Actually there called the shadow dragons also called kage or Yami dragon from negative energy of the originals syn shenron, haze shenron, eis shenron, nuova shenron, rage shenron, Oceanus shenron, naturon shenron, combined form super yi xi long. After that the black star dragon are called the ultimate dragon balls
I kinda love how Bulma basically went mad with power. This is the same woman who was gonna wish for strawberries in the original after all. And Piccolo's frustration with Bulma was really funny, you can tell that was his Kami side speaking.

Gamma 2 literally became one of my very favorite characters in dragonball just with this short time on screen. Seriously that's impressive that gamma 2 made such an impact on so many people for being in a movie only.
Dbs has a good habit of introducing characters and making them have a large impact on the story in just one arc. The more people see this movie in theaters instead of in 100p on a laptop, the more they’ll appreciate it
He’s so adorable. You can just tell he’s a good bean. Love his visual effects, but when it was time to be serious, he was serious and it just hit that much harder that he’s not messing around.
Of all things I didn’t know I wanted, “Cell and Piccolo having a Kaiju battle” was something I never would have expected... I loved this movie so much. Also, I think Beerus recognizing Cheelai as an attractive woman AFTER and only after she shows fear and respect of him was perfect, poor Beerus hasn’t been seen like that ever since he started hanging around the dragon team, so good for him, the little “I like this one” was so telling of that
# 001 As soon as I saw that part with Beerus. I was like "Oh no, the Broly x Cheelai shippers are going to go bat insane over this!" And here Whis making it worse when he called out on Beerus when he made an energy umbrella to keep her dry.
Bonus points for CellMAX just actively using Godzilla's nuclear beams whenever he feels like it, just for that extra little spice of "goddamned DB kaiju battle".
that's the thing, so many people seem to be unhappy with the fight because to them, it's "this is just a BioBroly or Hirudegarn fight" Yet we've never seen a character grow in size and battle an equally big opponent. Thye nailed it

Pan and Piccolo's relationship was just the best!! I really, REALLY want to see more Pan going forward, she could be a great launch point for the series to be based around.
I really like how Superhero handled power scaling with an enemy that while is powerful, is only a truly fearsome foe to those available to fight it. I also love how it was a group effort and we saw everyone contributing rather than some "my pride as a fighter says I have to fight alone" bs. I also noticed how they mention Goten and Trunks growth spurt and how it actually makes sense thinking back on it with the other saiyans.
@@jamainegardner4193 To counter that point, Gohan and Trunks are hybrids, and Trunks was from a different timeline. Just because the specific aging gene wasn't passed to Gohan or future Trunks, doesn't mean that it wasn't passed on to Goten or current Trunks.
Yeah, all of the fighters off world would’ve ended the movie prematurely, so I’m glad that the full blooded Saiyan’s were all away from the action. However, I think Goku and Vegeta probably would’ve just let Gohan handle it even if Bulma got a hold of them in time.
This was over all the funniest Dragon Ball has ever been as well. Jokes like when they're talking in the car and as the scene builds to a climax with the agreeing to work together the driver turns on the radio and then slowly turns it up for dramatic effect. Also when Commander Magenta pulls a senator Armstrong had me rolling
I think Piccolo with a cell phone was one of my favorites, it made me have a snort laugh the way he held it, and seeing it from Bulma's view as he had no idea how to use it

I really liked how 18 was still traumitized by 2nd form Cell and Krillin being able to save her this time with the same move that Cell used to absorb 18. The sequence of everyone almost dying, Krillin yelling "YOU IDIOT' Whilst chasing after Gotenks and then ending with Gohans transformation. Even though everything was spoilt because of how dumb the internet is. I had a really good time watching it.
I also like how Krillin was the one to remind Piccolo that he could become a giant and that Krillin was also the baseline that Bulma used for determining if everyone survived the fight or not.
He was so embarrassed about it too! He was training in secret and didn’t want to show it off yet. “It was brilliant.” He might as well have said “I’m proud of you, son.”!

