Mapping Tonga: Bringing Google Street View to the Pacific Kingdom

- From urban sprawls, to mountain peaks, to the International Space Station, Google Street View has captured some pretty spectacular places, however much of the South Pacific remains unmapped. Grid Pacific is an organization started by Tania Wolfgramm and Wikuki Kingi who hope to put all of the Pacific Islands countries into Google Street View. In this short documentary watch as they return to Tania's homeland, The Kingdom of Tonga, a country of 169 islands, 36 of which are inhabited, and begin their mapping journey.

The reason you did this was beautiful. My Dad went to the Tonga Islands in 1944 in the war and always wanted to go back. He passed since then but I wish I could have shown him this and we could have watched it together. I have decided to come to Tonga and will be there in April to see for myself this land and the ocean. Thanks for the preview.

and that is why they call it a kingdom but mainly cause king Tupou fought everyone in Tonga and won so he was doubt King of Tonga and they called a Kingdom referring to Lions because Lions fight for power and that exactly what King Tupou did for ruler of Tongan hence why Tonga is a Kingdom.

HOLY MOLY! I am so excited that this is happening and can't wait for vava'u to be available on google street view. The company I work for are managing a project on the island at the moment but due to border restrictions we are having to rely heavily on internet resources to get a feel for the island. Google street view would be a Huge help for us. Thanks so much to that sister who is putting vava'u on the map. When we will the images be uploaded to google for public access?
