Elvis might have sung Unchained Melody, but that song will always belong to Bobby Hatfield. You can tell that in is finale years, some of his voice has left him, but in his prime, he could not be beaten. He was the absolute best.
It depends on your POV. When I was a kid I had heard it sung on the pop stations in 1955 by someone, who was either Al Hibbler or Roy Hamilton. I also remembered Ebb Tide, probably the 1954 version by Roy Hamilton. Loved them both, never heard them again until Bobby. Then along came Bobby, who sang BOTH. My, my. I was in college so impressionable end of teens but I can't say the song belongs to him. Elvis didn't have a hit I ever heard on the radio. He had his own long chain of songs that belonged to him but not Unchained Melody. At least here Bobby nailed that high note. He didn't at the R&R Hall of Fame (Lovin' Feelin').

He was truly special and when he sang, even after his voice changed, he's the only person that ever gave me goose bumps, tied my stomach in knots and made me want to cry he was so good. This Black woman is in love with these guys! I wasn’t quite the teenager when their music was first broadcasted over the radio. I heard it, but at that time, I wouldn’t have understood the love and passion they had in their music; but I’m glad I’m old enough now to appreciate their amazing voices and their soulful sound. I can understand why they were so popular, and I’m sure they made a lot of women swoon and melt whenever they sang those beautiful, heartfelt, and spiritual songs, and they’re still touching so many women’s hearts and spirits today...breathtaking! I love these guys; how can any woman not fall in love with them, and they’re so handsome? Bobby, like all of us, had sorrows and tragedies in his life, but, he also had great love and joy. He and Linda were devoted to each other. Sadly, she passed away a few years after him. She had lupus and he took great care of her. For many years, he sponsored an annual golf tournament and Righteous Brothers concert to raise money for Lupus R&D. According to his children, he was a wonderful father that they still love and miss. Not a bad legacy.
He was 63 at the time. Not long before his death. Yet his body language and humor says that he loved to sing. He's been gone almost 20 years, but we still have the beautiful legacy that he left us. His music. There was no one like him. We miss you, Bobby. If you were still here, you would be singing right there along with Bill.❤❤❤

Even though the Righteous Brothers were around when I was a young teen, I just recently fell in love with them in a whole new way. I adore them, but especially Bobby. To think that sweetness in him was tainted in him by drugs and alcohol just hurts so much. I have experience with plenty of that in my family, and it breaks my heart. But we’ll all see him in concert again someday, because I’m sure he’s going to heaven. 💗
I don't believe the drugs. He did drink and smoke. It was such a miniscule amount found in his system. Nothing was found in his room. His family, friends and Bill never saw him take anything or show symptoms of drugs. Something isn't right.
I was fortunate enough to see them perform at The Orleans Casino in Vegas about two months before he passed away. I recall he introducing his wife and 16 year old daughter both of whom were in the audience as it as her 16th birthday.
I'm not doubting you saw him in Vegas; however, if you are saying it was his daughter's birthday, it couldn't haven't have been 2 months before he passed away. Her birthday is in February, and he died in November. Also, she was 21 when he died. Yes phillippogue, they blended so well together, bill was a baritone, bobby was blessed with a contratenor. They were very talented in there own respective voices. Bobby after all these years, he is still singing, in the heavenly choir. What a blessed individual, he was dearly blessed, with that voice.

Thanks to a buddy of mine, I actually got in the "green room" with the Brothers at a concert in Orange County in 1965. We chatted for a minute or so, enjoyed it and thanked them for the time. Their songs are among my favorite memories of my disc jockey days back then. Thanks guys and R.I.P. Bobby!
Bobby had lot of heart trouble he had a blockage 94% closed up in his heart smoking didn't help his voice at all they say he was a chain-smoker if you notice in this interview and all that he has a hard time breathing that's what it is his heart
Ive seen them perform 3 times in concert and once at Astroworld in Houston, and they were so Amazing. There voices blended like Angels, and they were so nice to everyone. I got an autograph and its one of those cherish momento that I own. Thank you Bill, and Bobby in Heaven😢❤❤.
Went to their concert in August 2001 at Six Flags Fiesta Texas I sure felt so good being there and I did say it I was having a ball. I did hear the same thing about Elvis what Bobby said when I went to Graceland I read it on the tour guide book that Unchained Melody was the last song that Elvis sang.

