    This is easily among the most horrific and heartbreaking betrayals I’ve ever heard.

    She needed almost 4 years of therapy to come to terms with it. This is what her lawyer said in an interview on the BBC. Then, when she was ready they proceeded with the trial!

      There have been a few more arrests since this case came to court. Their first names and initial of their family names have been published. One man has fled the country, but there's no country where he can be sure of being safe.

      We humans are all capable of evil. It's why we have laws, why we have religions, why we have heroes. We're also capable of great compassion, great generosity, great courage, and great capacity for deciding not to be evil. It's all human.

    A lot of women who do come forward, at least in the US, end up vilified in the press and blamed for their victimization.

    I wonder-surely there were men who when they arrived and saw what this was had objections to it and left? Why did none of them report it? Thank goodness France had laws that allowed seizure of his devices.

    • @AmateurHistorian999
      @AmateurHistorian999 14 годин тому

      @r8chlletters I doubt it. The men met through a website -- not even on the dark web, open to anyone -- that was specifically for men with rape fantasies that they'd nurtured for years. That's what they talked about on the site, and Dominique chose his wife's rapists from those men. Could be that a few of them backed off when they saw Gisele and were smacked with the reality of what they were about to do, but I imagine there weren't many.
      I study ethics and conscience, so this case doesn't really surprise me. I know too much about what (mostly) men can do and have done. But that understanding is in my head. In my body, my gut, my soul, I don't understand how men can do such nearly unspeakable things.
      Mme Pelicot is a genuine hero. Her grit and poise astonish me more than the assaults.

      Only one left but he did not report. The title of the group chat was:"without her consent". It's pretty clear. Moreover in France we don't juge rape like in the US. A couple of years ago one french juge was caught trying to sell his granddaughter virginity online but he did not spend one day behind bars. Only probation. This is France.

      @@veramae4098 If they had spent the same amount of time on the case of every defendant as they usually do in regular raape trial the trial would have lasted at least 3 more months. But this would have made the trial much more expensive and the french ministry of justice did not grant them the necessary funds. This is quite ironic considering that the defense of women was supposed to be one of the main causes of the presidency of Emmanuel Macron
