After coming to prominence as the frontman of the Mercury Prize-winning Klaxons, recording with Arctic Monkeys, and crafting his Shock Machine project, James Righton released his debut solo album ‘The Performer’ on March 20th, 2020.
Visually, the project finds Righton playing up the role of ‘The Performer’ as depicted in the title track’s video. Filmed by Hugo Campan at DEEWEE, it’s a stylized take on perennial glamour - Righton’s charismatic performance matched by his classic white Gucci suit and an array of vintage equipment. It will also form the basis for the stage set for his upcoming shows in support of the album.
“I was really interested in the idea of using a live performance as the basis for a music video,” explains Hugo. “We even recorded James’ performance of the song to use to make it as close as possible to his live show. I wanted the video to delve into what music is at its most existential point: a human performance and a live experience. James is a great showman. He has so much energy, attitude and style. We filmed 43 consecutive takes to create something unique, and by the end of the process it drifted into a kind of abstract, surreal MTV performance.”

alan6 I was at the farewell gig - it was a strange one - no one seemed to know who the hell they were
100% YOTA released a single that sounds a little like the Klaxons last album, without the spiritual kick or as much voice power, and it made me sad. Seems like those two were the sauce, James & Jamie.

I miss their stuff so much. It was the first gig I went to, saw them in Hammersmith back in 2010 I believe. I think I actually have a video of it on my channel.

The melody is almost a note for note rip off of Foreigner's song 'Cold as Ice'. They should sue.

You don't know the difference between a melody and a riff. The melody is NOTHING like "Cold as Ice" and the riff only has a passing similarity.

What an intensely bland song... it’s not bad, just some kind of Arctic Monkeys meets Stereophonics overly clean mess. The whole song is it’s own misnomer
