoyed the concept, and I hope the shirt sleeve tuck performs well for you when you put it to practice!!

great video Tom, im working on my Saguto stack and tilt and starting to get some results. Keeping the trail arm glued is a good swing thought (ala Mr Hogan) not changing anytime soon thankfully. one day Hogan, then Nicklaus then Palmer but no more!

CATT
Connect and Turn to Tilt (left shoulder down)
Changed my life... or at least my golf
I even bought a cat club cover to remind me of my mantra
Awesome! I love the cat head cover idea, Justin!!
Thanks Tom you’ve helped me a lot. Best I’ve seen you swing. So easy smooth and effortless.
I appreciate that, Russell, and I'm thrilled for your improvement!!

Tom thanks for another great video. Stack and tilt has paid huge dividends for me. I'm curious what the lie angle is on your irons. Seems like it would be pretty flat?
I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice!
With regard to lie angle, mine are actually standard. Consider that the ideal downswing path is the ideal downswing path, regardless of whether you lift the club up and must then "drop it in the slot" or - as taught here - you just keep it in that slot from the start. Make sense?

It also helps show off my bicep on the course! Glad I did those extra 2 pushups last month. Shirt tucked, you get no yuck!
I'm sure that tucked and flexed biceps muscle is driving all the beverage cart gals crazy.....😆
I love your instructions Tom. Would it be possible to provide a slow motion view of your club path down to contact point displaying your wrists and club face through impact to finish. That would wonderful. Thaks for all yo do!
I'm glad to know that my instruction content is resonating with you, Bill!
I slow down my swing in numerous videos. Beyond that, you can adjust the playback speed of any YT video manually to as slow as 1/4-speed by clicking on the settings button at the lower right side of the video player. Or you can pause a video and press the period ( . ) button to advance frame by frame and the comma ( , ) to reverse frame by frame.
Also, you may enjoy and benefit from the bird's eye view of the entire swing motion provided in this video from my channel's archives: ua-cam.com/video/WxDD63quyk8/v-deo.html

Thanks Tom so much. BTW, I am one of those super, super seniors.
When you lift your hands above your head in the backswing (say at 4:15 in the video) how to you maintain that arm to chest connection. Best I can do is hands about eye level. Thanks
Hi Richard,
Have a look at my swing from the DTL view at around the 5:20 mark - ua-cam.com/video/nImFpLGKc8Q/v-deo.html It is certainly acceptable to have a few inches of space between the trail elbow and the torso at the top, just like I have in my swing. The key is that the arm has not lost its "tucked" orientation and the elbow is definitely not flying away, meaning that it is in perfect position to reconnect in the downswing. The shirt sleeve tuck trick is a great way to ensure that things are correctly connected and oriented to support the external rotation of the arm. I hope that helps!

As a 67-year-old who has golfed to as low as a 3 handicap and then as I got near 60 I lost consistency in my swing. I struggled to find a path back, but only got further away. By chance ( I am not typically a you tube golfer) I watched one of Toms videos a week ago and have played 4 rounds since and they have been consistent in ball striking and I have knocked on being under par at end of two rounds. For me I have one thought and it is magic. (Turn the shoulders), after setting up with weight on lead leg. HUH say again, Weight on lead leg, and boom consistent ball striking. MAGIC
That is OUTSTANDING!! 💪💪 I am very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you; excellent job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play.
Thanks so much for your support in sharing your "magical" improvement and keep up the fantastic work!!
Tom

As you can now attest to, one does not need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought.
Brilliant Tom Just brilliant
I used to play all hands as a kid /no camera live action in those days /and played of a six handicap
I’m 70 now and your lessons transforming my game
Our pro still wants me to pick it up with high hands and I just don’t agree
Thanks again from Yorkshire U.K.
I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Simon, and I am very glad to know that you are benefiting from my instruction! This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top.
Thousands of folks across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of learning this swing system through my online school, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. Compare and contrast that with the sad reality that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well).
Thank you again for your message and keep up the great work!!

