By listening to this song, as I have over and over again for the past 35 or so years (though not as often as I used to), I am "bringing sounds of yesterday into my city room." And with those sounds come memories, mostly of where I lived in the country. As a teenager I would often sit outside under the sparse shade of tall oak trees in the summertime, while listening to this album playing inside the house. The peaceful, relaxing rise and fall of the guitar as it was played on this song would drift out the back door of our house to where I sat. And all around me golden sunflakes were covering the ground.
I work as a Forestry Tech in North Carolina and this song is the soundtrack of my day in the woods, with the birds, bee, and trees. A river of green is sliding unseen beneath the trees.
this reminds of my childhood vacation house that we had to sell when I was 12. The day we sold it I swore I would live there again someday. We had a huge field where we would sit around the fire. a river not to far of to fish. Best of all was how secluded it was. The best summers of my life were spent in that house. I just wish I could have those times again. Thank you pink floyd for making some of the best memory filled times of my life able to be remembered by your music.
Glorious piece of music. Sad to see that >200 million people have listened to Rick Astley "Never gonna give you up" and many other music videos but less than half a million people have watched most of the Pink Floyd's videos. This is the sound of an English summer, bliss.
I absolutely 💯 ♥️ LOVE ♾️ ❤️ This Beautiful Song 🎵 ❤️ and I bought Ummagumma in about 78 I think 🤔 ❤️ anyway it is a very Beautiful Pink Floyd album too ❤️ 💕 💖 💗 😊 🌟 ❤️ 🦄 🌟 ❤️ 😍 🎉
You must hear this wearing headphones. Then you will know what stereo is - right up to the last buzzing fly. Unfortunately they cut this version about 2 seconds short where they acousticly smash the ply with the newspaper on your forehead - on the inside!
I think it was because that part marks the exact point where the song changes to "Several Species of Small Furry Animals..." but yeah, the man chasing down the fly sounds amazing with ear/headphones.
in the summer I do the deejay on a Greek island; no one knows where the music I choose comes from, in the sense that they do not understand exactly to which place and time the songs belong; it is not easy, there are few things of the 20th century (not symphonic music) that are eternal, out of time; this song is ... even the younger kids listen to this atmosphere and it seems to them that it is being played at this very moment...
+Jersey John -- You have the gentle spirit that is lacking in most of humanity. If only we could infuse the seekers of material gewgaws with it. The world would be a better place.
Happy Birthday Roger Waters (September 6) "Icy wind of night be gone this is not your domain In the sky a bird was heard to cry. Misty morning whisperings and gentle stirring sounds Belied the deathly silence that lay all around. Hear the lark and hearken to the barking of the dog fox Gone to ground. See the splashing of the kingfisher flashing through the water. And a river of green is sliding unseen beneath the trees Laughing as it passes through the endless summer Making for the sea. In the lazy water meadow I lay me down. All around me golden sun flakes settle on the ground. Basking in the sunshine of a bygone afternoon Bringing sounds of yesterday into this city room."
+deakon Dextre Yeah, only track on that side that's not a mess of horrible noise. Several Species is terrible, even a Black Micro Dot can't help it sound good.
jebstewart666 The song continues into the next song, "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict". If you were to listen to the entire album start to finish, you would get the full effect.
Shaman Man even more exactly correct! but my reference was that the actual swatting/smashing sound is missing. right before it goes into several species. i eventually found one that had the whole track.

one of my favorite pink Floyd songs
This is perhaps the most beautiful music I've ever heard in my life.
+Veal Slab Lyrics: Roger Waters. Music: Roger Waters. Personnel: Roger Waters.
+Veal Slab The most pinkfloydist song of Pink Floyd.

The best sound of ummagumma!

Bringing sounds of yesterday into this city room...
the sound that takes us to the fields is that skylark
I hope they get my sincere thanks for having recorded this song.
Reminds me so much of my childhood in the country and down by the river and in Sycamore Creek during the summer. Ahhhhhhh........

I love when Rogers voice dubs over itself towards the end. So melodic, I love it
(No flies were harmed during the recording of this track)
A beautiful song...thanks for posting!
Beautiful. Thank you
Careful with that fly, Eugene.
:-D
This is one of the best Floyd jokes I've ever read.
Very calming, soothing music
I never had this album, and this song is very good.

The summer is here

we'll be jamming with floyd In heaven
You're an idiot
Oh, how I wish I could time travel.
this music makes me want to skip through a field of poppies chasing a butterfly....or something

You will need a good system to hear the kids playing and laughing through this song.

BRAVO! :)
Best song on Ummaguma's second side.
+deakon Dextre Yeah, only track on that side that's not a mess of horrible noise. Several Species is terrible, even a Black Micro Dot can't help it sound good.
+trip2themoon several species is fun!
+trip2themoon Blue Windowpane worked!!
Paul Gaillardet II
Dad told me that he used to trip out on windowpane, and microdots while listening to Hendrix
Simply terrific song....what else should I say?
Back before big business infected music.
You want a fact, you're an idiot.
+koichi Ball Sorry I guess my comment was kind of rude. I just thought it is quite obvious that big business has a choke hold on the music.
this one cut off the most important part! the ending!
jebstewart666 The song continues into the next song, "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict". If you were to listen to the entire album start to finish, you would get the full effect.

The ambient sounds are here only because the two guitars would be too boring aahah.
its all pink

You're joking, of course.
