Been rowing for 5 years now absolutely love it I do 8km 5 days a week, the best difference I've noticed is within that time my resting heart has gone from in the 70s to now low 40s its consistently between 40-45bpm, I've built alot of muscle tone aswel but for me I prefer the results from the inside rather than the outside, longevity is my goal and rowing is within my soul 🤣🤣
#getfitwithrowalong first time I have ever felt committed to using the erg consistently (rather than when I just felt I was not getting enough cardio), really enjoying this series, especially on these long rows that otherwise would be boring
Oh wow! Thanks so much for leaving this message. It really does mean a lot that you say you're enjoying rowing along with this series. All the fluff and grandure about technique etc is all secondary to just wanted to get people to enjoy rowing.
@@rowalong I can never hear too much re: technique or form whether erg or resistance training (especially when including muscles activated to get at the "why" of technique). . . plus your tangents are entertaining and keep me from counting minutes. IMO so much better than just plugging into a sound track
Another great workout and I think you chatting and explaining various techniques really helps the time pass quicker. Thanks again. RowAlong Treasure Hunt 😊
Thanks John. Just done this and row 2 yesterday. Feeling much more focused now I’m following a plan again. Let us know when your ship is back online. Think I need a new T-shirt :)
I will do. The old shop is still theer (rowalong.com/shop) but everything it marked as out of stock for the time being. If you really want one of them, let me know and I can still sort the order manually.
#getfitwithrowalong Today only 7,034m, but it was a good session. Especially, that yesterday I cycled some 50 km. First time such a distance since like 20 years. And it was a relative piece of cake - thanks to rowing sessions I did with you! At the finish of my ride I even climbed the uphills my lungs burned from just watching at them. They shown surprisingly easy to climb. When I felt, that I am at my limit - I remembered your words - you can manage, don't get cheated by your brain. Thank you for your guidance!
#getfitwithrowalong Another good workout. Improvements will be seen, either by seeing increased distance, or increased avg power while maintaining the same heart rate. Aiming for the 7 step Max HR test at the end of next week.
#getfitwithrowalong After yesterday's intense workout (Get Fit 2), this seemed like a walk in the park, but..... my HR was still in zone 3 and 4. I'm attributing this to the fact that I'm old and out of shape. I could chat and wasn't panting like a madman like I was yesterday. I'm bookmarking this workout, and will come back in mid-June to try it again, hopefully with my HR in zone 2 this time. Saving my pennies to perhaps purchase a better rower by the end of the year. Really enjoying these whole body workouts w/ CV benefits.
Is as advertised...low intensity. I do like the way the session was broken up with the drills...and definitely made it easier to keep the HR low (perfectly so!).
@rowalong Weren’t you way outside of Zone 2 here John? The HRs and % you were stating would put your max close to 200bpm. Row 2 you said 174 as your max I think and your graphic from then showed zone 2 topping out at about 120 not the 136 you were at here. Reason I ask is I think my max is similar to yours at 175 so I’m trying to stay under 122 for Zone 2 but thinking maybe I’m going wrong somewhere.
Absolutely - an it's the 'danger' with me putting the metrics up for all to see. This is the pace I would normally row this session at and stay in Zone 2. However, because I'm talking the whole way through, it does put a larger toll on my CV system - and therefore, heart rate is higher. I know it would be more credible to drop the intensity by another 5 seconds so I can talk and stay in Zone 2 - but there are 2 sides to this. 1) I still want to get a workout myself while making these - and 2) As much as I'm preaching to stay in Zone 2 in order to GET fit, once you acheive a level of fitness you're happy with - you can kinda bend the rules a little bit, and pop into Zone 3. But I don't want to say that in the videos, as I know all people will hear is "If you want to bend the rules, it's okay to row in Zone 3". Remember, this series is "Get Fit" - not "Get Fitter". That said, the introduction video I've written for this series does cover the difference, as I know there's some muddy areas here.
Right now. It’s either my Apple Watch or a MyZone switch that I use. Usually the switch, but sometimes I forget and I’m too lazy to go back to find it!
Great starting point for a 63 year old beginner 👍
Great starting point for a 36 year old too!
Nice drills row. good to practice the Hang at the catch. Thanks for the row John and see yah on the next one. #getfitwithrowalong.

I think you echo a lot of people here. Once you fall in love with rowing, it really stays with you and gives you so much back.

After a week on the open roads with the motorcycle THIS was the perfect comeback! Thank you!
It’s my pleasure. Sounds like a great trip though!
Thanks John! Liked the breaks w arms and legs only. #getfitwithrowalong.
thanks for all these videos.l learn a lot and they help get through my cardio.
Love this plan. Fits perfectly with my busy summer schedule and fitness. Averaging two a week. I hope that’s still of some value??

#getfitwithrowalong nice recovery row after yesterday's high intensity, with a bit of a twist with the drill's 👍
John, please never stop talking 😂
Haha. I don’t think that’ll happen any time soon.
@@rowalong No, I didn’t think so!

#GetFitWithRowAlong. I have all of the low intensity rows done to get back on the rower. I’m now doing the entire set of sessions to Get Fit.
Good workout. Nice to see some alfresco and you garden looks fine.
Thanks. It’s lovely to see green coming back on the plants and trees!
#getfitwithrowalong great plan, interesting trying to maintain heart rate vs speed or stroke rate.
Needed a gentle session after session 2! Cheers John. #getfitwithrowalong

Struggled to get my HR into Z5. Still knackered though!
Hopefully you're commenting on the wrong video, as this wasn't a Zone 5 row!
#getfitwithrowalong. Need to time my sessions better. Did row 2 early evening yesterday and row 3 early morning today. My body hadn’t quite recovered.
Quality content!
Thank you!!!
A proper row 😊
Haha, yes. Long sloggy and effective.
5953m covered including the drills 👍👊 #getfitwithrowalong
#getfitwithrowing #jeopardy really enjoyed this session 😊
It "hurts" a little to see the average pace go up so much during the drills, but it won't hurt fitness building and keeps it entertaining. 😂 #jeopardy

What are you using for a heart rate monitor?
