That area you found at the end is one of my favorites aesthetically, it's called the Meteor Field. Keep exploring that area of the map and you'll find some really cool stuff in and around it.
You can't make fuses, btw, you can only find (or later buy) them, so always pick them up when you come across them.
You'll be able to drink the water later when you unlock a filter.