I saw this in IMAX and I loved it! The Gammas are amazing, the CG was great, and the colors left my jaw on the floor. Seeing Gohan and Piccolo standing together at the end in their new super forms while Pan was running towards Gohan almost brought a tear to my eye. Anyone who loves DB needs to see this movie!
The Piccolo and Pan moments were just too good. Piccolo holding the phone like an old grandpa every time when he talks on the cell phone. Him being the smart one and saying maybe I should go in disguise and check out what's going on instead of you know.. goku just running in and blowing everything up.
Great reviews. Honestly agree, this movie was a great breath of fresh air for DBS. It's like a perfect combo of DB & DBZ I was able to just enjoy it and the animation was top notch I loved it. From this point forward if they did this for the series or movies I'd be 100% fine with. Also the dubbed throw in so many nods to so many things. One being the Senzu Bean has to be similar to TFS, but it's Piccolo shouting "Senzu Bean" and throwing it at Gohan. Regardless it stands on it's own and it's just as good as Broly for what it brings to the table and future of the series.
# 001 Yeah and Gohan juggling it only to have dropped it like a klutz being a callback to the Buu Saga when Gohan dropped the potara earring before getting absorbed. I almost bust out laughing when Piccolo yelled "SENZU BEAN"! That was a beautiful moment.
Very nice. I think having someone like Pan acting as a catalyst for the action is awesome, both for involving children and tying in nicely to how Gohan starts. Same with the Nephew. The lore is certainly getting to 40k levels of exposition. XD The one thing I would say, is this movie is good *despite* Gohan, but I gotta say they presented it in a pretty engaging format. Definitely agree that the rest of the cast more then makes up for it.
This is the kinda movie you have to see in theaters to get the full experience. The cgi already threw people off and made them have a negative preconceived notion about it. The fact many people saw it illegally in like 100p made it even worse But to fully appreciate it, you have to see it in theaters. That’s why the ratings are slowly going up the more people see it
Piccolo and Gohan are the true MVPs having their moment to shine and show off what they can do in this movie while Goku, Vegeta and Broly are sidelined into the background.
Nah bro krillin is the real hero. He helped pan fly, saved 18, helped save gotenks, gave piccolo the idea to go big and landed a good kienzan on cell max. Dude was a champ.
To be honest I didn't feel like the movie went slow, I actually feel like it went kind of quick. I'll consider the action to just be the fighting personally I think a lot of these setting up and running around that piccolo does add some intensity to the movie as well.
Idk man, i enjoyed the film but i think they had so many missed opportunities. Like why would they make a mindless cell? Imagine the dialogues between gohan and cell, i thought cell would do a call back to the first saga, absorbing the androids and since they started with cell in his second form, if he absorbed them then that would've been a good excuse to power him up, i don't know why they revealed cell so early in the movie? I think revealing him waking up would've been better. The animation was really good but there were some parts that looked odd, still prefer 2D but pretty good. I think the transformation felt a little bit forced and they could've hyped it up a bit more, i loved pan's personality and how it's basically a love letter to gohan and picollo fans. Overall a solid movie, i don't think it will ever surpass broly movie in anything but really good movie. Its my opinion tho
I just got done seeing the movie tonight and I really liked how for this is more story oriented and Broly was my action oriented and I like that balance. People loved that cold, powerful and nonchalant manner of Gohan when he transformed and the way how his voice was really sold it. The theater was packed for me and when Vegeta said "I finally beat you, Kakarot" everybody started cheering clapping that Vegeta finally got one over Goku and could beat him. I seriously enjoyed this movie a lot more than I thought I would
# 001 I'm more intrigued on Vegeta's insight on Jiren. So now that Vegeta figured out Jiren's power, this makes me wonder how they are going to go about it. Because if all the Saiyans (and maybe the non-saiyans too) can harness this. Things can get a bit interesting going forward should this series continue.
I brought my daughter to see it. I loved this movie so much. I can't explain it in a comment. Seeing my kid get so excited about piccolo made me start to cry. And now her favorite character went from goku to pan.
I watched the Dub version last night at my local cinema. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed the film - its not a masterpiece like DBS: Broly was imo, but a great time nonetheless. I thought the CGI worked well (although I will forever prefer DBS: Broly's hand-drawn artstyle anyday, and I can understand it not being everyone's cup of tea), I also agree that this was a "Piccolo film" and I really appreciated it for that fact. Pan was a treat and worked realy well into the story without feeling tedious - and I hope this will be her character's personality going forward instead of how she was in a lot of GT. It's great to see the side characters be the focus of the film as well as it upped the stakes a lot more than if Goku and Vegeta was the focus again, and I'm glad we got to see a little bit of their time on Beerus' planet with Broly and his companions. SPOILERS: Gohan and Piccolo's new forms are awesome and their fight with Cell Max was hype - I'm really glad they finally got the power up that they needed. And Gamma 2's death actually struck a cord with me, considering that I expected him to be a bit of a nuisance upon first seeing him in the film. I will admit though ... I'm really annoyed they teased teen Gotenks but only showed his botched form. Also, I'll add this: ANDROID 21 is canon!!!! I was so happy to see her appear as an image in the movie, I hope they can tie her into the canon's plotline more in the future. Can't wait to see what they do with the franchise going forward, hopefully they'll continue with quality over quantity for the series.
An absolute nostalgia trip of a movie. All the call backs and the post credit scene felt like a reward for being a long time dragon ball fan. Only thing I'd change was getting Adult Gotenks
Watched the movie online in Japanese when it first came out and I really enjoyed it. I especially loved Gamma 1 and Gamma 2, and how the movie gives the secondary characters much more time to shine compared to the show or the other movies. May go and rewatch it on the big screen
Wish this were true, but this comment isn't accurate. Movie didn't give secondary characters time to shine, the movie forced secondary characters to act foolishly and out of character in order to make them fit into Goku and Vegetas roles. Like the final fight was literally just Goku and Vegeta vs Kid Buu w a Gohan and Piccolo reskin. Letting the characters shine would have been featuring the Great Saiyaman I'm a Gohan Movie called Superhero, or allowing Piccolo to achieve new heights through an understanding of Namekian culture or something instead of just wishing to be stronk. Letting characters shine would be exploring Gohans research that they mentioned and using that and his intellect as a way to bring Gohan to new heights instead of the same rage asspull transformation we've seen 100 times. They didn't let the characters shine, they paraded them around on sticks for fanservice
I’m excited for the movie, I’ve had 10 tickets pre ordered since the day ticket presales opened. Me and my entire friend group are going at 2 pm tomorrow, and have luckily for the most part remained spoiler free. I know about the ending of the movie, but nothing else
Saw it yesterday in 4DX.... absolutely incredible. Great movie enhanced by the fact that you feel as though you're in the fights with all the motion effects!!
Happy to hear Gamma 2 is a good character, he's voiced by the same VA as two of my favorite characters, Okabe from Steins;Gate and Ling from FMA: Brotherhood
I love this movie so much, definitely one of my favourite dragon ball films. Love all the characters, I think the 3d animation was done super well, the fights were awesome, love the flashbacks and callbacks, also that one theme… love it so much.
Just got back from seeing this in the cinema. I honestly really loved this film and had reactions and moments during it that I havent had in a long time. While I do think Gohan's silver look is a little eh for my liking, I do really appreciate its ties to Super Saiyan 2. Piccolo was just fantastic and I appreciate the fact he was the main character for this film. While I do love Goku and Vegeta, I really appreciate them kinda just being off to the side in this. Piccolo running the show and this film effectively being his moment to show his true potential was so cool! I just really really enjoyed this film all around and recommend it to any Dragon Ball fans 100%!
I’m taking my nephew to see it in 4dx. And like you said the advertising was non existent outside of Japan because he had no idea there was a movie coming out and he loves dragon ball. They could have put commercials on Cartoon Network or UA-cam or something.
This was an amazing movie, gohan and piccolo finally got their moments and glad they are getting a chance to shine. The animation was pretty good was a little unsure at first but impressed.

