I think this would work so well as an audio book with either the author himself or Mark Rylance reading it. I struggled with the Amazon free sample online but the spoken word brings it to life.

This novel is tremendous... it takes a little work to read by is by no means impenetrable... I found that about a third of the way through I had internalized to "dialect" that Kingsnorth created.... to anyone on the fence-- Go for it!... you will be so glad you did

Except for the fact it is entirely insulting to the English and anyone who pays attention can tell it is just a satire of the Brexit movement.

A wonderful book with an appreciation for oral language.

Robert Eggers would direct the heck out of this, if it were ever made a film. 🤞🏼

Best Booktrailer ever! Sounds really interessting. Wonder if I can easily read it, as I'm not a native speaker of english, although I speak other germanic languages.

    What is a foggol/foghol... vogol?
    Can someone help.
I got the audiobook but not the text so I can't at the moment get the spelling to look it up.
    Thanks..

interesting! Has this ever been translated? If yes in what languages? Is it even possible to translate this?

    • @lostuser1094

nino71 not really sure, I suppose it'd have to be translated to the protoplasmic version of whatever language it's in. Shadowtounge Gaulish for example.

The language is a barrier, it forces too many re-reads and much doubt if one really understood what one read and or skipping over whole passages simply because it was not understood at all. I think it was unnecessarily cumbersome but I understand why it was employed.

A very wonderful book. Buckmaster is truly pathetic [spoiler]. I am Buckmaster :)
