I've always wondered if I should do a vid of this game myself because I enjoy it so much. But boy, you've done a brilliant job of capturing the game so well. It's a difficult one to film but you got the angle, the overlays - great job! :)
Thanks mate! You should! It's really fun watching other people play this. It feels like everyone plays it differently! Thanks again for your very kind words!
44:20 points out one problem with the game board, it gets way over-crowded trying to put all the Hostiles on the board. If you have enough table space you're better off not even using the game board.
House rules here. 5 elite enemy cards into the front lines. Max 2 reinforcement from the locations. Normal draw reinforcement from enemy cards. I found this is balanced. In my first plays I had the same mess like you, and I think it is unbelanced. I have several ideas how this game can be improved, massively and became a much better game. GREAT VIDEO and Yes! I love this game.

I just picked up the game this week and yours is the 4th play-thru video I've watched. First of all: GREAT job filming and narrating. The other videographers seemed to always take at least one machine gun or SMG and a bunch of grenades. The part I noticed is where you opted not to play the "Trenches" with NONE for reinforcements as your second location. I didn't quite understand what the rule not allowing attacks on this position unless they were from an elevated position. I may have gone this route and taken my chances with no reinforcements coming down the road. I am still learning and have yet to play my first game - but, I've got it all set up and make a run at it tomorrow. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! Yeah the SMG is good but expensive! I usually prefer many grenades and than semi auto rifles. About trenches: Some locations are "elevated". Unless they are, hostiles on those locations can not attack your soldiers in the trenches. Oh yeah, corpsman kit is always handy :D
Thanks for the video! Tough match here lol. I’ve seen a few videos on this game and it looks interesting, but I gotta say the board appears poorly designed. Even with a game that got half as out of hand as this one would’ve been hard to manage with the space provided. The board really should be oriented vertically rather than horizontally. The cards spots, time track and rules could’ve been put onto a separate smaller board, or even card spots deleted altogether. I understand that there are some bigger matches requiring more of the horizontal area, but in most matches half, or even less is used yet with enemy cards being plopped down often the space needed is entirely inadequate. Very weird given the game design that they thought 2 spots for enemy cards would be sufficient. Just my 2 cents anyway. Thanks again sir!
Thank you Pete! From what I heard, the game actually didn't have a board at first. I believe it was added late, after development as a stretch goal or something similar, during the Kickstarter campaign.
Whoops! I targeted the wrong soldier. I guess I got confused by the 20+ hostiles 🙈😅 Well, there was a grenadier after this one that would have targeted Scott (#4), so hopefully my error didn't change the outcome to much. Thanks for watching. Did you decide to back the new games on Kickstarter?
Just a quick rules check...I don't think you need to discard Action Cards when your PS loses health. Page 29 of the March 2021 Universal Rulebook: "You can always draw Action cards due to a card effect, even if the draw puts you in excess of your Hand Size. Your ability to draw a card is only limited during a “Discard and Draw Cards” Action. You never need to discard Action cards due to having too many cards in your hand." Thanks for the video, very well produced.
New player here. At 29:22 you draw the second hostile with a value of 3. The location only has a value of 2 hostile. Wouldn't the machine gun team be an invalid hostile since it's worth 3?
Hi! Welcome to a great game. No, 2 is not the max value but an indicator when to stop drawing. Keep drawing hostiles until you have met or exceeded that value. From the rules: "Draw Hostile cards one at a time and keep an ongoing total of the Experience Point value of the Hostile cards drawn. When you draw a Hostile card that brings the total Experience Point value equal to or greater than the Location card’s Hostile value, stop drawing cards." So you keep drawing until the total enemy EXP is equal OR greater than the locations hostile value, THEN you stop! Hope that helps! Dan
I've been playing this for about a month, and my special ability is that no matter how many times I shuffle the Action Card deck, I get the Location cards clumped together so that I don't get any of them for 4 or 5 turns and then I get like 5 of them at once.