I went to a cinema in UK yesterday. Saw a guy standing in front of a ticket machine and watching Super Hero trailer. I heard from his conversation that he was surprised that there is a Dragon Ball movie. It is very sad the guy is absolutely interested in the movie, but he did not know the existence of the movie unless going to a cinema
I'm seeing this today with my dad and a friend...only a few other seats were taken- so yeah toei did drop the ball by quite a bit lol, excited for the movie though!

I'm usually not into 3D anime either, but there are exceptions to everything. This movie was superbly animated. It's key frames were glorius, and all the action had SO much power to it.
I watched the movie dubbed (easier for me so I don’t miss as much) and I found it pretty good. The pacing felt a little strange for me, but not terribly off putting. Loved the visuals, it may not have been Broly movie standards that people go on about, but it was still extremely well done and personally see the overall animation only just below for certain scenes. However, don’t think it will be that popular. I live in a smaller area so cinemas are very rarely full, but usually there is a good amount of people watching it subbed or dubbed. There was only two other people in the cinema for this screening… and they walked out probably just before the half way mark… yeah… I’m worried that the movie still won’t do as good and this sort of story might not ever be done again…
I was the only person there for my screening. It was subbed and at a non amc cinema so if figured that's what it was but I really hope this doesn't become a trend with this movie
Just watched it. *Spoilers* - Loved Pan's cuteness - I think Pan's teacher was the lady that was holding up Magenta's car - Gohan's entrance to the base and his fight scenes were epic. - Piccolo in both action, comedy and dialogue stole the show for me - I actually want more Gamma content now, their moves were awesome and perhaps different types of clothing - Cell Max moved way more flexible and faster than expected - The one disappointment was not seeing Gotenks fused correctly during the fight
Okay, so, bit of an unpopular opinion: I love what they're doing with the Super movies. They're taking concepts and characters that were either once only movie canon or fanmade and giving them new purpose within the story, while paying homage to the original series in charge of bringing everything together. Super Broly made Broly a canon character and Gogeta more than just a possibility for Goku and Vegeta. Not to mention they made Gogeta Blue canon within the same film, but I digress. Super Hero made Gohan Blanco, a staple of the Dragon Ball fanmade community, canon and absolutely insane AND gave Piccolo greater relevance. Not to mention opening the doors to Android beings such as Gamma 1 and 2 being possible threats/allies in the future. I would definitely love to see a saga in the Super manga where a character like Gamma 3 goes rogue and it'll be up to Gamma 1 and the Z Fighters to stop the new threat. Bit of room in there for a Perfect Cell Max. But that's just me.
Saw it last night, absolutely loved it. Was a joyful time in the cinemas. If I have any complaint it’s that the final battle was a little lacklustre, but hardly a deal-breaker. I saw it dubbed, want to see if I can catch a subbed screening as well.
This was my son's first Dragon Ball movie experience. He's aware of post-credit scenes and insisted we stay to see if there would be one. We were not disappointed, in fact it was our favorite part. To just tack on Vegeta's ultimate moment that he doesn't even get to enjoy epitomizes Toriyama's sense of humor.
This movie reminded me why I liked Piccolo in the first place. Plus it was fun to hear the other characters go back and forth between his identity as either Kami or King Piccolo.
The respect Piccolo and Krillin got in this movie was so refreshing… it takes me back to the days of the sayain saga, Frieza saga, and the Garlic Jr saga. When Gohan, Krillin, and Piccolo had to fight the big bads … it was really awesome
Just been to see the dub version today in the cinema and planning to see the sub version next in IMAX soon. Really enjoyed this film, it was my first time seeing a Dragon Ball movie on the big screen as I missed the Broly film when it came out here in the UK. There were a lot of moments throughout which had me smiling and geeking out. Piccolo was just awesome in this. All his scenes with Pan were adorable, with Piccolo being the best parent ever and Pan just being the cutest thing. Loved the Gammas and Cell Max I think serves his purpose at being a big final boss. The scenes on Beerus' planet while not too important to the rest of story, were still great to see and it was good to see Broly, Cheelai and Lemo again (the after credits scene had me grinning 😁). The fight scenes were a lot of fun. I personally liked the fights between Gohan, Piccolo and the Gammas but the final battle with Cell Max was great with everyone coming together to fight. Also good to see Goten and Trunks finally ageing up a bit. Overall, the movie was a lot of fun and glad to have seen it in theaters. Excellent review Masako from both yourself and your nephews. 🐉
I loved it, it was literally like I was just watching a FighterZ movie, it looks almost identical, another thing I liked was the credits concept art with Nimbus in each one, I gotta wonder if Golden Cell is really gonna happen.
Took my 6 year old daughter to see this today. It's good, it's fun. I've been watching dragon ball for like 30 years and my daughter had only seen a teeny bit. We both went crazy. Nostalgia aside, outs probably my favorite dragon ball movie. With nostalgia, history of trunks or maybe coolers revenge
I think the problem with Toei and anime as a whole is that the executives or whoever is in charge of promotion don’t see Dragon Ball or anime as a worldwide product. They limit the scope and focus entirely on the people of japan while the rest of us are just an after thought.
The advertising rant was definitely accurate even to other movies. I found out (the day before I’m commenting) that there was an SAO movie that came out @ the end of 2021 this is just over 8 MONTHS later and I’d still not heard about until some one said something about it in another DBS:Super Hero video. Anime companies really need to be better about that.
The thing I was most impatient of was the trailers which normally I enjoy and certain distractions from the main group. All I hope going on is we get to learn more about the two secret members of a certain family and I'd love it if now that some characters have been focused on two other characters who were treated as a bit of a joke in the movie can have one centered on them so they can get their own power boost since they're nearly at a point where they can come across as relevant again. I think people who saw it know what this means and I hope this is ambiguous enough to not somehow be a spoiler as i just finished my viewing and these were the thoughts i had and with how exciting it was i needed an outlet to give my thought. All in all it was in all a fantastic entry into the dragon ball lore and I can't wait for more since these past couple movies and the manga entries have been great stepping off points for more seasons of the super anime.
Literally just came back from the theater and had a blast. It was great to see Piccolo and to a lesser extent Gohan being the protagonists of the story and absolutely loved Dr. Hedo and the Gammas. Watching the final fight also made me really want to see Gamma 1 and 2 be playable in FighterZ.
I finally had an opportunity to see this and I’m in love with it! I was a bit worried about it being CG, but I think everything about it looked GREAT! There’s something magical about classic hand drawn art, but I think 3D is a great medium for Dragon Ball!
Watching this movie yesterday had brought me so much excitement, the goosebumps were unreal towards the end of the movie. I'm so happy that this movie is so great even though Goku and Vegeta are side line characters, which I'm more than happy with, expand on other characters in the Z franchise like this movie and it can work. Very Happy that I got the opportunity to watch this movie.
I seen this movie last night and it was very delightful. I loved the reference they made regarding the history of not only the Red Ribbon army, but also that of Gohan as well (to a degree). I’ll be happy to see it again but dubbed. One of my favorite movies of the summer.
I actually waited to watch your review until after I'd seen it myself. At the time of writing this comment, the showing I saw was the first subbed showing the theater had, as the official advertising of the movie has it not starting until tomorrow. That said, Gamma-2 was amazing, and I have no shame to admit I shed tears at his final attack. Cell Max was far more intimidating than Full-Power Jiren, which says a lot, my first thought of Orange Piccolo was "PICCOLO SMASH!!!", Pan was so bloody adorable she had me in tears trying not to laugh too loudly, Krillin's use of Taiyouken was so expertly timed it almost seemed like he'd planned the move from the moment the fight started, and seeing Goten and Trunks actually FINALLY GROWING UP was absolutely brilliant! All in all, I absolutely LOVED the movie, and cannot stress highly enough that people *NEED* to see this!
But how would they know who he is is? There are wierd creatures on earth. To them he should just be some pink guy but they seem to know about him in detail as if they weren't affected by the wish.
You're absolutely right about Toei fumbling the bag with the marketing of this movie, I only went to see it cause I saw Lani and Kaiser's review on it (not long enough to get spoiled) and my local theater literally shared it's slot with another movie. That being said, very good movie, loved pretty much everything about it (Beast Gohan's hair looks dumb) and I really want to go see it again-
The whole "people don't know this movie exists" thing hits hard, cause I legitimately didn't know this movie existed until my uncle was like "hey, we're gonna go watch the new Dragon Ball movie tonight"
Obviously biased because I went to the preview screening but I LOVED this film 😱 the animation was jarring at first but after the first 5 minutes I stopped noticing, also the colours and effects and stuff during the fights is how I always pictured Dragon Ball in my head so I'm glad we have the technology now to make it that way. 🤩 Cell Max was giving me bio Broly vibes for a while and I was worried they would do him dirty but fortunately not. 🥳 Glad Goku and Vegeta were otherwise occupied, I was worried they would pull the old 'goku swoops in and saves the universe hurray for Goku' 🙃 Piccolo is my son's favourite character so he'll be delighted with the amount of screen time Gohan and Piccolo get. 😊 As a Red Ribbon/Cell saga fanboy, it's like this movie was *made* for me 😭 I popped for 18's appearance, 17 not appearing boo 👎 Pan was adorable and funny. The post credit scene didn't sit well with me either because we should never ever EVER have any sort of answer to who is stronger, they're destined to do this forever. 😐 but I did chuckle 😀
1:35 it is hard to remember that this is a show intended for children. I did love DBZ growing up, so as an adult we can be harsh on it. However, if the kids are happy, then it should be consider a success.
No the should have called it anything else because "Super: Super" is dumb af and Toriyama himself admitted that he named it Super hero because he forgot the name of the series
The marketing was abysmal. Just left the theatre and there were literally 7 people (including me and my sister) at a screening at 1 PM. This is 2 days after the initial release here in Portugal and we LOVE Dragon Ball over here. I didn't even know the movie was coming out until the day before its release.
Just went to see this film, I loved it! It felt so different to the general Dragon Ball Formula for me. I felt like we saw a different side of the characters and they all worked so well together. Gohan was abit of a badass too!! Not to mention the animation and colours were beautiful Spoiler!!!: and I loved that they used the same Animation as Gohan snapping going SSJ2 again cell on Z! I also loved the call back from Piccolo to him and goku learning to drive!
The most balanced review I have seen, spot on about how people should view the film. I think people take Dragon Ball a little too seriously and maybe forget to just have fun