Love your videos and tips! I struggle with consistency and it is so easy to roll the right elbow out and up before impact, but it feels so pure when I do keep it connected and tucked. I just need to practice to help it become habit. This feeling and shirt tuck will help. Thanks! 😊

And yes - pulling the upper trail arm into position and then locking it in with the shirt sleeve tuck should really help. It's like taking a "street legal" out on the course with you.... 😎

Great tip! I've been doing this exact thing for a while, but still find it hard with driver.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following:
1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices.
Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA.
2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".)
3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )

OMG Tom, this helped me so so much! Ball strike improved off the charts, BUT, I kept pulling the shot left of target. Took most of my round yesterday to think it was maybe my shoulders that were causing this issue, so tried to hold them back a little and for the last 3 holes, hit it straighter and so solid. Correct thought???
Next, please teach me how to putt. Ruined a decent round by having 43 putts!!!

I tried this technique and the 3 techniques from your free course on the course over the weekend and its already made an improvement on my game, was making good contact, compressing the ball and getting a nice straight flight. Does this technique also work with your driver and 3 wood fairway shots since the shafts are longer than the irons?
Yes. Contrary to old school belief, the swing is the same for every club. Only thing that changes is the plane of the swing.

Nice tips. Someone did advise me during range session to keep my trail arm as per your suggestion and indeed I got better swing. Just one thing, do you have some exercise or tips to fully rotate the shoulder/hips almost 180 degree. Feel a bit uncomfortable doing that. Thanks
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
As for trying to rotate the shoulders and hips 180 degrees, I would feel very uncomfortable doing that as well, since we only need 45 degrees of hip turn and another 45 degrees of shoulder turn!... 😎 It all begins with a proper foundation. For example, weight forward 55/45 (up to 60/40 with the longer clubs), both feet flared out approximately 20 degrees with the knees similarly angled outward, arms hanging naturally from the shoulders (except for the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft), and hands even with the inside of the lead thigh are prescribed setup features of the swing system I teach. This orientation provides for an unrestricted 45 degrees of tilted hip turn, at which point we only need to add another 45 degrees of shoulder turn for a full 90 degrees. The result is a centered, stress-free, flowing motion back and through, and a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing.

Mr. T. Saguto, Thank you for giving us hundreds of U-Tube of Saguto Golf School that are truly informative and practical.
I want to subscribe your membership ($10.00/month), but unable to do it at this moment, because I am living in Indonesia
now and the money transfer fees are so high. I have my daughter in Colorado and I asked her to make an arrangement to pay the subscription fee on my behalf. Once the arrangement is made, I will start subscribing your YOU-TUBEs for members.
Anyway, I have been so impressed with your theories and their applications to striking balls. Your theories are very very simple
but persuasive because your explanation is most of the time based on physics, geometry, gravity & so on. And most importantly, your theory is extremely effective to my actual round, striking balls!! Next year, I would like to visit South Carolina
to see you and to take lessons from you !!!
I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Tadano, and I am very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you!! This powerful, low-maintenance, body-friendly swing system is designed to provide a lifetime of blissful ball striking up to and including at the game's most elite levels, and I am thrilled to learn of your ball striking improvement from implementing my channel's lessons!
I look forward to seeing you soon in the online school, the price of which is $14.99/month. The value of the school is far superior to what you would receive through the UA-cam channel membership. With the channel membership you will receive one members-only lesson video per week plus access to the archive of past member videos. The online school, on the other hand, is a comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Additionally, you'll find all my short game content (putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play), diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and so much more. Also, through the school you would still have access to all of the channel member videos, so if you were to enroll in the school there would be no need to maintain both memberships. Here is a link to learn more about the school: saguto.golf
Thank you again for your message and keep up the great work!! 💪💪

Great tip as usual. What do you think about Hogan's right food being square to the target? I noticed you don't do that.
Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it!
The flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power move that also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lead knee and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process.