I would not say you did anything wrong per se. The game is designed so that by luck or lack thereof with respect to the card draw getting overwhelmed frequently occurs. You might have tried to get location cards that had none or lower levels of reinforcements. You were also hampered by entrance costs and the game does a marvelous job of bogging you down. It is supposed to be difficult to win which is what makes it fun and challenging. You had quite a few locations to get through and actually did quite well to even get one of your soldiers into the objective location. The other game mechanic that is hard to overcome is having to kill all the hostiles in the objective location before destroying the intended target. Keep trying. When you succeed it will feel like a major accomplishment.
Yeah I read that they designed the game so that enemies should be surpressed rather then killed, and if you try to kill everything you will get bogged down and fail :(
At 18:46 shouldn't you draw for enemy reinforcements? The Pasture card has Reinforce 3. [edit] Oh but you just played that location this turn. so no reinforcements. My mistake
Not that it would really matter but you should apply wounds as separate counters as each counter needs to be treated individually, valiant attempt though at a very challenging mission
lol this is every warfighter game for me. just get overrun with so many enemies. its so easy to get bogged down in crowd control instead of pushing forward. at the same time you just can't ignore them all the time either. its a tightrope tough tough game. im sure there's tactics and things that i'm just not seeing/doing...
yeah I dont get it. I have spent considerable funds on this game and 9 times out of ten its an unwieldy mess that's almost impossible to win and is almost unplayable. I keep playing trying different tactics to avoid this but then you just sit on the second or third location and never get anywhere. I have decided to just make house rules to adjust. I am only allowing a location one reinforcement. In other words i draw for reinforcements if they dont get any I will draw as normal next turn but if they get reinforcements they never get to draw for them again. May make it too easy I dont know but I can always put in elites if I need to toughen them up because played as is , is a mess IMO.
You got to stick together, if you spread out, the enemy reinforcements will zerg you. This is the only game mechanic that I do not like because it makes using Snipers and other support members completely useless in my opinion. But yeat, stick together, don't stick around either, surpress and move on. If you spread out, or if you stick around and try to kill everything, you will get zerged badly. Move in a group, Surpress, Stay moving. That is the key to victory in this game. And grenades. Lots of grenades.
@@kurtthecat3995 Sorry but I did not have the opportunity to play this in quite a while so it's hard to say because I honestly can't remember xP But generally I would say that this game is awesome when it comes to player suited experiences. You can mix and match like you want, and tailor the experience to your needs!
Valiant effort. I saw the writing on the wall on turn 2. I think your first location worked poorly against you. Several things I noticed. You moved a few times just to shoot at range 1. You should attack first at range 0, then move away. Also, many of the enemy attacks where they automatically defeat cover...you never took your own suppression’s....likely would have died a turn or two earlier. When getting an EKIA on a suppressed enemy, you should be replacing a suppressed token with EKIA instead of adding it.
Thank you Tony! Yeah it was bad from the start! I noticed while playing that I moved before shooting and that was one of my misstakes. The enemy only does automatic suppression against McDougall who has a cover value of 1. Do you have a time stamp for the time that I forgot to add a suppression? You are wrong about replacing a suppression with an EKIA. According to the rules, can choose between adding an EKIA or replace one suppression with an EKIA. See rules on page 41, Universal rules ed March 21.
I don’t think you’re correct if I understand what you’re saying about replacing a suppressed marker with a KIA marker. You’d only do that if there were no more empty reticles. For example, if a two reticle hostile had one suppressed marker and an empty reticle, if you got a KIA, you’d add the KIA marker to the empty reticle, you wouldn’t replace the suppression marker.
Thanks for your input Jordan! It kinda felt like things were turning sour from the start. Spawning 6 squads (!) of enemies in the first location. Then later on having both a truck and officer spawning even more. I think I'll try to wait some turns and play safer locations in my next game.
