It was another world of different and rare pastime or sport! Local residents could just find a way to adapt to or even take full advantage to enjoy it. (When excluding surrounding and atmosphere, would Winter be similar to Autumn for frozen ice as far as temperature was the only concern, I supposed!?)
Thanks for the comment! In the autumn scenes of this video, the thickness of the ice was 5-6 cm. The ice thickens considerably during the winter (by about 50 cm) and also gets a snow cover.
Great skating videos! As a Dutch I’m pretty jealous! In the Netherlands we barely have cold winters making skating on natural ice possible. Two weeks ago we had a “hick-up” which resulted in skating on flooded land..😉However, in two weeks I ll be in Sweden, looking forward to it very much…
Wonderful beauty! Do you have circular routes? Or is there a pickup team waiting for you at the end of the route? all routes without night? for one day?
why are you all wearing these heavy backpacks? seems counter intuitive, like okay one or two bringing some supplies for the trip but all seems a bit overkill. would be grateful for an answer.
This is an excellent question! When including the essentials such as a dry bag with a full set of spare clothes, another change of thick socks and gloves, a rescue rope, ice claws, repair tools, a thermos, a down jacket for breaks, the base weight of my waterproof backpack (without food and drinks) is about 5.5 kilograms. I don't find it very heavy. The backpacks look quite bulgy because we don't compress air out of the dry bags (inside the backpacks). We do this as a safety measure, because a dry bag containing air will float a skater who has fallen into the water through the weak ice. The buoyant effect of the backpack makes it easier to get out of the water back onto the ice.
Of course, to take full advantage of the backpack's buoyant effect, the backpack needs to have a crotch strap (like a life jacket) to prevent the backpack from riding up the skater's back when in the water. EDIT: Replaced "leg loops" with "crotch strap".
So most of the weight comes from being prepared for the skater falling through the ice, although that is quite rare among Nordic skaters who have undergone the local club's safety training.
The smell of freshness and peace passes through the screen.
Thanks a lot! 🙏 I am satisfied that the video can convey these genuine sensations. 😊
Пожалуйста еще видео! С Новым Годом и Рождеством!
Jarkko, thank you for these amazing videos. Hope your channel is seen and loved all over the world. 🌎
Wow, thank you! 😊
In the northern USA the lakes freeze but then get covered with snow.
😍 Виды потрясающе, красота 👍🔥

Thanks for watching. 😊 Skating on flooded land sounds fun! ⛸ There is no danger of sinking deep into the ice. Have a good trip to Sweden! 🙌
Nice video! Beautiful Nature!
Thanks! 🙏
Здорово!)
Fin film, Såg härligt ut.
Tack så mycket!
Is it possible for a tourist to rent these kind of skates over there
At least here in Tampere (Finland) there are two tracks on natural ice, which are maintained by companies that rent equipment.

Both! Mostly we return to the same point where we started. However, with good planning, downwind trips are very enjoyable.

@@nordiciceskaterThis makes so much sense. I didn’t ask the question but I appreciate the answer. Thank you.
It looks strange. Where is snow?
In the autumn scenes, the lakes have just frozen over. The snowfalls are coming soon. ❄️
Suomalaisilla on jopa järvijäätä lämmitetty, jotta lunta ei kerry⛷😊
Moi. Missä asut ? Se on kaunis paikka 👍
Hei! Videot tällä kanavalla ovat eteläisestä Suomesta.
What in the backpack? Spare clothes in case the ice breaks?
