XD this was 3 years ago my dudes. I had JUST gotten back into yugioh, this was my first day back using this program. Everyone has their own tastes. I like classic yugioh, before GX. This new yugioh is an entirely different game now. Chill. Both are good in their own respects.

      I beg to differ
I'm a classic player too but Synchros and Token Summons seemed to have break the game/win a game within 2 turns
Even my best strategies in using a classic deck only had me last until Turn 10...but then again if been trying to get back into things with Yugioh Duel Links
But stuff like this kinda makes me happy I didn't money on real cards

cheers man. same here. I play retro yugioh. My boss monster is Enraged Muka Muka. The oldschool yugioh pace is much better. It's like chess in that there is a setup, mid game and the finale or end game. You set your stuff up for a couple turns then trade off points and build your field and then finale you reach the finale where one mistake from either side could end it. Then you have turn 2 yugioh. No thanks.

    • @cheetah219
      @cheetah219 3 роки тому +28

The difference was that both people had 50 card jank decks (or 40 ... Or 60...or 80) and so it was figuring out who can get to their most powerful creatures first.
But in all seriousness, there were mini engines in place and it was about timing your counters and stopping your opponent from being able to play their creatures and then come back. My friend had an amazing zombie deck that had great graveyard recursion. I typically had a dragon deck that was beefed up by dragons, buster blader, fusion monsters with dark paladin, dragon master knight, etc.
There were engines in place (like using sangan to search for lord of D, playing summoning flute , getting my blue eyes out and then sacrificing it or fusion summoning off of it, etc).
You also have summoned skull and red eyes decks, etc in the early days. My buddy actually figured out yata lock on his own before it was banned and locked me up and I was "like holy shit, you need to compete because you figured out an instant win).
Back in the day, it was all about ... An actual reading card game, stealing our parents money to rip packs in his room, trading cards for Gemini elf to get the 1900 beatstick out etc. Was it perfect? No. But there was a community of unpredictable decks and styles.
I scroll through the comments even in this video and people know exactly every card in his deck and how to counter. The surprise in the game is done. Back then, you could face someone new, ask them what they had and if they said "dragons" you were like "shit. That could be anything" could be blue eyes, could be dragon cannon, could be a magicians dragon deck, or a bunch of low level dragons. It was genuinely a surprise

Classic YGO to new YGO is like going from simple math to geometry. If you played the game throughout the years step by step, it makes sense, but for returning players it's jumping all those steps and being overwhelmed. You need to learn about all the meta decks and the combos people abuse like shown in this video. Yeah, the old beauty of the game's simplicity is gone, and in its place is a game that requires large amounts of time and your soul just to understand everything. I'm not even going into how expensive it is to build a good deck in real life. It's as though the Seal of Orichalcos is the game itself now - and that's why people are pissed.

It's not about that. If someone can win in one round then what's the point of calling it a duel?! It should be about both players having fun regardless if they're using a deck full of ''jank''. Oldschool yugioh has many monsters that are trash and it's still better than modern ''yugioh''. That's not a yugioh game anymore, it's a puzzle! • @Liathrys
      @Liathrys 3 роки тому +18

@@Tsiribreezes should your opponent feel bad about you losing because your deck didn't have much synergy compared to theirs? I mean, if we're being honest here, GOAT decks are considered jank decks in today's standards. Sure, they might have worked before, but the meta game have already been way past that. If losing makes you upset then try to build a strategy that can actually win, that's the most sensible solution to that problem, because the game won't pity you for you choosing to be nostalgic. And if anything, that exact mindset is the reason why Konami keeps pandering to nostalgia.