I've seen many wonderful words applied to Bobby Hatfield's singing though never "interpreter" -- but that is exactly accurate. The complex musicality of his singing voice combined with the complex meaning and emotion is so profoundly fulfilling.
Bobby is gone now and I think when sang in his youth he had the best voice. Here, neither of them seem to be able to belt it out like they used to. Maybe this happens with age. I don’t know. RIP Bobby..You guys were the best back in the heyday.
I saw them in '65, '68 & '77. When they started touring again I saw them every year they came to Boston. They were on The Esplanade in 2000-?, where the Boston Police estimated the crowd at 500,000. My husband & I flew out to Vegas in October, 2003. We had tickets for an August 2003 show, but had to fly to Fort Lauderdale to pass papers on a condo. I always knew that Bobby would die at an early age. Don't ask me why. It was a premonition. My husband & sister & myself met Bobby & the band every year they came to Cohasset, MA. He was a humble man, who thanked God for his success. He was down to earth & not at all like, "Do you know who I am?" But the Goddam drugs got to him. Bobby, we miss you & we'll see you & hear you when we pass & elevated to heaven. RIP, Bobby!
It deeply saddens me to know i will never get to see them sing live being since weve lost bobby. Im so jealous i didnt get to grow up in the 60s. I bet they were so fun to hang out with and Bobby was STILL killing it at 63.
I was only able to see them once, just a year or so before this was taped. I guess we should be thankful for all of the live videos that are still on youtube! :( I thought about going and seeing the latest show in Vegas. I drive by it a few days a week when I am out at work, but I just cant do it. Not without Bobby. I do hope they keep showing up though for Bill’s sake!

Read Bill' memoir. One time Bobby had a blood clot in his leg and those around him had to drag him to a doctor. Afterward he would never see a doctor. Bill said " Nobody could make Bobby do anything he didn' t want to do."

Love Bobby! What year was it when a criminal jumped him in a parking lot - broke every bone in his beautiful face? They were great together but Bobby I felt was the more talented - & in his prime was truly sooo easy on the eyes! Looks & talent - doubly blessed!
Sept 1988 - but it was no assault. He and a friend, who were both intoxicated, were horsing around and Bobby slipped and fell. That’s by his own account and the police report which they reluctantly had to file because the hospital reported it…. He initially said it was a stranger so his friend’s name wouldn’t come into it.
It was a drunk bartender from the Hop (a club Bobby was part owner of) who Bobby tried to stop from driving. In brief, outside the club, he tackled Bobby from behind driving him into the ground. He had serious head injuries. Bobby's wife witnessed it and filed a police report the next day after Bobby got out of surgery. Somehow or other, people who had no I idea what was truly going on spread the story that it was friends horsing around that caused to Bobby to slip and fall. [Everyone should thank zanhar for taking the time to confirm the correct information.]
@phyllisrogers, he made Bobby sound like a child who he had to take care of all the time. He said he was always concerned about what might come out of Bobby’s mouth so he was always on edge. That Bobby didn’t take their recording seriously, he would show up at recording sessions late with a case of beer. When Bills wife was killed, he said after telling Bobby that he was taking some time off to take care of his son, Bobby got angry and said Bill was deserting him. I just can’t see Bobby saying something like that because he had kids of his own. Bill also said that when he decided to reform the RB and went looking for Bobby, he found him in an small apartment that he was about to be evicted from and Bill got him a place to live and gave him $35,000 for a “ much needed face lift.” I read recently that Bill is backpedaling on some of the things written in the book about Bobby. The only nice thing he said about Bobby was in the last sentence in the chapter on Bobby’s death, he said “there will never be another Bobby Hatfield.” P.S. My copy of Bills book was used in my cats litter box which is where it belonged.
😢 I don’t see the need for Bill to write that. If they were friends, “ brothers “ He has simply done what was right ! Everybody knows Bobby’s problem with cocain , one of the sad adiction that artists faced, we saw the efect of alchool drug abuse on Elvis, both drugs in Janis, Morrisson and so many others until now. I have a son who spent 15 years with this adiction and He had the support of Everybody who loved him and now he is ok. There is no shame, I think they are making a big Tabu on this issue. 😢

And finally being inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier that year and this interview with the performance bring some gladness with the sadness. Yes phillippogue, they blended so well together, bill was a baritone, bobby was blessed with a contratenor. They were very talented in there own respective voices. Bobby after all these years, he is still singing, in the heavenly choir. What a blessed individual, he was dearly blessed, with that voice.

Thanks to a buddy of mine, I actually got in the "green room" with the Brothers at a concert in Orange County in 1965. We chatted for a minute or so, enjoyed it and thanked them for the time. Their songs are among my favorite memories of my disc jockey days back then. Thanks guys and R.I.P. Bobby!

This was from about 2003, the same year Bobby Hatfield passed away.
Bobby had lot of heart trouble he had a blockage 94% closed up in his heart smoking didn't help his voice at all they say he was a chain-smoker if you notice in this interview and all that he has a hard time breathing that's what it is his heart
Ive seen them perform 3 times in concert and once at Astroworld in Houston, and they were so Amazing. There voices blended like Angels, and they were so nice to everyone. I got an autograph and its one of those cherish momento that I own. Thank you Bill, and Bobby in Heaven😢❤❤.

Went to their concert in August 2001 at Six Flags Fiesta Texas I sure felt so good being there and I did say it I was having a ball. I did hear the same thing about Elvis what Bobby said when I went to Graceland I read it on the tour guide book that Unchained Melody was the last song that Elvis sang.

