First time I heard “A Pillow of Winds”. I was 17. I spent the summer of “81” out in California. Me, my cousin and her boyfriend. We were crashing out in her living room. We were exhausted after a long day at the beach. I remember them falling asleep on the couch and I put “Meddle” on the stereo turntable. I was so tired from the sun and I dozed off on the floor with a couch cushion under my head listening to this song. It was one of those memories that will last me a lifetime. I was so young and carefree. Wow!!! I really miss those days. “ Meddle”would always be my favorite album from that time on.

I was 16 in 1981 when I also got Meddle in cassette format. My 2 brothers and myself had spent a weekend tearing up the asphalt driveway next to our house to be replaced by a concrete one. It was hard work. We used this very heavy and large drill type of tool. It must have weighed nearly 100lbs. We would lift it with our hands and let the pointy end drop and it would break up the asphalt. We were paid for our work and with the money I got Meddle and coincidentally Ummagumma which contains Grantchester Meadows. These two songs have always been 2 of my favorite acoustic pieces. This was really the beginning of my discovery of Pink Floyd and their music in terms of me actually owning any of it for myself. However the first song I ever heard by them was Run Like Hell. It was fall of '79 and my brothers and I were invited by our next door neighbor to a football game at our high school as he was the only one old enough to drive. This played on the radio. I believe this was the 1st single they released from The Wall. This would have been late September '79. I was instantly a fan. Thanks for sharing your story and stay safe and healthy in these crazy times.

Way back, a college friend of mine and I went to Denver and discovered that we had been locked out of the apartment in which we were to stay. So we did anything two young men in a strange city would do, we dropped acid. After a crazy time of navigating city parks and avoiding the cops, we finally found the neighbor with the key. My friend was an excellent guitarist and he started riffing on Pink Floyd songs. I remember drifting off to very colorful dreams as he played "Is There Anybody Out There."

@Sean Busch In all honesty and truth,my friend,Richard Wright didn't play a single note , on the grandiose tale of epoch tragedy and misery, that was the musical masterpiece:"THE WALL ".According 2 the microscopic detail of
the book"Echoes-the stories behind every Pink Floyd song "by author Cliff Jones(1996);keyboardist Rick Wright,
dealing with personal health issues related to his cocaine addiction, was unable 2 contribute 2 recording, and was "ousted "from the band,by both Roger Waters and David Gilmour.Subsequently, all the keyboards were played and recorded by Roger Waters ,and producer Bob Ezrin.Additionaly, all of the organ pieces, were played and recorded by session wizard Freddy Mandell. There is a lyrical reference to Rick Wright,on the song"Nobody Home ",which begins with Water's shouting,"I got a little black book with my poems in!"The line of lyric is as follows "...I've got a grand piano to prop-up my mortal remains..." I hope this information satisfies U,as to the players of the keyboards,4 the recorded album. I am an immense fan of Pink Floyd's canonical work, and 2 me,
"The Wall"is the most important ambitious conceptual Artwork,in the history of recorded music.Thank U4 your valuable time.✨🎼🙏🏼🎼✨🇨🇦

Belied the deathly silence that lay all around

I first saw the Floyd back in1970 on the continent. Truely an utterly mesmerizing, magical and life changing experience :-)Thanks forever David, Richard, Nick & Roger! Those were the days when Roger was smiling and joking on stage with David, radiating a warm, benevolent athmosphere of adventure and bliss! Lucky to have caught them then and there a couple of times :-)
    Thanks so much for uploading!

wow; I was eleven years old way back then. Funny, I heard dark side when I was 13 or 14. Didn't really click in for me till about '75 with Wish. then it's all back after that. Unless you're into Roger. But ya, fine band for a time.

It's such a shame what happened to Roger. It's like The Wall revealed the internal battles he was having with fame.... and he lost. He alienated the 3 people who were closest to him in the world because he thought HE was Pink Floyd. The other 3 proved him wrong. In a way, it's more tragic than what happened to Syd, because Syd had no control over what happened to him. Roger's ego grew and grew until he was maniacal about it. Wish they could have been more like Rush and stayed friends.

I was on my early 20 raving hard on a psytrance festival near Roma. This kind of raves are mostly arranged in countryside locations, a meadow near a wood in that case. In the middle of the night me and my girl walked since her car to listen Granchester meadows in a stereo cassette, two tree times and then happy and refreshed we turned again to the rave. I can’t hear the song without remember that night...

You should get ahold of the radio interview recordings where they were interviewed while jamming for the making of DSotM... it revealed a LOT about them and how they think. One of the lines from Richard Wright was when he was asked if they are dependent on the tech.... he said (something to the effect) that "It plays a part in what we do, we couldn't do what we do without it... but if we didn't have it, I still think we would put on a good show." Classic.

Thank you for posting I've never seen this video before.
Floyd can dig deep and find emotions you didn't know you had. The chord structure within their music is like none other.
I purchased my first 8-track of them in 67. And then proceeded to collect all their music ever since. Including the theme from More, which has never been opened.
Although all of Ummagumma always traveled with me whether it was on 8-track or cassette. It was a staple on camping trips. Along with Atom Heart Mother, Animals Wish You Here and Metal. Almost of Pink Floyd's recordings traveled with me all the time. At one point they had their own Briefcase full of cassettes.
But this song resonates with nature. Several species of small furry animals gathered in the cave to Groove to the picket was one along with sheep used to freak everyone out. Especially listening at night when I'd hang speakers from the trees. We even partyed nearly a quarter mile into a cave and we had to listen to Floyd. Lol.
Now for the last 25 years when we camp it's under the wing of my plane. Guess what goes along with us? You got it! Floyd, I'm one of the few who actually has a Kick-Butt stereo in a bush plane. When most people count every ounce I added two amps 12in subwoofer and 4 -- 8 in speakers in the wings although when I'm flying I'm usually listening in headphones.

I remember, it was my first day of freedom. I took my last class of high school the day before. I went to see Pink Floyd at Iver Wynne Stadium in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. It June 28th 1975. I was a little sick of getting high. ( Yes, I had done that quite often). I met a former teacher there and blew a number with him. Said to myself this will be the last time. For all intents and purposes, it was. This small but life changing event happened around 2:00 PM. The concert started at 8:00 PM. The concert was one of the best concerts I've ever seen to this day, and I take in two to three concerts a week. ( Less during Covid) I was just in seventh heaven but it was during the encore, Echoes, that the greatly anticipated guitar solo was handled by Dick Perry, of course on Saxophone. Blew my young mind and I will never forget it. Thank you Pink Floyd! Thank you Dick Perry. My memory faculty has always been highly developed but even so, this comes to me with perfect clarity. It would be hard to imagine a more original band.
