Based on all the stuff Phil's been doing on the web, he currently is golf's best ambassador.
His commentary in matches and interviews is refreshing... and what a great golfer.

Phil, is so correct, the PGA is US centric, LIV is global, Asian tour sponsored by LIV’s owners and has Bryson playing this week, is in India, its used as a feeder tour to LIV. I have watched every LIV event, ad free on YT, and you have live comments and talk with viewers globally, its a blast

The Asian tour is really good now with a lot of the LIV players playing certain events

Phil has truly been remarkable. The way he goes from big picture, to making great videos, to competing, to having a great relationship with his wife and kids. He truly is such a remarkable man and with Greg moving on, this is the golfer leader for evolution in golf for at least the next decade or so.
To his point a lot of the tv contracts are until 2030. The full transition Phil is talking about kind of needs that time to come.
Hopefully it all comes together sooner somehow. But his timeline I very much agree with.

We went to the LIV event in Dallas in September '24 with 4 kids. My wife was thinking we would just stay for 2 or 3 hours, but there was so much to do that everyone was having fun and we stayed even after the golf ended.

Thanks to Phil for being brave enough to make the move and see the long term big picture for the players. Initially he took a tough hit from Sponsors etc. So many were opposed to anything that competed with the PGA Tour. He is indeed a great ambassador and gentlemen.

PGA gives Tiger millions with PIP award for promoting golf. Greg Norman or even Bryson have promoted golf more than Tiger has. PGA mission is strictly domestic. LIV is more forward thinking and has a more global mission. Why is NFL playing games overseas? F1 is popular and global. Soccer is global except in the US. MLB has the world baseball classic. LIV haters don’t get that PGA is the one that is holding back golf because it wants the monopoly.

Phil, who probably always was an interesting and engaging person, was bottled up by the PGA tour and the media to make seem a specific way. Now with LIV and his full on move into social media, Phil has been able to show a very likable, engaging and interesting person. Go Lefty!

Yep I’m a member of your golf club. I have 52 years of golf experience and UA-cam golf is not only entertaining, it’s mind expanding. I learn more about the game watching and listening to it than televised tour golf hands down.

The LPGA showed the PGA how to do it, and they were ignored. Golf is a global sport and forcing the best to play mainly in USA was always going to change. PGA players have always decided what events they play, and LIV then forced that to change - and it is going to change a lot more. I am in late 60s and I love LIV - PGA golf is mainly boring and Rory is a tosser.

All sounds fantastic. Global game, top players every week, sponsors know what to expect, national teams, Formula 1 model, getting to know the players, You tube connection to bring the average age of spectator down from 60, off season. PGA 52 week calendar has been damaging to golf in Europe and Australia.

I like the direction LIV is going with naming Rick Shiels an ambassador, content creater, interviewer. It will absolutely bring the younger UA-cam audience into LIV. The PGA should take notice and do the same thing with the Bryan Brothers as ambassadors and PGA content creators.

Wow so the PGA made Phil pay millions of dollars for media rights for himself and he had to pay to commentate.. what a joke. Anyone who is a fan of UA-cam golf should be team LIV. I bet 99% of the people who were negatively commenting on Rick Shiels' video don't know about that.

Golf is in real trouble. First, the PGA Tour is not perfect and there are many things that they could change that would make them a better product. LIV can buy players, but it can't buy an audience. LIV will never get the TV ratings or fan attendance numbers the PGA Tour got at its peak, which never was a lot anyway compared to the NFL, which gets ten times the viewers. Golf is a niche sport, with a relatively small audience. TGL and LIV will eventually fail because they are niche diversions of a niche sport. LIV may survive because they don't care about ratings or making a profit since they're using a bottomless pit of Monopoly money. Time will tell if the PGA Tour can survive all of this, Here's hoping that they can.

100% Saudis totally over invested, they'll never get their money back and even for them it's not sustainable. The team thing is a joke, faked up and won't ever take off. PGA are doomed, a terrible sports product. Ultimately, golf is a dreadful spectator sport but no one wants endless ads either. Ultimately, it's not just a popular enough sport to generate the kind of money LIV have elevated it to. Thank god it's a brilliant game to play!

I was thinking of a Bryson John Rahm match. It would be at Olympia Fields Golf Club. The match that did not happen because Derrick Bard beat John Rahm in the 2015 U.S.G.A. am. Tournament. In fact bring Scotty, and Colin Morikowa also because they played in that tournament. I think that would be fun.

I’ll be 55 this year…. Always watch the “5’ majors and a few others…. Right or wrong ….. LIV or pga …. The “split” has left me very uninterested in golf. Greed on every level …. I’m very comfortable and always updated my equipment…. No more. Settled in on what makes golf fun and gonna stick with that. Will still watch the majors …. But more so I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the lpga tour last year…. It seems universal.

The PGA tour is boring....Sheffler is great, McIlroy, Morikawa, too. Not sure of any I'd tune into on a Thursday-Saturday of a regular tournament...yawning.. Go Phil and Bryson!!

If Phil thinks LIV has the best format, I wonder if he thinks that the Majors should go to no cut 54 hole formats with music and a team aspect? If he did that, I would believe him. But the biggest tournaments in pro golf, he wants them to stay with the PGA Tour format. Interesting.

  • @russellkempe3231

This evolution Phil talks about may or may NOT happen. I think the PGA Tour needs to cut at least 10 tournaments from their schedule. There are so many events where the top Players are MIA, so why will people keep buying tickets and supporting them..

Totally Disagree! LIV is growing the game of golf. I watch 4 majors and all the LIV events. I even have attended the Miami and Nashville events in 2024. I watch LIV on UTube or the LIV app. I can watch at whatever time I want and can pause and most importantly I do not have to watch commercials! Not sure if that last part will change in the future with Fox coming aboard. Cheers!