Man I went to see it with my wife who’s NEVER seen dragon ball and she loved the movie! It was one of the best experiences I’ve had in theaters and it did the series and the fans some much needed love!
Spoilers. Pan and Piccolo were the highlights of the movie. Pan had a lot of my favorite moments. From being in on the mission, to her acting. It was a delight to see. Especially at the end when she finally got to show her dad Gohan that she could fly. I could really sense the amount of pride she had. It was a really beautiful moment and got me misty eyed. There was also the dynamic Piccolo had with Pan. He was very much like a pseudo parent of sorts doing all the chores for Gohan and Videl. It reminded me of when Gohan was a kid being trained by Piccolo. I especially enjoyed seeing him go undercover. There were some really funny moments there. It was also very refreshing to have more reserved parts of the story. Quite different from the constant action of other movies. I liked the call back to Guru's ability too, and Piccolo's orange transformation was really exciting! I underestimated the Gamma characters. I had the impression that they'd be another evil android. They turned out to be quite eccentric and heroic characters. I really enjoyed their interactions. I wasn't expecting to like them so much. Cell was spoiled for me. It was a dangerous spoiler because it subconsciously made me expect for the original Cell to return. Cell Max reminded me of the old classic mindless Broly. I think I was slightly disappointed, but my guts told me a brainless beast was a better way to end the movie. Maybe if it was a series my idea would make more sense. It was not what I expected, but it was still really cool. I want to point out an easter egg. I noticed that "Android 21" from FighterZ made a cameo at the beginning of the movie when Carmine and Magenta were talking. I was really glad this movie gave the spotlight to characters other than Goku and Vegeta. It was funny, but I was glad Vegeta at long last got himself a victory against Kakarot. I appreciated seeing all the brief appearances of those characters. Dragon Ball being an action comedy is the core of what I believe makes it really enjoyable (taking after comedic inspirations from journey to the west). It allows for goofy moments to break up the tension. Beerus eating ice cream while watching the fight, Pan smacking the soldier at preschool, Gamma having holographic text attacks, Piccolo's piloting skills, Gotenks hijinks, etc. It elevates the experience for me and makes the movie very enjoyable. I believe it allows for more contrast when the serious moments do come up. This is probably my favorite Dragon Ball movie as of late. I'd love to see it again in theaters if I get the chance!
My girlfriend is taking me to see it SUBBED on Saturday for my birthday. She's only seen a couple eps of the Cell games, and I can't wait for her to see this! I'm gonna have her watch Broly with me before we go though. Can't wait to see it subbed on the big screen!

