A big storm blew through our property. We lost a few trees and our power. Plus the bathroom project is re-started and the donkeys are hungry.

Welcome to Our French Chateau!
We are Amanda and Lincoln. With our two daughters and pets in tow, we moved across the world from our home in San Francisco California to buy and restore a petite chateau on 40 acres in the beautiful French countryside of Brittany.
Our channel documents our triumphs and failures in restoring the 19th-century Chateau de Lingourdy. We plan to return the gardens, cottages and barns to their former glory (on a tight budget) and open them up for events and luxurious stays to the public. So if you're interested in observing daily life through the eyes of an American family whose French language skills are quite lacking and who have amassed a menagerie that includes cats, dogs, and donkeys. Please join us...

@@nathanfaulkner6797 It’s interesting that whenever we receive a comment from you it’s always a negative one. We’ve never replied or deleted them, our policy, best to ignore, but my gosh, you seem quite miserable. Hope you have some joy in your life somewhere :)
@@nathanfaulkner6797 I think they are just regular people trying to help the cats in a bad situation without it causing stress on their own finances . What makes you think they are wealthy? Sure they sold out in San Francisco so probably maybe could have made a little nest egg . But life in France ain’t free dude . They have kids and expenses and donkeys to feed . So give a few bucks to the cats and a thumbs up on the videos and try a little good will in your next comments . Or maybe find another channel out of the 60 godtrillion to choose from .
@Nathan Faulkner hey misery guts. Don't you know that cats lives matter. Now take a chill pill.😊😊😊
@@nathanfaulkner6797 chateau owning and wealth really don’t go together…by their very nature owning a chateau is wealth draining. Look it up in the Oxford dictionary - under ‘chateau’ the second definition is ‘notorious wealth draining properties’. Come on Nathan - its for kitties.
@@OurFrenchChateau You seriously need to block him.
The cat nip was hysterical 😭
❤😂 I'm so laughing at the kitties at the end of the video ❤
I planted catnip for the cats and the male goat decided it was too irresistible to ignore. Pretty soon he was acting paranoid and goofy. I only wish I had captured it on video. He got up on my grandson’s jungle gym and tried to hide. Maybe he thought I called the police on him. Hilarious! 😂
There's so many things about you two that remind me of my husband and I! We have always taken in stray kitties, I used to have a rooster named Dominick (sadly, a hawk got him one day 😢). I had about 30 wild Muscovy ducks that decided they wanted to live on our proprty for two years. They were sooooo much fun! Sweet birds with great personalities. I feed the wild birds on my 2.5 acres, as well as the squirrels. I have also planted lots of flowers for the hummingbirds and butterflies. We built a 24 ft x 24 ft garden enclosure with raised beds for growing veggies. I'm also growing a pineapple, I have figs on my fig tree for the first time this year, I have a mulberry bush & am growing strawberries too. My husband and I LOVE to build things, restore things, paint, you name it. The list goes on and on. The only problem is.... we live in Florida. I'd much rather live in a chateau!! I just love watching your videos! Oh, I hear a big rumble. I think a rocket just went up over at Kennedy Space Center! Anyway, I would give my eye teeth, so to speak, to be able to live in, and restore, a chateau! Then, I could actually have an art studio to paint in, and sew, and refinish furniture & do other things I love. My husband could actually have a wood working shop. We have no outbuildings on our property, with the exception of two sheds. Permitiing is a pain, and you have to engineered plans drawn up for anything you want to do, which is expensive. So, we do what we can. 😊 Please keep up the videos! I can live vicariously through you!! ❤
Oh yes, catnip addiction is real. That brought back memories. Thanks for the comic relief.👏
Good for you, have a glass of wine and then look at the schedule. You have a very big project, cats, dogs, donkey and chateau. Who could keep everything going at once. Take a break and then go back.
Lincoln's patience is so inspiring and admirable!!!
You are the stewards of so many majestic trees. A noble responsibility.
