Thanks for this. I worked in Tunbridge Wells for 10yrs 1990-2000 and made the walk from the station to the Pantiles every day. I’ve not been back there for 24yrs so it was nice to see it all again. I recognised only a handful of shops & restaurants, everything else had gone! I can’t ever remember the Pantiles looking so busy, they’ve really added a lot of stuff.
Another interesting thing to remember is that the River Grom, which is now underground but flows right through the town, formed the boundary between Kent and Sussex until the 1890s and now forms the boundary between the Recognised Historic Counties of Kent and Sussex although the modern ceremonial and administrative boundary between County of Kent and the County of East Sussex is found outside the town because although having the modern boundary run right down through the Pantilles and having Tunbridge Wells West station in Sussex would be really cool it is of course impractical to have one town in two counties like this and thus for ceremonial *and* governmental purposes, and as far as I can tell in their hearts and minds, the town is fully Kentish but historically it was split!
Glad you enjoyed it. Not sure I spotted Simmonds. Is it a department store? So many old school independent dept. stores survive in towns around Kent. I’m always amazed in this time of chains (which themselves keep failing).
Ya hi Gav It's a bit small town Used to live in here Now Ipswich Suffolk 🇬🇧🇬🇧 T()nbridge well Got 4* from me The #trafficwardens Are a joke! For sssstrart
Great video! I'm leaving London to move to Tunbridge Wells next month and I absolutely love this town! If you don't mind me asking, what camera did you use to film this?
Thank you and welcome to Kent! Love your channel by the way. I use a bunch of different kit, as my main hobby seems to be buying tech. Can't remember what I used here, but will put together a list and share on the channel sometime soon. Was wondering if anyone would be interested so I'll use your question as motivation!
@@walkingworld6441 Thank you! Love your channel too! Okay no problem I'll keep an eye out for that video! Curious to find out! Just subscribed to your channel btw 😊

Add to that fact the bridge that crosses the river Grom at Groombridge the county line actually divides the bridge into two.
I miss that place so much ❤️
Did you live locally? Tunbridge Wells is one of my favourite places to visit for a nice day out. 👍 Hope you enjoyed seeing it again!

Great video. my family all live near there and my husband and I are hoping to move back there soon from Suffolk.
Suffolk is beautiful too. We love Beccles and Southwold. Tunbridge Wells is a bit less sleepy though! Glad you enjoyed seeing it again. 👍👍
