Definitely fully modernized. I grew up with the classics, but the level of detail now in sets is preferred. Great builds!
This is an interesting idea. Personally, I would prefer the larger and more modernized version over simply updating the set with newer pieces. I'm also not sure how marketable instructions would be if all you did was update the existing set with newer parts, as LEGO provides free instructions for all sets (including vintage sets), and so there probably would not be a lot of incentive to buy instructions that are very similar to the free instructions.
I prefer the first draft that you showed. I'd keep the 4 wide planes, but id enclose the terminal and add the modern elements like the solar panels im draft 2. The shape of draft 1, but the modern elements of draft 2 would be perfect!
This is awesome. I think there is likely demand for both the revised classic edition and the remastered modern edition of this old set. Personally, I would opt for the modern version shown as that fits best into my lego city, but I'm certain others would enjoy the nostalgia blast that accompanies the classic version.
It all depends on whether it would be detrimental to offer both instructions, as you essentially split your sales in two, with some customers opting for one or the other (or both!), as opposed to offering only one and thus excluding a percentage of buyers who are only interested in the one you don't list.
I imagine boiling your ventures down to consumer demands and the financial side isn't your primary focus, but hope the above helps! I'd love to see both offered, to both maximise revenue and customer satisfaction. Keep up the good work! 👍🏼
This set is cool
I think the more modern airport is better
I recently got the vintage playable soccer court set for a good price.
The new airplane set is better than the past few ones
However i wish lego made airplane and airport sets were accurate to real life airplanes and with realistic control towers.
There should be a Lego City for Adults theme that would have:
Realistic Lego houses fully enclosed, nice size for $100-200, and smaller one also.
Mini modulars (fully enclosed)
Module parts of a house/apartment, similar to the Hogwarts Castle sets system
Realistic cars (similar to the vintage taxi and moving truck gwps), but like ones that people have nowadays, like the new mini Land Rover set
Realistic vehicles like airplanes, helicopters, boats, trucks, etc.
I feel like $500 for this set brand new is not that bad. This is an amazing set and I remember wanting this as a kid even though even at that time it was already at least a decade old. It just has so much of that Lego charm.
More planes please! Also I preferred both but mostly modern
Definitely fully modernized!!
I'm very thankful that 10-11 year old me spotted this set at Toys R Us and convinced my parents to get it. Zero regrets, an all time favorite, and timeless set. I wish the modern waves could keep up, but curves.
Modern, old lego is fantastic but those days are done, nostalgic sets sit on display, not integrated amongst cities. Four wide look like tiny borrowers amongst six wide standards. Cant have an airport terminal smaller then ice cream truck
I would prefer the more modern feel but something that feels complete but isn’t too big so it doesnt cost 1000s
Hey Afol what program do u use to create models? 😄
This set from 2004 was an update to the same airport set from the mid 1990s. I received the original set in 1996.
Funnily enough, mid-'90s LEGO are from when I was a kid, and I'm deeply reluctant to refer to any toy from the '90s as "vintage", yet Mr. & Mrs. AFOL-TV don't seem to have a problem with referring to toys from when they were kids - back in the mid aughties, according to him - as "vintage". Go figure, eh?
This is a good set. Nice video
Surprisingly enough, these old sets are still available in Australia. Just bought 10 of them.( Never been opened), out of children's box company ( near Sydney),$200.00 u s dollar plus $193.00 shipping. They took almost a month to get here. USPS delivery.
You can probably flip those for a lot of money. These sets are only going to get more rare as the years go by.
Probably won't. I never sell my collection.
I went to BrickLink and made that 'funky' helicopter in white/black. Cost me around a hundred dollars (yes, JUST for the helicopter) because I wanted new pieces and, yes, many are retired.
That’s actually a LEGO legends version of the 1994 century skyway rereleased in 2004 as LEGO city airport. By far LEGOs most complete airport either version 94 or 04
I like the updated version, but the control tower needs to be fixed. The palm trees need to be the 2563 base plus the 30239 leaves and maybe the 6064 bush. Also wouldn't the 16x16 plates be more expensive? Usually they go for a lot more then the baseplates. Unless you out source to strictly bricks which might be an option. Either way I think it's a good venture for you as well as us!
Oh, what a cool set! I would kill to have LEGO make stuff like this today.
I had this 💝
If your goal is highlight or honor a throwback, option 1 is the best because it still displays the visualization of simplify of the old sets while being adapted to todays parts. This sounds closer to what you described as you partnership. If just to completely refresh a lego set option 2 is beautiful, but takes too much of a transformative change. If I looked at it, I wouldn't make the connection without an explanation. I just assume you built an airport.
I would try to update as much as I could without removing the integrity of the original build. Kind of what historic buildings do.
It’s funny to me you would use the Land Rover as a size comparison because it’s actually smaller then a lot of LEGO vehicles today😂
DUDE! I had this as my first set, I found it at a garage sale and it was like 15 bucks. I’ve lost so many pieces since then but this is such a nostalgic video. I was shocked when this popped up, I hadn’t seen it in such a long time!
I have a bunch of all sets, which I am considering modernizing, so it would be awesome to have ideas or instructions for that. Though there are very select sets, mostly train, pirate, and castle sets that I did not get in the 80s and 90s, that I would love to recreate with modern bricks.
The older style. I have most of the parts from an old emergency center/hospital from the 80's love that old style. The original old airport also reminded me of the house I had. Love you videos
The tail of the plane could really use some work (edit I like both but if I had to choose I’d choose the newer but if you’re hard core Lego fan idk I can’t choose)
Thanks for giving me the inspiration to learn bricklink studio
On your Website can you say around how much each build costs to build?
I remember always seeing this set sold at Target in like a giant gift style basket. I of course always wanted this set as a kid but sadly never got it. Now I need it as an adult
I like the modern version but I think there should be some road baseplates bc it will be morgen but still having the same vibe ass the old one but still a great build keep up the good work and I love ur plane builds
When you said you hate the new one it’s not bad it’s because it’s a bird airline and that’s how some old real plane are
I think the larger modern idea works best for me ty
Wow. Where did you buy it from???
For sure the modernized version.
I would prefer more modern stuff
Modern builds please!
This was the biggest set I got as a kid and I absolutely loved it. Still have it stored.
always its fun to make new versions or give a personal touch, i made the same with some speed champs i shortened keeping the shape and color
Simple but great!
Newer airport is better
Both!
In my opinion totally worth it.
