I don't know Japanese, but the translation at 13:13 where Jean talks about the charred bones seems off to me. I remember the version I watched, he said something more like "I don't want the charred bones I saw to be disappointed in me." meaning, he doesn't want his friend Marco to be disappointed in him - and that's why he joined the Scouts where his chances of dying is a higher probability than in the Military Police which was his and Marco's original goal but because he's in the Scouts he can make more of a difference. In this translation, which I've never seen before, it makes it sound like he just doesn't want to die and have his body mixed up with others. Marco's death has been the driving force for Jean's character development so i don't really like this translation of this scene. I don't know - if anyone knows Japanese maybe you can clear this up.
I'm Japanese. And I can tell you that the version you watched has proper translation than this video's. Jean doesn't want to be disappointed by the people he lost. Especially Marco.
Yeah felt the subs have been off especially that sentence, as you said it completely change how you portray Jean. But the boys have really started to like Jean and didn't see that sentence in a bad light but I have informed them about the true translation so thank you! =) have been working on a solution for the upcoming episodes ^^
I like how you guys who have watched the show don't react or give anything away when Joakim and Niklas have speculations or questions, no "that'll be explained later" that I've seen in other reaction vids. I just hope that they make it to the end with no spoilers.

Are these subtitles different to the ones you actually watched? Just for editing purposes maybe? Cause the translations here are REALLY bad, they even translated the name of the guys horse wrong, it’s Shallot not Sharretto or whatever the heck it said
sadly not in this one, in a few others i have. lets just say there were reasons we had to change, but i have fixed so it's more correct for future episodes