I've seen many wonderful words applied to Bobby Hatfield's singing though never "interpreter" -- but that is exactly accurate. The complex musicality of his singing voice combined with the complex meaning and emotion is so profoundly fulfilling.

Bobby is gone now and I think when sang in his youth he had the best voice. Here, neither of them seem to be able to belt it out like they used to. Maybe this happens with age. I don’t know. RIP Bobby..You guys were the best back in the heyday.
I saw them in '65, '68 & '77. When they started touring again I saw them every year they came to Boston. They were on The Esplanade in 2000-?, where the Boston Police estimated the crowd at 500,000. My husband & I flew out to Vegas in October, 2003. We had tickets for an August 2003 show, but had to fly to Fort Lauderdale to pass papers on a condo. I always knew that Bobby would die at an early age. Don't ask me why. It was a premonition. My husband & sister & myself met Bobby & the band every year they came to Cohasset, MA. He was a humble man, who thanked God for his success. He was down to earth & not at all like, "Do you know who I am?" But the Goddam drugs got to him. Bobby, we miss you & we'll see you & hear you when we pass & elevated to heaven. RIP, Bobby!
Bill still is even though he's in his eighties he still seems good and also had throat cancer and beat it

It deeply saddens me to know i will never get to see them sing live being since weve lost bobby. Im so jealous i didnt get to grow up in the 60s. I bet they were so fun to hang out with and Bobby was STILL killing it at 63.
I am sad also that I never saw them live. Though I am so glad that we have the sounds, sights, and spirits living on to inspire and enjoy.

I was only able to see them once, just a year or so before this was taped. I guess we should be thankful for all of the live videos that are still on youtube! :( I thought about going and seeing the latest show in Vegas. I drive by it a few days a week when I am out at work, but I just cant do it. Not without Bobby. I do hope they keep showing up though for Bill’s sake!

Read Bill' memoir. One time Bobby had a blood clot in his leg and those around him had to drag him to a doctor. Afterward he would never see a doctor. Bill said " Nobody could make Bobby do anything he didn' t want to do."
I have a sincere question. Why do people take everything Bill says as gospel truth? Read the book and found it to be poorly written self-aggrandizing garbage.

Love Bobby! What year was it when a criminal jumped him in a parking lot - broke every bone in his beautiful face? They were great together but Bobby I felt was the more talented - & in his prime was truly sooo easy on the eyes! Looks & talent - doubly blessed!
Sept 1988 - but it was no assault. He and a friend, who were both intoxicated, were horsing around and Bobby slipped and fell. That’s by his own account and the police report which they reluctantly had to file because the hospital reported it…. He initially said it was a stranger so his friend’s name wouldn’t come into it.
It broke or cracked his pallette also.
It was a drunk bartender from the Hop (a club Bobby was part owner of) who Bobby tried to stop from driving.
In brief, outside the club, he tackled Bobby from behind driving him into the ground. He had serious head injuries.
Bobby's wife witnessed it and filed a police report the next day after Bobby got out of surgery.
Somehow or other, people who had no I idea what was truly going on spread the story that it was friends horsing around that caused to Bobby to slip and fall.

@phyllisrogers, he made Bobby sound like a child who he had to take care of all the time. He said he was always concerned about what might come out of Bobby’s mouth so he was always on edge. That Bobby didn’t take their recording seriously, he would show up at recording sessions late with a case of beer. When Bills wife was killed, he said after telling Bobby that he was taking some time off to take care of his son, Bobby got angry and said Bill was deserting him. I just can’t see Bobby saying something like that because he had kids of his own. Bill also said that when he decided to reform the RB and went looking for Bobby, he found him in an small apartment that he was about to be evicted from and Bill got him a place to live and gave him $35,000 for a “ much needed face lift.” I read recently that Bill is backpedaling on some of the things written in the book about Bobby. The only nice thing he said about Bobby was in the last sentence in the chapter on Bobby’s death, he said “there will never be another Bobby Hatfield.” P.S. My copy of Bills book was used in my cats litter box which is where it belonged.
😢 I don’t see the need for Bill to write that. If they were friends, “ brothers “ He has simply done what was right ! Everybody knows Bobby’s problem with cocain , one of the sad adiction that artists faced, we saw the efect of alchool drug abuse on Elvis, both drugs in Janis, Morrisson and so many others until now. I have a son who spent 15 years with this adiction and He had the support of Everybody who loved him and now he is ok. There is no shame, I think they are making a big Tabu on this issue. 😢

I've wondered about the facelift story. I've seen pix of Bobby from 1972. He looked great. Can't imagine what could have happened to his face between then and 1974.

He did have a 42 year career in the Righteous Brothers . And finally being inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier that year and this interview with the performance bring some gladness with the sadness. Of course he doesn't sound musically as he did when he was 25 on The Andy Williams Show, but he exudes his heart 💜 and soul 🌀 as passionately and beautifully.