Gamma 2 literally became one of my very favorite characters in dragonball just with this short time on screen. Seriously that's impressive that gamma 2 made such an impact on so many people for being in a movie only.

Of all things I didn’t know I wanted, “Cell and Piccolo having a Kaiju battle” was something I never would have expected... I loved this movie so much. Also, I think Beerus recognizing Cheelai as an attractive woman AFTER and only after she shows fear and respect of him was perfect, poor Beerus hasn’t been seen like that ever since he started hanging around the dragon team, so good for him, the little “I like this one” was so telling of that

# 001 The kid has a bright future in "What If-fery".
I really like how Superhero handled power scaling with an enemy that while is powerful, is only a truly fearsome foe to those available to fight it. I also love how it was a group effort and we saw everyone contributing rather than some "my pride as a fighter says I have to fight alone" bs. I also noticed how they mention Goten and Trunks growth spurt and how it actually makes sense thinking back on it with the other saiyans.
...except it doesn't make sense because both Gohan and Future Trunks grew naturally.

Yeah, all of the fighters off world would’ve ended the movie prematurely, so I’m glad that the full blooded Saiyan’s were all away from the action. However, I think Goku and Vegeta probably would’ve just let Gohan handle it even if Bulma got a hold of them in time.
This was over all the funniest Dragon Ball has ever been as well. Jokes like when they're talking in the car and as the scene builds to a climax with the agreeing to work together the driver turns on the radio and then slowly turns it up for dramatic effect. Also when Commander Magenta pulls a senator Armstrong had me rolling
I think Piccolo with a cell phone was one of my favorites, it made me have a snort laugh the way he held it, and seeing it from Bulma's view as he had no idea how to use it

I saw this in IMAX and I loved it! The Gammas are amazing, the CG was great, and the colors left my jaw on the floor. Seeing Gohan and Piccolo standing together at the end in their new super forms while Pan was running towards Gohan almost brought a tear to my eye.
Anyone who loves DB needs to see this movie!

Great reviews. Honestly agree, this movie was a great breath of fresh air for DBS. It's like a perfect combo of DB & DBZ I was able to just enjoy it and the animation was top notch I loved it. From this point forward if they did this for the series or movies I'd be 100% fine with.
Also the dubbed throw in so many nods to so many things. One being the Senzu Bean has to be similar to TFS, but it's Piccolo shouting "Senzu Bean" and throwing it at Gohan.
Regardless it stands on it's own and it's just as good as Broly for what it brings to the table and future of the series.
# 001 Yeah and Gohan juggling it only to have dropped it like a klutz being a callback to the Buu Saga when Gohan dropped the potara earring before getting absorbed.

Very nice. I think having someone like Pan acting as a catalyst for the action is awesome, both for involving children and tying in nicely to how Gohan starts. Same with the Nephew.

The one thing I would say, is this movie is good *despite* Gohan, but I gotta say they presented it in a pretty engaging format. Definitely agree that the rest of the cast more then makes up for it.

Nah bro krillin is the real hero. He helped pan fly, saved 18, helped save gotenks, gave piccolo the idea to go big and landed a good kienzan on cell max. Dude was a champ.

To be honest I didn't feel like the movie went slow, I actually feel like it went kind of quick. I'll consider the action to just be the fighting personally I think a lot of these setting up and running around that piccolo does add some intensity to the movie as well.

It started slow... But it built up into a beautiful crescendo
Some scenes were unnecessarily long though, like Cell Max breaking out and the stuff with Goku and Vegeta on Beerus's planet.
Idk man, i enjoyed the film but i think they had so many missed opportunities. Like why would they make a mindless cell? Imagine the dialogues between gohan and cell, i thought cell would do a call back to the first saga, absorbing the androids and since they started with cell in his second form, if he absorbed them then that would've been a good excuse to power him up, i don't know why they revealed cell so early in the movie? I think revealing him waking up would've been better. The animation was really good but there were some parts that looked odd, still prefer 2D but pretty good. I think the transformation felt a little bit forced and they could've hyped it up a bit more, i loved pan's personality and how it's basically a love letter to gohan and picollo fans. Overall a solid movie, i don't think it will ever surpass broly movie in anything but really good movie. Its my opinion tho

