My daughter is BotW, TotK obsessed (age 10) and Tchia hits all the right marks for her. Enough so than when it was removed from our PS+ subscription we took the first sale opportunity to purchase it. She changes animals just for the heck of it and runs about wild and so while I agree more function in quests etc related to these skills would be great I think this game leans more into the cozy playful vibe. Maybe someone thought the bits that deviate from this were necessary but the implementation would imply most of the team did not. I love that it is mostly combat less and eschews murdering and weaponry which most games seem to lean on for entertainment value. For kids I think this provides massive open world adventuring, exposure to culture, and engagement in a refreshingly non-violent way while also exposing them to some darkness/ destruction from forces that recall colonialism and industry invading the otherwise natural harmony of the place. Not a perfect game, no. Pretty great though in its core aspirations and what it delivers as an experience.
hehe my daughters tried it (7 and 9yo) on ps5 .. the game looks great, much better than on Switch .. my kids liked it but they tend to prefer online and local coop games so when it left ps+, they never noticed ;p
I played this in PS4 and although the mechanics could be deeper, this one resonated with me a lot. And I dont even live nowhere near the sea. Always enjoyed games which reward you with flight after you experience how hard is to live without it.. Grow Up is my favourite in this. Gliding, climbing, vertigo. Delicious.
I've played this on PC before and I really enjoyed it. Glad that we have it on switch now. It kinda reminded me of my own country. It's places and people and you can soul jump too.. So yeah I liked this game.
Looks just like my type of game; even those "relaxed" games need a bit of action and combat to keep me interested, and I loved the exploration in Windbound, so it looks like a good balance. Thanks for reviewing it, I'm sure I would've missed it otherwise.
Genuinely love the game. Bought the physical. It and Alba are my kinda cozy adventure games. I was just about to finish Beyond Good and Evil again before it arrived, but then it came and i had to play it again.
i LOVED this game when i played it on PS5. I was compelled to reach 100% completion. it’s rare that i 100% a game. hearing the music again is very nice.
Soul jumping into a rock and throwing myself miles across the map was my main source of transportation on my ps5 playthough. Its a super cute game and i had tons of fun. It’s got loads of stuff going on gameplay wise.
Yeah it seems to be a little broken at the moment that mechanic - I would instantly just leave the rock and it would go flying across the map hahah - Mark
@@SwitchUpYt I left my 6 year old to have a razz whilst i did adulting. Came back and my mind was blown. Best and fastest way to travel 😅🤘 If you throw it, then immediately jump back in, it works great. Sometimes if your quick you can do it a couple of times for more speed. I swear man, kids are the future 😜
That soul-jump mechanic is GENIUS! (If a bit like Mario Odyssey) You can tell a lot of love went into this...respect! ps Have you ever tried to steer an ACTUAL raft on a flowing river Mark? It's no point & click adventure matey (!)
I've been really enjoying this one. My biggest complaint so far is the way the map is handled. Took me awhile to get used to navigating without knowing my precise location, but other than that I love the open world exploration and getting distracted going from one point of interest to another. It's not a perfect game, but there's certainly fun to be had.
This game is much better than this review gives it credit for in my opinion. Come to this game understanding it's a personal passion project from a very small team and not a large or even medium sized studio, and I think you'll be shocked by the quantity and quality of experiences there are to have here. This is a small game with a lot of extras, not a large game missing content. This is one of my favorite games in years and one of only 3 games I've ever platinumed on Playstation.
I played it on Playstation 5 and as you said, I liked the Soundtrack a lot. Also there are hidden places (as I remember there a maps) where you need specific animals to find them. For example being a dog to dig something up.
I love the look of this one. Added to the wishlist so I can wait for a bit of a sale! Thanks for bringing it to my attention, somehow I totally missed it.
Oooooh you guys are so cheeky reading my mind again. Honestly, was looking for info on the Switch version of Tchia last night, no luck and then I wake up this morning and of course my favourite Switch channel has a review. Thanks for your thoughts. Might wait for a sale on this one based on the review. 🎉
The music mini-game is giving me PTSD from FF7 Rebirth's. I don't know if it was the mechanics or the timing, but it never clicked for me. I didn't get an "A" rating on anything but the first music sheet I found.
I did try this on playstation but i wasn't too bothered... However, as usual you guys make me want to give games another go.. it's a cool ability the switch up team has that's for sure! I'll have to tear myself away from moonstone though
@@SwitchUpYt yeah I definitely felt that the first time I tried it. I think it's the possession mechanic I want to try again more than anything. Maybe I'll just wait until someone copies that idea but in a 10/10 game
Needing certain animals for certain quests would really have made the soul jumping the key feature in the game.. a missed opportunity. Maybe an opportunity for the next one.
Great game for younger players right up until the last boss when a rolling challenge gets introduced that they have absolutely no chance of doing. Weird decision. Good game though
I agree that I feel like this game wants to do and be too many things at once. I‘m not really vibing with the art style either. Maybe I‘ll pick it up when it‘s on sale though
Given the size of the team and scale of this game, i feel like this is being critiqued backward here. Tchia is a focused game with more mechanics and freedom than it needed added on top, but this review approaches it more like a bigger scope game that didn't flesh all its ideas out. reviews are subjective so I can't tell you you're wrong, but it just feels like the perspective you're coming to this game had you expecting a different thing that what the game actually is.
I was looking at this one but I think I’ll pass in my opinion it just doesn’t have what I’m looking for in an open world game and it seems that there are too many mechanics that don’t work well together
What did you think of this one? Mark
I'll be saving my $$ for other games in July but it seems like a nice little game if lacking on a few fronts and in need of refinement.

