Main reason 3rd brake light was replaced from stock to LED is because it was leaking really bad leaving smell and stains in the truck. Also LED makes it look cool!
You skip the most important part and that was the install of the new light connection, they don't fit unless you have to remove something or push hard and easy.
Just a heads up , my 3rd Brake lights gaskets leaked on my 2004 F150 and a friend of mine instead of spending money on a new light just because of a failed foam gasket . I came across an awesome suggestion from someone who was nice enough to post his solution to the problem which was to go to Home Depot and purchase a pkg of 3 16 th Closed Cell Foam Stripping with the adhesive backing. All I did was carefully removed the old OEM gasket then I cleaned the area with Rubbing Alcohol . I cut the new Closed Cell gasket strip to length and carefully applied to the original 3rd Brake light housing with having the 2 ends meet at the middle of the bottom of the housing and reinstalled using a screwdriver being carefull not to over tighten and then by collapsing the new gasket foam more than necessary . Save some Money...
My lights are fine on my 2004, very slight leak if it rains hard. However, a strong wind ripped off the clear plastic cover and it broke. All I need is the cover!! Can't find one anywhere.
Hey I have a question, I purchased the same light and Im having trouble installing it, it wont go into the plastic part easy. Its kind of like im stuffing it and its still not fitting. I ended up taping it. Was I supposed to take something else out. Like other than the light bulb......
Hi Keneisha Johnson, once you take the bulb out of the socket there nothing else to take out. Led connectors should plug right in. Which of the connector you had trouble with?
So basically if the third brake light leaks then you get water on the inside of the truck? I ask cuz I have a explorer sport trac with a similar design and I have lots of water coming in at the rear.

Cal Wilson thanks for sharing this suggestion. In my case, I found some inexpensive 3rd brake light LED online so I wanted to upgrade.
You are quite welcome ... Happy New Year ...
I did something similar, except I used silicone. A bit messy though.

The whole assembly is like 23 bucks for OEM halogen on Amazon.
Anyone know what size the 2 screws holding the assembly in
what you gonna do with the old one?
Mine came only with the center cable 🙁
No way I'm using a drill because the plastic is very fragile. Hand tighten with screwdriver only.