Thanks!! I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you, Greg, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice!!
If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper wrist action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Here are a few lessons on this topic:

Great tips as always. I have tried keeping the right arm connected like you show, but I find I tend to come down very steep and choppy when I do this so something not quite right for me yet.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I suggest trying this shirt trick by externally rotating the upper trail arm and then locking it in place with the "sleeve tuck". You trail elbow should then be against your ribcage as demonstrated in this video: ua-cam.com/video/GQI6SoL1AUg/v-deo.html After you have established your connection, _THEN_ take your grip. If you take your grip before externally rotating the arm then that can certainly result in a steep downswing move.

Hi Tom, love your instruction. Does this tip apply to the driver. I'm having all sorts of trouble with the big stick. Thanks in advance.
Yes - it most certainly does. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods.

@SagutoGolf Thank you, Tom. Shot 42 Stableford pts. Won the day and the 4bbb. Great tip and got the driver working. I've got to visit the USA and get a lesson with you. What's the weather like in winter in your part of the world? Greetings from the Blue Mountains Australia.
How much forearm rotation do you feel getting to the top of backswing? Which arm/s do you feel driving the rotation?
Ideally we should simply "allow" the wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. If we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power.

Another great video. I noticed you seemed to be pressing the club handle forward. Do you recommend that or being in the middle?
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Justin!
Weight forward 55/45 (up to 60/40 with the longer clubs), both feet flared out approximately 20 degrees with the knees similarly angled outward, arms hanging naturally from the shoulders (except for the driver, for which we push them out an inch or so to encourage more of the around-the-body motion needed for that lengthy shaft), and *_hands even with the inside of the lead thigh_* are prescribed setup features of the swing system I teach.
With specific regard to the hand position, this presets a measure of forward shaft lean which is supportive of our stock push-draw ball flight. Bringing the hands back is one setup adjustment we can make if we wish to shape a pull-fade type of shot.

Does holding your elbow tight to your body apply also to the hybrid, woods and driver swing or just the irons?
Yes, Eric - This swing key also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ua-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/v-deo.html

@SagutoGolf thank you sir, I did watch the video. I have a slight slice with my driver that I have terrible getting rid of. My woods every now and then I get a good hit. I feel pretty good with my irons. Thanks again Tom.

Is it possible to get to low and inside on the take away? I can’t seem to get back to the ball without coming over the top.
It depends on how you are going about it, Mark. The swing is a tilted circle (or arc, if we wish to get technical), the circumference of which extends from the ball to above and behind our shoulders. As such, if we are going to remain on that circle/arc it requires the hands and club to take a slightly inward path - _not a disconnected snatch or roll to the inside_ - just a natural tracing of the outer rim or circumference. The feeling of "straight back" can easily pull the golfer off of that preestablished geometry right from the start, and from there precise compensatory actions are necessary if there is any hope of returning the clubface to the ball on the proper path time after time.

Thanks Tom, I sure will watch.

Tom, I’m curious why you play the ball so far back in your stance? Or does it just look that way on camera?
Hi Anthony,
Yes - We first need to be aware that camera angles can greatly skew the viewer's perspective on ball position. That aside, while this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape.

I played yesterday and shot 90 (bogey round) using the training tip trail arm up and over drill from the online golf school. My errant shots are left with a hook other wise straight baby draw. My question is could I be setting up too close to the ball when working with the trail and back swing drill causing an over the top move? Eight pars and 4 bogeys but unfortunately 6 others causing at least 7 extra strokes.
Hi Grant,
As a school member you will be far better served if you post swing-specific questions such as this to the Community in the online school platform. The level of detail you are seeking here is beyond the scope of this public forum.
Thanks!
Tom
But what about your tip of getting the lead arm off the chest during the downswing?
It still applies, Bob - there's no contradiction. This is intended to put you in a great position at the top to seamlessly transition into a properly sequenced and shallowed downswing.
You of all people know that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. 😎 They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of the online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning a body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance swing that will provide them a lifetime of consistent ball striking bliss and true enjoyment of this great game. But hey - I'm preaching to the choir here....😆
TS
Interesting. I've always heard of tucking the shirt under the lead armpit but not the trailing arm
This tucking of the trail arm encourages its proper external rotation. This action then facilitates the shallowing of the downswing path while simultaneously retaining the stored energy in the folded arm for a very powerful punch through impact. Here is another recent lesson specific to this trail arm "magic" that has helped countless golfers across the globe to overcome a myriad of issues and experience great ball striking: ua-cam.com/video/GQI6SoL1AUg/v-deo.html

