Honestly, it has nothing to do with the Princess being a patron of the NPG, it's more that the royal family have an exhibition of images up right now and this is M and H trying to compete (and failing) It's one thing to take a gift of a photo print, it's another if the museum buys the work because it feels its important to add to the collection. Anyone can gift anything to a museum.

That picture by Herriman has no connection to anything, or context. And it has no connection to the cooking show, which I doubt she’s really gonna be cooking in, anyways, because she’ll be busy talking about herself.
I checked the website and the national gallery is pushing to include diversity in their displays and lists other subjects along with Meghan. The problem is that there isn’t a celebration or media launch for anyone else, so why would they do it now? It would reek of favoritism. The BEST thing to do is NO REPLY.

Because The South Parkles are stalkers who gaslight to the extreme. They chose Save the Children because Anne, the Princess Royal is Patron. HRH Catherine POW is patron of the National Gallery. The purchased awards are the same story: "Living Legend" because PW is the actual helicopter pilot, etc. From what I read, MH wasn't even a photographer until 2018-219. He has a shady past, as well. A museum sometimes accepts gifts, this was gifted as a stunt, doesn't mean it will go on display or even be kept in the collection, works are 'de-accessioned' all the time.