I really hope your channel takes off, I really enjoy your content and dry wit.
The catnip scene!!!! LOLOLOLOL
😂😂😂waffle…catnip everywhere! 😊
I just love your vlogs. Always so interesting and very amusing. I adore all the animals you care for. Keep them coming. x
Thanks :)
Thank goodness Lincoln retrieved the drone from the drone eating tree last week because your drone shots this week are fantastic. Never a dull moment at the château. Are you not glad you moved to France ? Adventures every day. Your running an opium (catnip) den for cats ? Wow!
😂
Love your sense of humor Amanda.❤
Best narration in the chateauverse!
I enjoyed this visit! All of your pets are precious!
Thank you so much!
All your animals are cool and confident. Even the donkeys are walking with a swagger. They just know they are loved and cared for by their family.
Amanda, I have quite large perennial gardens as well as a number of raised beds for vegetables and cut flowers (Mostly flowers, to be honest! 😁) No way can I stay on top of weeding. So in the raised beds I lay down black plastic, made for the purpose, and cut holes in it for my plants. It retains moisture and eliminates weeds. I happen to plant densely so it doesn't even show. If I'm sowing a row of seeds I just cut a slit, pull back the edges a bit and bury them. You might try this for a small portion of your garden and see how it works for you. Another technique for large plants like tomatoes is to lay a few layers of newspaper between them and mulch over it. Anything to reduce the weeding!
🤩The countryside in the intro is really beautiful!! 💕
Hope that the plus side to your tree fall means you have enough wood for next winter! Do hope the coming weeks are less stress ridden and Spring lifts your spirits.
😊
Thank you for the uplifting videos.
Just FYI.....Protecting Queen's Escape from Squatters | Queen's Escape........a UA-cam video by Chateau Owners about being targeted by "Squatters" in France....
I just love the Donkeys. Sweet faces both of them. ❤❤❤❤
Wow that was some storm. I’m sorry about the damage and the power outages. Life…. Right. Your love and kindness for all animals is just so nice. My father taught me when I was a child I should probably stay away from people who don’t care for animals or children. I’m in my 60’s now and I can tell you he was right. My brother has a wildlife cam he had a feral cat on his property , it took about a year to get him to acclimate but now he spent his first winter curled up on their laps in front of the fireplace. The vet estimated he’s about 14 , diabetic as well . But he’s being treated and responding great. The cam is fun when deer appear and put there noses on the lens. Wine in the walled garden at sunset… you deserve that ! Hope Lincoln is feeling better 🕊🍷
Thanks Mary 😺
I love your sense of humour! Love your videos and your love for all cats! We have three strays out where we live...one we call Scraggels, one we call "Grey" ( who had been declawed and then dumped out here in the middle of the woods to fend for himself....without claws!!!) And last but not least One Eye whose name says it all...poor trio.😿
Thanks :) Oh no! A declawed cat. Breaks my heart, they have no way cope outside.
That storm was really bad. Glad things are back to normal. The French utilities seem really good at repairs. Sconces look really nice. Hopefully Lincoln can fix that glitch. Garden will get sorted but no stress. It's still early. Glad the cat fund is growing. Good cause. Stay safe until the next one.
You two are so brave and skilled! Take one thing at the time, like your animals do!
Fun vlog! Bummer about the storm, but fortunately, the buildings weren't damaged. OMG, gotta get those cats to rehab, oh, oh, oh... 🤣
Those kitties sure do like their cat nip?😻 Work at whatever makes you happiest! I’ll watch it no matter what it is. Thank you for all your hard work! Take care, and be safe.
And we too have our addictions to modern conveniences and entertainment that you are providing us with. Thank you!
The color on the wall(s) that Lincoln is putting the sconces on is really beautiful!