I just got done seeing the movie tonight and I really liked how for this is more story oriented and Broly was my action oriented and I like that balance. People loved that cold, powerful and nonchalant manner of Gohan when he transformed and the way how his voice was really sold it. The theater was packed for me and when Vegeta said "I finally beat you, Kakarot" everybody started cheering clapping that Vegeta finally got one over Goku and could beat him. I seriously enjoyed this movie a lot more than I thought I would
# 001 I'm more intrigued on Vegeta's insight on Jiren. So now that Vegeta figured out Jiren's power, this makes me wonder how they are going to go about it. Because if all the Saiyans (and maybe the non-saiyans too) can harness this. Things can get a bit interesting going forward should this series continue.
I brought my daughter to see it. I loved this movie so much. I can't explain it in a comment. Seeing my kid get so excited about piccolo made me start to cry. And now her favorite character went from goku to pan.
I watched the Dub version last night at my local cinema. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed the film - its not a masterpiece like DBS: Broly was imo, but a great time nonetheless.
I thought the CGI worked well (although I will forever prefer DBS: Broly's hand-drawn artstyle anyday, and I can understand it not being everyone's cup of tea), I also agree that this was a "Piccolo film" and I really appreciated it for that fact. Pan was a treat and worked realy well into the story without feeling tedious - and I hope this will be her character's personality going forward instead of how she was in a lot of GT.
It's great to see the side characters be the focus of the film as well as it upped the stakes a lot more than if Goku and Vegeta was the focus again, and I'm glad we got to see a little bit of their time on Beerus' planet with Broly and his companions.
SPOILERS:
Gohan and Piccolo's new forms are awesome and their fight with Cell Max was hype - I'm really glad they finally got the power up that they needed.
And Gamma 2's death actually struck a cord with me, considering that I expected him to be a bit of a nuisance upon first seeing him in the film.
I will admit though ... I'm really annoyed they teased teen Gotenks but only showed his botched form.
Also, I'll add this: ANDROID 21 is canon!!!!
I was so happy to see her appear as an image in the movie, I hope they can tie her into the canon's plotline more in the future.
Can't wait to see what they do with the franchise going forward, hopefully they'll continue with quality over quantity for the series.

An absolute nostalgia trip of a movie. All the call backs and the post credit scene felt like a reward for being a long time dragon ball fan.

Watched the movie online in Japanese when it first came out and I really enjoyed it. I especially loved Gamma 1 and Gamma 2, and how the movie gives the secondary characters much more time to shine compared to the show or the other movies. May go and rewatch it on the big screen
Wish this were true, but this comment isn't accurate. Movie didn't give secondary characters time to shine, the movie forced secondary characters to act foolishly and out of character in order to make them fit into Goku and Vegetas roles. Like the final fight was literally just Goku and Vegeta vs Kid Buu w a Gohan and Piccolo reskin. Letting the characters shine would have been featuring the Great Saiyaman I'm a Gohan Movie called Superhero, or allowing Piccolo to achieve new heights through an understanding of Namekian culture or something instead of just wishing to be stronk. Letting characters shine would be exploring Gohans research that they mentioned and using that and his intellect as a way to bring Gohan to new heights instead of the same rage asspull transformation we've seen 100 times. They didn't let the characters shine, they paraded them around on sticks for fanservice

I love this movie so much, definitely one of my favourite dragon ball films. Love all the characters, I think the 3d animation was done super well, the fights were awesome, love the flashbacks and callbacks, also that one theme… love it so much.
Just got back from seeing this in the cinema. I honestly really loved this film and had reactions and moments during it that I havent had in a long time. While I do think Gohan's silver look is a little eh for my liking, I do really appreciate its ties to Super Saiyan 2. Piccolo was just fantastic and I appreciate the fact he was the main character for this film. While I do love Goku and Vegeta, I really appreciate them kinda just being off to the side in this. Piccolo running the show and this film effectively being his moment to show his true potential was so cool! I just really really enjoyed this film all around and recommend it to any Dragon Ball fans 100%!

I’m taking my nephew to see it in 4dx. And like you said the advertising was non existent outside of Japan because he had no idea there was a movie coming out and he loves dragon ball. They could have put commercials on Cartoon Network or UA-cam or something.
This was an amazing movie, gohan and piccolo finally got their moments and glad they are getting a chance to shine. The animation was pretty good was a little unsure at first but impressed.
Broly's old voice actor: Wow i got lines in the new portrayal of this character, I get to have actual lines! a personality!

I went to a cinema in UK yesterday. Saw a guy standing in front of a ticket machine and watching Super Hero trailer. I heard from his conversation that he was surprised that there is a Dragon Ball movie. It is very sad the guy is absolutely interested in the movie, but he did not know the existence of the movie unless going to a cinema
I like to believe that Dende had poured the Ultra Divine Water over Shenron which gave Shenron the ability to awaken someone's potential.

Cell Max was strong, but he wasn't "Perfect."
I'm usually not into 3D anime either, but there are exceptions to everything. This movie was superbly animated. It's key frames were glorius, and all the action had SO much power to it.
I really liked the part with the car scene I loved the conversation between the dr and magenta
I watched the movie dubbed (easier for me so I don’t miss as much) and I found it pretty good.
The pacing felt a little strange for me, but not terribly off putting.
Loved the visuals, it may not have been Broly movie standards that people go on about, but it was still extremely well done and personally see the overall animation only just below for certain scenes.
However, don’t think it will be that popular.
I live in a smaller area so cinemas are very rarely full, but usually there is a good amount of people watching it subbed or dubbed.
There was only two other people in the cinema for this screening… and they walked out probably just before the half way mark… yeah… I’m worried that the movie still won’t do as good and this sort of story might not ever be done again…
my theatre was about 1/4 full it really wasn't as full as I expected. that being said everyone cheered after the credits with me :D
I was the only person there for my screening. It was subbed and at a non amc cinema so if figured that's what it was but I really hope this doesn't become a trend with this movie