I’ve only been playing golf for 3-4 months, but this tip changed my game entirely. I shot a 97 and broke 100 for the first time, and if my putting wasn’t completely terrible that day, I would’ve easily broke 90.
I seriously have a Saguto checklist that I run down every time I take a swing. It starts with the back swing, hinge my wrists while keeping the wrist flat, find my end point in my backswing, keep my elbow tucked in to my side, weight forward, keeping a good relationship with the ball.
It’s cut down so much on mishits.
You broke 100 and felt that breaking 90 was a possibility, and you're only a few months into your golfing career??? That's spectacular!!! 💪💪
I certainly understand the checklist at this juncture, but do know that the ultimate goal is to get your mechanical thoughts down to a bare minimum (if any). An effective, repeatable golf swing is best built on a compilation of personal "feels" that are unique to each of us individually but which at the same time are supportive of the correct actions. Over time we ingrain these feels into a complete motion that we own and can execute without need for mechanical thoughts.
If true simplicity is what you seek, then the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school is the place. That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Once you've ingrained your feel for the motion and commit it to autopilot, you'll then be able to go out there without all that clutter and just have a "swing trigger" thought in your mind. That's when you will truly be able to enjoy playing golf rather than "checklisting" yourself through a round of "golf swing".
Thousands of men and women from across the globe spanning all age ranges and talent levels are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of the school, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews

And at just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year, the value for what you get is beyond comprehension. saguto.golf
Thanks for sharing your great progress so far and keep up the fantastic work!!

@@SagutoGolf thanks man! I’ve been playing a lot, but just got my first set of clubs in May. Been playing at least once a week, sometimes more. Your channel has helped me so much in such a short time.
I do think 90 was a legitimate possibility. I had 2 eagle putts that ended up as a bogey and a par lol if I could’ve putt half as good as I usually do, I think I could’ve shaved 7 strokes to get me around 90.
I am almost getting to the point where the swing is ingrained, but it definitely takes work. I was swinging a golf club like a baseball bat before I found your channel lol. One day, when my finances are a bit more stable, I will absolutely be buying your course. Just your free videos have helped me beyond belief. Can’t imagine the results your students are seeing.
So would you say this is more important than “width” (right elbow off of body) for high handicaps? Is that what width means?
The misunderstood notions and false assumptions associated with "width" have led many an amateur golfer to inconsistency and frustration. If we agree that the swing is an arc of a centered circle, then it can only have one radius - that being the straight lead arm that is established at address. This does not mean that we actively shorten or collapse the trail arm during the motion. Instead, if we pre-establish the connections properly in the setup - for example with the upper trail arm as demonstrated in this video - and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct actions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper wrist action and folding trail arm - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. Here are a few lessons on this topic:

Hi Tom, with that tuck in elbow, at top it looks like the club already shallowed, and the right wrist extremely bent back. Is that correct?
If you execute this correctly as demonstrated you'll be in a great position at the top to seamlessly transition into a properly shallowed downswing with a perfectly set trail wrist condition - not "extreme" but just right.

I’ve seen a way to help keep that elbow tucked in by using a head cover and putting in your armpit, making sure it doesn’t fall.
Yes, Dom - also a glove, a tee, a towel, etc. - and these are all excellent on the practice range. However, the shirt sleeve tuck is the only one you're allowed on the course!