Thank you :)
Love the animals, those kitty’s were in heaven 😂
Nick the tree surgeon helping at Lalande will rescue your woods. ❤🇿🇦
That heavy windstorm had its landfall here in the Southwest of Ireland, friends lost their polytunnel. Then it went to the Uk, where it caused even more damage, and then apparently it moved to France. So sorry for that amount of bad luck again! - From one of those storms we once were left without internet connection for about 3 weeks, the main booking season for our then hiking and aromatherapy weeks. We had a PA at that time, and she drove to town daily to check the incoming mails in an internet café (we're just outside a tiny village in the middle of nowhere). For that reason I had invested in two eco flow batteries and a portable solar panel (20 kg), so I have a power supply for a few days, if sunny even more (sun, what's that?!)
Wow! I've never experienced such wind in all my life since moving here. I loved it at first, then realized... THE TREES! Must look into those Eco Flow batteries.
I live in rural Victoria, Australia, and we get power outages fairly regularly. A massive storm two years ago left us without power (or internet) for a whole week - it was extremely difficult because we don’t even have water when the power is out, relying on electric pumps to pump water from the tanks to the house, and from the dam to the animals’ water troughs. It was like being back in the Middle Ages! We just wanted to pack up and go live in a hotel (we were dying for a hot shower) until the power was back, but we couldn’t leave the animals.
Anyway, I’ve just bought myself an Ecoflow battery and solar panel, so feel much more prepared for the next outage.
Gardening and wine: the perfect combination! Enjoy!
Love the cat’s!
The catnip incidence had me laughing out loud!😂
Love your home, grounds, and always your video’s!👍👏👏👏😸😸😸😸😸
I can't imagine getting power back on in 24 hrs. How wonderful. The wall sconces are beautiful. I look forward to seeing how the remaining length of the cover is solved.
Animal antics get me every time. ❤
Looks like everyone in France showed up to make sure your daughters got back online!!!
🤣
Good to see Lincoln engaged again. Also, love your wall color.
Hi from Florida! Get yourself a propane burner, like for camping, and a French press. Being in hurricane prone area, you learn really quickly how to have the essentials, like coffee & tea! Great progress on things. Slow & steady wins the race😊
You should be worried that catnip is a gateway drug! 😂😻
Cat Nip is Cat Cocaine... my cats go bonkers too. 🤣 great videos... even the ups and downs of life. Blessings.
I love these two addicted cats! It’s like watching footage of an 18th century opium den or something. The chateau’s more sordid history emerges😂
😂
Never a dull moment for you guys 😂
So happy to see your channel growing each week.
What a mess that storm made of your trees.
Love the bathroom color and sconces.
I’m thinking the GoFundMe might have to go towards Waffle and Fluffy’s rehab stay.
Enjoying your vlogs and sense of humor
Maine USA
Oh my heavens - never seen such a large amount of catnip - it’s the motherlode! Great vlog as always - you are both due some luck - here’s to a good Spring! Re gardening - I’d attach a picture of my rather neglected greenhouse if I could - it would certainly help you to feel comfortable about adjusting your expectations. Love from northern England, Steph
Thanks so much! 😊
Waffle, you're a mess! But you're still my favorite...
So happy to see Lincoln back at it.
Love your vlogs, your sense of humor, watching all the beautiful renovations to the chateau and gardens and your unwavering heart for caring for animals! Glad to see that hubs is doing better! The cats are obviously catnip junkies! Cheers!
I’m glad Lincoln is well enough to be doing electrics.
You make me laugh girl! ❤
I wonder if you could find two brass rings that would fit below the original cover cuz they do look better... y'all do a wonderful job! The last bit about the cats is hilarious and so true!!!🤪💖
I live vicariously through you. I love your country life and videos. Sending positive vibes from Albuquerque NM. (And LOL on the Paris cats smoking)
Sorry about the trees. We have large trees around our house and are concerned as well. Great chateau content and music selection. The animals are awesome. Catnip😂
So good to see Lincoln feeling better and getting back in the saddle. Dominick and the cats are as cute as ever ! Love watching your channel!