- I think Pan's teacher was the lady that was holding up Magenta's car
- Gohan's entrance to the base and his fight scenes were epic.
- Piccolo in both action, comedy and dialogue stole the show for me
- I actually want more Gamma content now, their moves were awesome and perhaps different types of clothing
- Cell Max moved way more flexible and faster than expected
- The one disappointment was not seeing Gotenks fused correctly during the fight
Okay, so, bit of an unpopular opinion:
I love what they're doing with the Super movies. They're taking concepts and characters that were either once only movie canon or fanmade and giving them new purpose within the story, while paying homage to the original series in charge of bringing everything together. Super Broly made Broly a canon character and Gogeta more than just a possibility for Goku and Vegeta. Not to mention they made Gogeta Blue canon within the same film, but I digress. Super Hero made Gohan Blanco, a staple of the Dragon Ball fanmade community, canon and absolutely insane AND gave Piccolo greater relevance. Not to mention opening the doors to Android beings such as Gamma 1 and 2 being possible threats/allies in the future. I would definitely love to see a saga in the Super manga where a character like Gamma 3 goes rogue and it'll be up to Gamma 1 and the Z Fighters to stop the new threat. Bit of room in there for a Perfect Cell Max. But that's just me.
Saw it last night, absolutely loved it. Was a joyful time in the cinemas. If I have any complaint it’s that the final battle was a little lacklustre, but hardly a deal-breaker.
I saw it dubbed, want to see if I can catch a subbed screening as well.
This was my son's first Dragon Ball movie experience. He's aware of post-credit scenes and insisted we stay to see if there would be one. We were not disappointed, in fact it was our favorite part. To just tack on Vegeta's ultimate moment that he doesn't even get to enjoy epitomizes Toriyama's sense of humor.
This movie reminded me why I liked Piccolo in the first place. Plus it was fun to hear the other characters go back and forth between his identity as either Kami or King Piccolo.
The respect Piccolo and Krillin got in this movie was so refreshing… it takes me back to the days of the sayain saga, Frieza saga, and the Garlic Jr saga. When Gohan, Krillin, and Piccolo had to fight the big bads … it was really awesome
Just been to see the dub version today in the cinema and planning to see the sub version next in IMAX soon. Really enjoyed this film, it was my first time seeing a Dragon Ball movie on the big screen as I missed the Broly film when it came out here in the UK.
There were a lot of moments throughout which had me smiling and geeking out. Piccolo was just awesome in this. All his scenes with Pan were adorable, with Piccolo being the best parent ever and Pan just being the cutest thing. Loved the Gammas and Cell Max I think serves his purpose at being a big final boss. The scenes on Beerus' planet while not too important to the rest of story, were still great to see and it was good to see Broly, Cheelai and Lemo again (the after credits scene had me grinning 😁). The fight scenes were a lot of fun. I personally liked the fights between Gohan, Piccolo and the Gammas but the final battle with Cell Max was great with everyone coming together to fight. Also good to see Goten and Trunks finally ageing up a bit.
Overall, the movie was a lot of fun and glad to have seen it in theaters. Excellent review Masako from both yourself and your nephews. 🐉
Gamma 2 is one of my new favorite characters in the show as a whole so yes, the Gammas do steal the show
I loved it, it was literally like I was just watching a FighterZ movie, it looks almost identical, another thing I liked was the credits concept art with Nimbus in each one, I gotta wonder if Golden Cell is really gonna happen.
Took my 6 year old daughter to see this today. It's good, it's fun. I've been watching dragon ball for like 30 years and my daughter had only seen a teeny bit. We both went crazy. Nostalgia aside, outs probably my favorite dragon ball movie.

I think the problem with Toei and anime as a whole is that the executives or whoever is in charge of promotion don’t see Dragon Ball or anime as a worldwide product. They limit the scope and focus entirely on the people of japan while the rest of us are just an after thought.
The advertising rant was definitely accurate even to other movies. I found out (the day before I’m commenting) that there was an SAO movie that came out @ the end of 2021 this is just over 8 MONTHS later and I’d still not heard about until some one said something about it in another DBS:Super Hero video. Anime companies really need to be better about that.

The thing I was most impatient of was the trailers which normally I enjoy and certain distractions from the main group. All I hope going on is we get to learn more about the two secret members of a certain family and I'd love it if now that some characters have been focused on two other characters who were treated as a bit of a joke in the movie can have one centered on them so they can get their own power boost since they're nearly at a point where they can come across as relevant again. I think people who saw it know what this means and I hope this is ambiguous enough to not somehow be a spoiler as i just finished my viewing and these were the thoughts i had and with how exciting it was i needed an outlet to give my thought. All in all it was in all a fantastic entry into the dragon ball lore and I can't wait for more since these past couple movies and the manga entries have been great stepping off points for more seasons of the super anime.
Adding this to my watch later, because I'm not seeing the movie til tomorrow.

Literally just came back from the theater and had a blast. It was great to see Piccolo and to a lesser extent Gohan being the protagonists of the story and absolutely loved Dr. Hedo and the Gammas. Watching the final fight also made me really want to see Gamma 1 and 2 be playable in FighterZ.
I finally had an opportunity to see this and I’m in love with it! I was a bit worried about it being CG, but I think everything about it looked GREAT! There’s something magical about classic hand drawn art, but I think 3D is a great medium for Dragon Ball!
Saw it today and, not gonna lie. Might be the freshness bias but... this is now my favourite Dragon Ball movie

