    I miss Karl so much! he managed to do haute couture at chanel with simplicity and without losing the exuberance of a haute couture collection! the beauty of couture is the impeccable fit and magnificent craftsmanship on the clothes! I don't know who is the most boring of all... that lady who took Karl's place at Chanel or Dior. simplicity in a collection is not to lose the characteristics of the handcrafted work that haute couture brings us... look at Mr Armani's collection, simple and delicate and without losing quality in the creations. it's unfortunate that a house like chanel has turned into such shit

    I don't always think that couture has to be avant garde. I'm not the kind of person that believes that couture is supposed to have an aspect of unwearability to it. I don't believe that it needs to be anything else but the absolute epitome of craftsmanship and quality. It should always have a connective thread to the house and its other collections. It should feel like a part of the journey. This feels too much like a part of the journey. Its nearly indistinguishable from Virginie's RTW collections. There's no evolution...not in occasion or spirit. There is zero element of whimsy or fantasy. What's missing is the buoyancy and exuberance that always came with a Chanel Haute Couture collection. Even all that, I can forgive...but there's really no excuse for the absolute lack of attention to fit. A haute couture garment is nothing if not absolutely perfectly engineered around the body of the wearer. These clothes are far too relaxed. When nothing matters in Couture anymore, nothing matters.

      The couture is an art form, yes.
      And you are correct that it doesn’t have to be so extreme to be seen as ridiculous.
      However, Virginie is a woman designing for women.
      The quality of fabrication, the craftsmanship, and all the applied arts of the craft are seen here.
      There’s a fine line between fashion and fashion victim.
      This collection along with her past collections to date are giving her customers what appeals to them. They are the ultimate arbiters of what works or not.
      Fashion has to sell.
      It can’t be just for editorials, or the acclaim of fashion historians.
      This collection is beautiful and based in reality. That has always been the ethos
      @Chanel.

      @@ewat4753 What you're describing makes perfect sense for ready-to-wear. I have been quite impressed with how approachable and youthful she's made the aesthetic.....but this is couture. Its not about commercialism, its not about return on investment (in a direct way), its not about mass appeal....its purely a display of what a house CAN do. Its marketing. Marketing has to sing. This doesn't sing.
      Do women buy couture? Yes. But for these prices, they're trusting Chanel and Virginie to create something for them bespoke. If you want those women to continue that relationship you have to inspire them to keep their many thousands of dollars at Chanel and not at some of the more innovative houses like Schaiparelli (age old rivals).

    • @arucker8631

      It took me a while to realize that the House of Chanel exist within their own universe, meaning Chanel sets, follows, and establishes their own themes, codes and vocabulary outside of what other design houses are doing. And once I accepted that I started seeing Chanel with a different mindset, and was able to really see how Chanel keeps evolving clothes that are part of the vocabulary of the house, exclusive to Chanel. I have watched several of the videos here about the making of the haute couture collections at Chanel, and the work and craftsmanship that goes into making the clothes is unbelievable and truly amazing that everything is all handmade is mind-blowing. But aside from the beauty and craftsmanship of Chanel haute couture, and also with the ready to wear collections, since Virginie has taken over, it feels like she has erased all the fun, humor and the whimsy from Chanel. It misses that element of magic and fantasy spirit that was Karl Lagerfeld . Rather it was ready to wear shows or couture shows his sets always seemed to enhance the collections. The space ship, the grocery store, etc, his imagination never stopped.

    I'm sorry. I disagree with most of the comments I saw here. I see this collection as Virginie really coming into her own. I love the luxurious fabrics, the custom embroidery, the detailing. I love the use of Chanel tweeds and the metallic threads. I have been a harsh critic of Virginie in the past, but I really enjoyed this show. What a departure from that black and white collection at the convent in the days of COVID. Much brighter, much more like Spring.

I think if the floor was an amazing mosaic floor instead of concrete and the ceiling was a light colour or more open would change the whole mood. Plus the music is dreary. Perhaps Grand Palais would of been better venue. Plus I would like more showpieces at the end such as dreamy romantic dresses.

      One of the luxuries of couture is that the clients are able to alter the garment to their own personal style and likes. I'm sure many will order slightly longer skirts or whatever. Of course with every design house, the trick is appealing to younger customers while keeping existing customers too.