So glad Lincoln is back in action. He has such a calm presence about him.
Thank you for the bit on the cats at the end LOL. That made my day! 🤣
Glad you didn't have any wind damage at the Chateau. I love trees but you have a big problem when limbs start to fall or a tree is rotten, right now we have a lot of limbs to pick up and burn, we haven't been able to recently because it's been so wet.. Hugs, Kathy USA 🇺🇸
I soooo enjoy your channel. Your dry humour is wonderful… I share your love of animals so that is equally special and Lincoln’s dry, slow character I adore as well. Hope you keep going for many a year
Now you can chop the tree, let it dry for two years and then put it in the woodburner to heat the châtheau. Regards from the Belgian Eifel region.
The reason the new lamp holders don’t screw all the way is that they are 10mm thread and a lot of older French fittings were 11mm thread.
You can use the crummy outside layer of the hay to put around plants. During the dry season, it helps keep the ground from drying out so fast. Also, it eventually breaks down and becomes mulch.
I’m enjoying your channel. You need an arborist to evaluate your big old trees & take down the diseased trees especial the trees nearest to essential power, phone,& internet lines to prevent a repeat performance. We’ve recently been in your situation because of a big storm. We lost power when lightning hit transformers on our power grid. We waited 3 days for power to be reconnected. We also had branches from a diseased Ash tree fall onto our roof damaging shingles . Here in Quebec, Canada we’ve seen CRAZY high winds, & 2wks ago we got a month’s worth of rain in one day. Weird weather is occurring all over the world. Best wishes to both of you in your many endeavours at your château.
Cats also LOVE dry valerian root!
Loved your video!! The catnip addiction is real! I’ve lots of catnip in the garden, our cat loves it! I created a special ‘lounge’ aria’s for several cats.. big garden pot (preferably nice to look at) plat it with catnip and place it in a lovely sunny place! Instant summer catbed! ☀️ 🐈
Love that!
The black lightbulb holder usually comes with an adjustment screw that you can losen and push the black bulb holder down.
Waffle and Fluffy are about to be the first to enter your new rehab program! 🤣 Glad to hear your house was missed by all of the falling trees and can't wait to see who your camera finds going into the barns.
😹
1. Wow - you were lucky with your trees. Here in tornado country we have to clear the trees ourselves, before the power company will come. A few days ago we had some tornado activity and the cemetery lost its entire line of spruces which divided it from the neighborhood. All in parallel lines. 2. Your drone shots of the countryside are beautiful. 3. HOW did you find music to perfectly sync with Dominic's walking? 4. Waffle and the catnip is hilarious. I have to put the 'nip into canning jars. 5. Great video.
The utility company will charge us. Have no idea how much it will cost 😬
We live in a leafy suburb of Hobart and previously have had many power outages. Fortunately we also had a small camp two burner stove. This meant coffee, with the little Italian coffee pot, tea and also one pot meals: pasta, rice and stews. It was a real godsend. A few years ago the council came around and decimated any tree near the power lines, so now the outages are much less. Possibly you might need one of those power banks that look like an oversized beat box? Good luck and enjoying your vlog. You’ve got great numbers! Regards Susan.
Glad to see Lincoln up and about. Great job on the sconces, they are beautiful! I want to commend you on the drone shots around the chateau....they are wonderful to see, your property is huge! One of my favourite things to see on your channel are all the animals.....they are wonderful!! So glad that you got through the tree issues and have your power back!! Seeing the cats with the catnip at the end reminded me so much of my cats.....what a hoot!! Thank you!
You could contemplate using the discarded outer layer of your bales as a thick mulch layer for your garden.
Lincoln is so smart to rewire all the old fixtures. They are beautiful sconces. I Hope Lincoln is getting stronger everyday!
Oh my the wind! Do you have a neighbor who can recommend someone to help with clean up? With Lincoln just out of the hospital? I’m so sorry. You can deal with the mess, but no way to cook in the dark. The girls will think it’s an adventure. Ours always loved a minor disaster. They would make a tent under a card table and camp. Miss those days 😢😢😢
Your All’e is so beautiful!