My biggest problem is not about being unbalanced (fucking Raigeki was in the L.O.B.E.W.D), is more 'bout how compo-based the game has become. The luck factor is almost non existent in some decks cause you can combo half your deck first turn, and is always something "Wow, Y cards brings X card, then X card has an effect when is brought just the way it was by Y card and" you got me. Is not from today, Elemental Heroes and other Archetypes were combo based, but now is just too much, at least for me. The real difference is the speed of the game. First eras of yugioh, you had fusion summons and ritual summons, both requiring a spell card and 2 monsters to get 1 monster on the field, relatively few special summons besides that, very limited interactions with the deck and graveyard, you could only get so much on the field at a time.
Nowadays, special summoning into interactions with the deck and graveyard are 100% standard for any decent deck. Extra deck mechanics have become more and more generic (2 specific monsters+spell, tuner+non-tuner adding to right level, same level, between certain levels while pendulum zones are active, possibly as generic as having a single monster on the field.) This is why hand traps became a thing, because it became SO easy to swarm the battlefield with combo pieces and negates on your first turn before your opponent could play a single card.

yeah, I think that's the big thing i don't like about modern yugioh. In the past, it felt like individual monsters mattered. Some of the comments here are hilarious. When I watched the video I was like "wtf did he expect, bringing old and bad cards (even back in the day some of those cards sucked) to the modern format?" I don't get it. If you refuse to go along with the evolution of the game, then of course you will be crushed. Like... What? But some of the comments here suggest that some people actually feel like the game should revert to caveman YGO, to which I say : just play goat format then, and stop complaining about change

There are tons of old cards that still see play like solemn judgement, Raigeki, monster reborn or even mirror force, and that doesn't make them unplayable. But there is no doubt that the game has been power crept to the point where even the most fearsome decks of the old formats like chaos or teledad would be jokes even compared to the modern casual decks

Pfff that's a stupid comment. Yu-gi-oh used to be about duels, not who has the goat format. I want MY format. I don't care who plays what and where... And that's the problem with the modern yugioh. Nobody plays for fun anymore and people play so ''mechanically''. You get three cards of this and three cards of that and boom you win round one! It's not even a duel anymore, it's a puzzle!

  • @PinoHolly04
    @PinoHolly04 3 роки тому +11

Besides what the video shows i think that the real problem is of how effect works, like i always liked the Stardust dragon effect because it is a negate but it has a specific protection effect, it doesnt stop your opponent from play but it defends you, so like its a negate but only works if your opponent has something to damage you ( its not like it stops the first effect that the opponent use and just like that he cant play anymore).
So yeah i think that monster effects should be less like "if your opponent tries to play you can negate it" and more like "if your opponents tries to damage you somehow you can negate it"
Its like comparing shooting star dragon to cosmic blazar,
Shooting star is like: "if your opponents attack..."
And "if your opponent activate an effect that would destroy...."
    Cosmic blazar is like:
"If your opponent activates or tries to do something you can negate"
    So yep thats my opinion

Defensive negates make for a much more interesting game than negates that lock your opponent out of their entire turn. The thing is that an old deck Wont be viable unless you upgrade It with newer cards, thats what *support cards* is all about, dark magician, blue eyes, dragón link, dinos, etc are viable because they got support for their archetype, if you dont want to play something specific just use the Monster type you preffer and make something that actually has sinergy, you have something for all the types of Monsters, so you Will allways have something to play, even if you like gemini they got support, its not a shitty Game, its an evolving Game and you have to evolve with It so that you dont fall behind

I've come to the conclusion that yu-gi-oh is a mess because they fucked with summoning. If you play magic the gathering you will know that the mana system sets a standard for summoning, 1. it never changes, 2. it sets a precedent for the cards power and toughness based on the level. This was supposed to be how yu-gi-ohs star system worked. The problem is that the star system becomes null and void when you make the requirements for summoning monsters easier and easier in terms of synchro and pendulums.
Most people you play in magic even if they're really good will probably not win till turn 5 and that is consistent from year to year because they kept the standard and instead to keep the game fresh they changed what the cards did, not how they were summoned. deathtouch, lifelink, enrage, cycle, coven, etc. The thing is Magic cards from back in the day still hold their value and aren't garbage because they can still be played today. magic may at times have power creep but the mana system in itself prevents it.
Yu-gi-oh has no power creep prevention and therefore all your old cards are trash and you need to keep buying new ones. Also since there is no alternate formats if say I wanted to play "Historic Yu-gi-oh" I'm out of luck because no such thing exists. Magic has a very play how you want mentality which makes it a much more enjoyable experience. Yu-Gi-Oh is a bunch of sweaty losers criticizing you for playing what you like because it's "garbage" or "trash tier". I want to enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh but inevitably I think that it's slowly dying as they keep pushing away new players with their bullshit. Magic is as simple a concept now as it was 20 years ago and is welcoming to old and new players alike while Yu-Gi-Oh shuts the door on new players and tells them to "git gud" because their game is intentionally broken and they refuse to fix it or else they'll upset the mother's basement dwellers.