I can't believe you stranded that dolphin, you monster >:(
Yeah that was pretty horrific - he made it safely back to sea I assure you! Mark

I legitimately LOVE the look of this game and it seems right up my alley. But it's $45 in my country so I think I'm going to wait for a sale

The lighting and water effects look amazing in this title
I can poop as a seagull! Attention to detail right there!
The music is so good. Might watch a plathrough just for that.
Yeah it is lovely! Mark

Cheers mate yep I was just casually reading minds and your thought popped up 😉. Mark
Like you said, this might be a sale pickup sometime in the future. For now a certain diver named Dave is giving me a funny look…
Buy it on sale mate - if you didn't already! Mark
The sushi chef is the one you should watch out for
Yessss. SwitchUp time! You guys really are the best 😊
Cheers matey! Mark
Switchup is bout the only channel i watch all of their vids even when im not super interested in the game.
@ataridc Same. I've watched every single video. At this point it's part of my daily routine 🙈😊

5am!? Is that US? Mark

It's really odd how much a lack of a sprint option is irritating in games, given how little I've run in real life in the last 20 years.
Thx for uploading ❤
If they made it so you needed a certain animal to fight ceramic bosses. Sort of like a souls like. That would be sweet.
Hmm I think a hammer would be best for a ceramic boss, as you say, but becoming a rhino should also do the trick!
I want a game called "Fetch Quest,: The Quickening"
hahaha your wish is granted! Mark
I still hope Wind Waker HD will come to the Switch or their next console.
Been waiting for years
Great game for younger players right up until the last boss when a rolling challenge gets introduced that they have absolutely no chance of doing. Weird decision.
Good game though
I've been waiting on this one!! Thanks for the review! It's beautiful, but I think I'll wait for a sale or save up for the next Zelda game. :)

I miss Zelda: wind waker
Yeah I think we all do. Mark
Whats the problem? There's always GameCubes and WindWaker CDs available on EBay.

Im over the moon right now. Dave is finally on sale! It's mine! Mine i say!

Dave the Diver? What region? I wish the physical edition would come to Australia 😞

Ohh it does not have gyro control on switch? 😢Noooo....
My aim sucks at joystick. I just can't get the hang of it... 😅
I was interested in this one, but on what you’ve said, defo a deep dive sale
Looks like there’s a bit too much filler for my tastes. Still got minigame burn out from Final Fantasy Rebirth
3:36 Noooooooo 😭😭😭
The Breath of Vacation Waker. This makes me want to go to Island vacation.
If it was a zelda game it would be called. "Tchia: ukulele of souls".
😂😂😂
Zelda killer
Breath of the Wild meets Moana?
That should be the best game ever in my opinion if it was those 2 IPs combined... Moana is ace
Fucking rip offs 😮
I wonder if SBI is involved in this game. :/