Yay, on the cat fund! Let’s keep it going! Next month, another donation for food or whatever you need❤
Yay wine! You live in France. You are smart to give yourself a break on the garden this year.
The Markets are so reasonable in the villages, take some time off.
PS. try a hand held garden rake. Makes faster work on the hay bales. Seen my vet doing that❤
😊
Absolutely love your videos. You both are doing a great job restoring the château. Love your fur babies 😊
BEST WISHES TO YOU
"All's well that ends well?" It seems that there is plenty of stress to go around. Hand it there and keep up the Great work!
...Nice video!...Crazy cats!...😉🤣🤣
Hello Amanda and Lincoln. You two are so funny. You work well as a team. Amanda, don't push your self to get it done. I am still humming and ahhing about my garden too. The drone footage is wonderful, Lincoln. Love your update. Thank you so much for sharing. Love and Blessings to you all. Doris, Penrith 🇦🇺🦘 ❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
Guys Stay positive, all that are normal to happen, very annoying and expensive i'm sure, but the most important is Lincoln are improving is health and you darling still funny. Better days ahead. 😁❤
Have you considered getting an Ecoflow? Most of the chateaux (and many of the sailing and van-life channels) have multiple versions of them to run tools around their grounds, but also invaluable in power outages! They sponsor many channels too.
Well….the drone is working again 🎉
Sure is!
Loved the drone shots of the work being done on the power....great vision.
Hi guys, so happy that you were able to reconnect online quickly, this video was so fun, to see all the animals, I am not a gardener at all, every year I tell myself to get out and plant something. I never do. I can't wait to see what comes up on the nature cameras. Thanks for sharing. Love from N.Y.
I have rescue cats in spain many many sadly can't get any help what so ever!
Humans need catnip too! Well, maybe Wine!
Wow that was a bad storm ; thank God your have so much skill to do so much, Lincoln is a PRO it is a lot of support from him taking all kind of tasks. I love your videos and I wish you a lot luck ! Thank you for sharing ❤
Good that you have some underground power lines. Next might be a generator?
Amanda, thanks for putting together another great video. It's always enjoyable to see what's happening both inside & outside of your beautiful chateau. Don't be too hard on yourself about the garden, it will all come together in its time. Glad to see that Lincoln is feeling better.
Hahaha ❤ waffles to rehab ! STAT
I enjoyed the drone footage.
Great footage. I look forward to your channel each week, wish it was every day. xo from Whakatane, New Zealand
Glad you enjoy it!
Get some thick rubber gaskets and spray gold and place them first and place first, before fake candle sleeve.
Paint them to match the brass!
brass pipe cut to lenght for the light things.
Don't put too much pressure on yourselves. Go at your own pace and don't stress out over all the stuff that isn't done -- celebrate all that you have accomplished. I enjoy your videos and I hope Lincoln is recuperating quickly. You remind me of me in my gardening/yard work. We need to remember to relax and enjoy the fresh air, the things blooming, and some great wine. :)
CHILLAX! (Wine, catnip and gardening!) who is the resident artist? Love the Paris smoking cat.
Love the color of your walls with the new/old sconces. do you mind sharing?
Nice garden Amanda! I’d love to see you show us how you use your garden produce as the season progresses - glad your chilling a bit too!
Great video 👍 The thread size should be 10x1.0mm on light fittings good idea to renew the wiring 😊
You can use hay and straw to keep the weeds down in your garden.
Yes, the outer layer of the hay bales would be fabulous for mulching the garden.
It never rains but it pours. I reckon a bottle of your cider sprinkled around the outside of your home, a sort of libation to the household gods, is needed.
Great idea!
Amanda, your pithiness was at its finest in this Vlog. (and please take a small saw with you out to the hay roll. My knuckles were aching for you virtually.)