The big difference to me Is not that I can't understand the game mechanics they just ARE NOT FUN and thus not worth investing the time into.. and heres why:
Its not fun watching someone play solitaire because you don't have enough hand traps in your hand to stop what they are doing.
Its not fun to watch someone shuffle their deck a 6 times a turn, special summon 4 to 5 monsters and just kill you out right because in their combo they have removal for everything you could have in play like the clip you see there.
Its not fun ending a game on turn 2 no matter what the outcome because it doesn't leave any room for long term decision making or card advantage or VARIANCE.
Its boring to play against decks because they only do one or two things very consistently and every game ends the same way, or in a concession because you interrupted their value combo stopping it in their tracks and they are unwilling to participate in any line of play that isn't finishing their combo.
Its IMHO a shitty gaming experience.

I get that the game is way more complex, fast, and difficult now. And I would be an idiot if I said the meta doesn’t have problems. But honestly the game is not even close to dying.
Just look at the tcg financials. The new online tcg/ocg game coming out is only going to help.
If you want to play slow, multi turn games: play Mgt, hearthstone, or just play old formats of yugioh online.
But the whole reason me and my friends like yugioh is BECAUSE of how fast it is. We can literally build a deck and test hands and combos in seconds. Every other card game you have to wait so long to try anything exciting . I don’t want to wait 5 thirty turn games before I figure out if my deck concept works.
Honestly I can not fault a single person who doesn’t want to play modern yugioh. But you criticizing it while not even playing makes you sound like an American criticizing soccer.

Sure you can have as advanced player a lot of underappreciated decks but it means nothing, because you are actually doomed facing a competitive deck with a non-competitive deck.

Even the combo decks you're talking about are going to lose every single game if they go for the exact same play every game. Some people have never experienced their board being literally gunned down by Dark Armed Dragon and Magical Scientist, being hand looped by x3 Dustshoot, Confiscation, Duo, and Sentry, and being Yata-Locked, and it really shows in the comments.

That's because the "old YGO" they talk about was about playing anime or casual decks at a friend's house or local, but don't realize that the competitive side of "old YGO" was the same as modern YGO.

They need to add more life points in this game to make it last for more fun cause your ether locked and can't play or you lose if you go first by getting OTK.

Wouldn't make that much of a difference, a full dragon link board with borrelsword per say could easily push for over 8000, plus they'd probably have to rebalance some cards and would be a hassle overall and would make burn decks in any shape or form completely unviable.

To the people still not reading my pinned comment, just keep sharing and viewing and giving me more views lmao 🤣
I have nothing against new or old Yu-Gi-Oh. Yu-Gi-Oh has evolved into an entirely different card game and that's ok. Both are ok in their own respects.
My deck was bad because (like I said in the pinned comment) this was my first day back and first battle lol.
I was rusty to say the least. I got all magic and trap, that happens sometimes.

I mean this in the nicest way possible. You might get less hate in the comments if you titled the video titling the video "I used to play yugioh for fun but yugioh is not fun for me anymore".
Maybe you played yugioh with friends in your neighborhood for fun and it was fun (it looks like you were playing a burn deck?) but it looks like your opponent was trying to win not hangout with friends in the neighborhood. Even if you play "old yugioh" (or the Goat format) you will find that most competitive old yuigoh always had "win-ish by turn 3" decks.
Your problem with yugioh was always a thing but you probably didn't see it before because the people and decks you played with and against were different. You said it was your first time back so hopefully, if you played ranked, you will rank down to your level and play against other players who are using for fun decks or other players that will be fun for you.

"Giving me views" you have less than 1000 subs. So views mean nothing.