Watching this movie yesterday had brought me so much excitement, the goosebumps were unreal towards the end of the movie. I'm so happy that this movie is so great even though Goku and Vegeta are side line characters, which I'm more than happy with, expand on other characters in the Z franchise like this movie and it can work. Very Happy that I got the opportunity to watch this movie.
I seen this movie last night and it was very delightful. I loved the reference they made regarding the history of not only the Red Ribbon army, but also that of Gohan as well (to a degree).
I’ll be happy to see it again but dubbed. One of my favorite movies of the summer.
Pan got more screentime than Goten.
I actually waited to watch your review until after I'd seen it myself. At the time of writing this comment, the showing I saw was the first subbed showing the theater had, as the official advertising of the movie has it not starting until tomorrow. That said, Gamma-2 was amazing, and I have no shame to admit I shed tears at his final attack. Cell Max was far more intimidating than Full-Power Jiren, which says a lot, my first thought of Orange Piccolo was "PICCOLO SMASH!!!", Pan was so bloody adorable she had me in tears trying not to laugh too loudly, Krillin's use of Taiyouken was so expertly timed it almost seemed like he'd planned the move from the moment the fight started, and seeing Goten and Trunks actually FINALLY GROWING UP was absolutely brilliant!
All in all, I absolutely LOVED the movie, and cannot stress highly enough that people *NEED* to see this!
What is your take on how the red ribbon army knows who Buu is despite the wish on the dragon balls that made people forget him?
But how would they know who he is is? There are wierd creatures on earth.
To them he should just be some pink guy but they seem to know about him in detail as if they weren't affected by the wish.

You're absolutely right about Toei fumbling the bag with the marketing of this movie, I only went to see it cause I saw Lani and Kaiser's review on it (not long enough to get spoiled) and my local theater literally shared it's slot with another movie. That being said, very good movie, loved pretty much everything about it (Beast Gohan's hair looks dumb) and I really want to go see it again-
Apart from the way Gohan getting his Beast form (Just make him train to achieve something for once instead of rage) The movie is great

The whole "people don't know this movie exists" thing hits hard, cause I legitimately didn't know this movie existed until my uncle was like "hey, we're gonna go watch the new Dragon Ball movie tonight"
Obviously biased because I went to the preview screening but I LOVED this film 😱 the animation was jarring at first but after the first 5 minutes I stopped noticing, also the colours and effects and stuff during the fights is how I always pictured Dragon Ball in my head so I'm glad we have the technology now to make it that way. 🤩
Cell Max was giving me bio Broly vibes for a while and I was worried they would do him dirty but fortunately not. 🥳

As a Red Ribbon/Cell saga fanboy, it's like this movie was *made* for me 😭 I popped for 18's appearance, 17 not appearing boo 👎 Pan was adorable and funny.
The post credit scene didn't sit well with me either because we should never ever EVER have any sort of answer to who is stronger, they're destined to do this forever. 😐 but I did chuckle 😀

I saw it in Facebook and it did so much justice simply spectacular.
1:35 it is hard to remember that this is a show intended for children. I did love DBZ growing up, so as an adult we can be harsh on it. However, if the kids are happy, then it should be consider a success.

The marketing was abysmal. Just left the theatre and there were literally 7 people (including me and my sister) at a screening at 1 PM. This is 2 days after the initial release here in Portugal and we LOVE Dragon Ball over here.
I didn't even know the movie was coming out until the day before its release.
Just went to see this film, I loved it!
It felt so different to the general Dragon Ball Formula for me. I felt like we saw a different side of the characters and they all worked so well together. Gohan was abit of a badass too!!
Not to mention the animation and colours were beautiful

Man I went to see it with my wife who’s NEVER seen dragon ball and she loved the movie! It was one of the best experiences I’ve had in theaters and it did the series and the fans some much needed love!
Spoilers.
Pan and Piccolo were the highlights of the movie. Pan had a lot of my favorite moments. From being in on the mission, to her acting. It was a delight to see. Especially at the end when she finally got to show her dad Gohan that she could fly. I could really sense the amount of pride she had. It was a really beautiful moment and got me misty eyed. There was also the dynamic Piccolo had with Pan. He was very much like a pseudo parent of sorts doing all the chores for Gohan and Videl. It reminded me of when Gohan was a kid being trained by Piccolo.
I especially enjoyed seeing him go undercover. There were some really funny moments there. It was also very refreshing to have more reserved parts of the story. Quite different from the constant action of other movies. I liked the call back to Guru's ability too, and Piccolo's orange transformation was really exciting!
I underestimated the Gamma characters. I had the impression that they'd be another evil android. They turned out to be quite eccentric and heroic characters. I really enjoyed their interactions. I wasn't expecting to like them so much.
Cell was spoiled for me. It was a dangerous spoiler because it subconsciously made me expect for the original Cell to return. Cell Max reminded me of the old classic mindless Broly. I think I was slightly disappointed, but my guts told me a brainless beast was a better way to end the movie. Maybe if it was a series my idea would make more sense. It was not what I expected, but it was still really cool.
I want to point out an easter egg. I noticed that "Android 21" from FighterZ made a cameo at the beginning of the movie when Carmine and Magenta were talking.
I was really glad this movie gave the spotlight to characters other than Goku and Vegeta. It was funny, but I was glad Vegeta at long last got himself a victory against Kakarot. I appreciated seeing all the brief appearances of those characters.
Dragon Ball being an action comedy is the core of what I believe makes it really enjoyable (taking after comedic inspirations from journey to the west). It allows for goofy moments to break up the tension. Beerus eating ice cream while watching the fight, Pan smacking the soldier at preschool, Gamma having holographic text attacks, Piccolo's piloting skills, Gotenks hijinks, etc. It elevates the experience for me and makes the movie very enjoyable. I believe it allows for more contrast when the serious moments do come up.
This is probably my favorite Dragon Ball movie as of late. I'd love to see it again in theaters if I get the chance!
I like how the Gammas were hated at first but this movie and the gammas creeped up the pecking order and now are fan favorites.

My girlfriend is taking me to see it SUBBED on Saturday for my birthday. She's only seen a couple eps of the Cell games, and I can't wait for her to see this! I'm gonna have her watch Broly with me before we go though. Can't wait to see it subbed on the big screen!
