Circumcision was of the flesh but the true circumcision is from the heart. We have receive a new heart trough being born from the most high. The promess of the covenant to Abraham was that ALL NATIONS WILL BE BLESS TROUGH HIM ! This is the circumcision of the heart not of the flesh....

God commanded the people of Israel to be circumcised to differentiate them from among the rest of the surrounding nations, and as a covenant with Him, as His people. It was symbol of removing the "leftover bad flesh" and you were to follow His law, the ceremonial law. This is ALL outwardly and it was a shadow of what was coming, Jesus Christ.
Those outside Israel, that feared Him, and wanted to follow Him and His law, they needed to be circumcised to be part of His people, they were called Proselytes.
FAST FORWARD to the New Covenant, the one that Jesus Christ sealed with His blood this is no longer a commandment, we don't follow the law, we follow Jesus Christ and His commandments. We ar not to circumcised our children, this is mutilation and we are to instruct then in the ways of the Lord and teach them to fear Him and because that's the beginning of wisdom.

So why is it that God judges the city of Hamor and Shechem by the hand of Levi when all of the males were circumcised as recorded in Genesis 34?
Circumcision is directly related to the covenant. Any body could be circumcised. The circumcision is the SIGN of the covenant. Hamor and Shechem were circumcised but had no part in the COVENANT.

I'm baffled that the most enlightened, most intelligent, and most benevolent being in the Universe required his followers to cut off the tips of their wiIIies. The bible also says that God got so angry with Moses because he didn't circumcise his son, that he tried to kill him. Do people really believe this stuff? What am I missing here?

@Narayana 69, while I agree that religious liberty is fundamental to a free society, there are overriding concerns here. In ancient Judaism, circumcision was not even done the same way it is done today in modern America. The Jewish Encyclopedia itself CONFIRMS AND ADMITS that the Jewish rabbis changed circumcision to be the "laying bare of the glans" we have today.
Furthermore, in a large sense, we violate the religious freedom of that infant child by circumcising him on the 8th day. He alone should make that decision later on in life when he is old enough to decide for himself. You are very wrong when you say that those of us trying to ban infant circumcision are hateful toward Jews! That is absolutely not the case with me and millions of others. I was brought up as a Sabbatarian Christian, one who observed Shabat in harmony with Judaism and did not eat the "unclean" meats. I still honor the Sabbath, but in the NEW covenant way Jesus and his disciples taught us in the NEW testament. The Apostle Paul called circumcision MUTILATION in Philippians 3:2, and no Christians anywhere in the world practiced circumcision for over 1,800 years until quack doctors and theologians, such as John Harvey Kellogg, inventor of Corn Flakes, began to teach that circumcision was a cure for masturbation.
The Jewish people NO LONGER slay animals in the temple. They should no longer circumcise either as circumcision was also a BLOOD SACRIFICE FOR SIN. Exodus 4:24-26 tells us that - Zipporah interceded for Moses or the Lord would have slain him for his failure to circumcise their son. Circumcision of the FLESH under the OLD covenant became circumcision of the HEART under the NEW covenant. That is the teaching of Christianity. I urge you to open your mind to the truth and re-study the whole issue. May God (Yahweh) bless you.
@Narayana 69 You seem to IGNORE the FACT that Jewish rabbis CHANGED their method of circumcision in about 130 A.D. to be the "laying bare of the glans." Read the article here in the Jewish Encyclopedia that readily admits this as fact and other sources show it is true, even in the "between-the-testament" book of Maccabees about the captivity into Babylon alludes to this and Josephus also talks about a gymnasium built so Jews could participate in athletic games with Greeks. www.jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/4391-circumcision
Furthermore, you need to more carefully read the provisions of the Abrahamic covenant. It states that the covenant is everlasting, it does NOT state that PHYSICAL circumcision is everlasting. Physical circumcision was the sign of the Abrahamic covenant, not its ESSENCE, huge difference! Read what the covenant really was that "all nations of the earth would be blessed through Abraham." If you are an OLD covenant believer, you probably don't accept that Jesus was the fulfilling of the covenant. that's how all nations of the earth have been blessed.
Lastly, you ignore that an infant child should be making the decision about whether he wants HEALTHY parts of his body removed for no reason. If he believes God (Yahweh) wants him to have the "laying bare of the glans," not even the way God ordered it, he should make that decision when he is old enough to decide.

Ishmael was circumcised. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and their wives were Syrian (Deuteronomy 26:5). Abraham married an Arabian called Keturah and had six sons (Genesis 25:1-3) these came to be the sons of Rechab who have the promise there will always be a man of Rechab standing before my Elohim forever Jeremiah 35:19. Why don't you take serous note of Exodus 32:10 when God told Moses to let him be that he would exterminate the whole of Israel for they were a stiff necked people and make a kingdom from Moses and Zipporah his Arabian wife whose progeny served as chieftains over the stores and over the treasures of the things made holy to Yahveh my God as appointed during the reign of King David 1 Chronicles 26:24-26.

Not only did you not give any actual reason why god would tell us to circumcise ourselves, you conveniently forgot the period between 0 A.D. and ~1850 A.D. where Christians being circumcised wasn’t common practice at all, it was left to the Jews and Muslims.
At no point have you said why.

God doesn't recognize the circumcision of the flesh. Yehweh has no respect for those that harm children. This is why circumcision outside of medical necessity is forbidden in Christianity. Paul spoke very clearly on the matter.
Paul didn't forbid circumcision. He only taught it is not necessary to be Christian. Jews were claiming it was.
Aren’t we supposed to keep the temple pure no tattoos so on and so forth, so How cutting off part that was given to you by so-called God be wrong or be right?

@@lifewasgiventous1614 That’s great. Of course, just because you don’t consciously remember something doesn’t mean it wasn’t painful or hasn’t affected you. The fact is that ‘circumcision’ without proper anaesthetic is extremely painful and traumatic, and it destroys up to half the skin system of the penis, which is functional erogenous tissue (so much for intelligent design). Also, not everything is about you; many boys and men have been damaged by ‘circumcision’.

My son was circumcised and he didn't even care. Hell, he's gone through far worse pain passing gas...90% of the developed world is circumcised and its success rate is through the roof... the doctor who did it said she has been doing roughly four to five a day for twenty years...the hospital staff also recommended it as well as several various health organizations such as the cdc for hygienic reasons, and up to a 50% decreased risk for penile cancer, you don't know what you are talking about...just wanting to bitch about something and happened to be an atheist.

circumcision keeps you healthy . Reduces risks of STDS and kills all bacteria and germs hiding under the foreskin proved by health experts !!
Not to mention I know people who have ripped their four skin in half during sex..which is much more painful when you are an adult or young teen..at 8 days it’s basically less than a fingernail of skin...

He is Jewish. What do you expect? They are forced to come up with anything and everything to protect their ridiculous things in their faith. I have no issue with Hebrews however. But the Jewish faith does have a lot of craziness in it.
