I didnt know Flannsy did all the vocals in this... i guess i shouldve...even after all these years lol Speaking of...when was this shot? How many times have They Might Be Giants been on Conan too?
Most of the time, since most fancy studios in which a professional rock band like TMBG would work have one. I think the first album on which he used one was Apollo 18, for all tracks that have organ except, if I remember correctly, Mammal (which was a MIDI organ sound) and Fingertips (which was pretty much all MIDI anyway, other than a couple of guitar and woodwind tracks).
@@hickorymccay2994 there also seems to be a lot of MIDI keys on the first two albums. But what about Flood? Skyline studio must have had some top-of-the-line keyboards.
@@elirosen1391 I'm not sure about Flood. Maybe Road Movie To Berlin has a real Hammond? Letterbox definitely sounds like a Minimoog bass, and it's been confirmed they used a Moog of some kind for the whipcrack effect on Minimum Wage. But the rest of that album has unusual enough synth sounds that I think they probably used MIDI a lot on it. If I remember correctly, the first two albums have a lot of Fairlight and Akai samplers, and Flood has a lot of Casio FZ-1 sounds.
@@hickorymccay2994 I hear Vox Continental vibes on songs like Birdhouse, Twisting and Sapphire Bullets. And besides Road Movie, I detect a real Hammond sound on We Want a Rock and Letterbox. Plus Flansburgh ran his guitar through a Leslie on Women and Men. So there must have been an actual Hammond involved in Flood.
Hey john henry era flans was really cute
Agreed. A dreamboat for sure
...Did he just say They MAY Be Giants? That better have been a joke.
Mayight
He said Mayight
A reference to a DAS phone message that was on Miscellaneous T. Then again he might have just misnamed them.
I LOVE THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS

This was Oct 30, 1994.
They have had at least 18 Conan appearances (Late Night + TBS)
THAY MAYGHT BE GIAYNTS
This was before I started watching Conan. Sucks because this is my favourite song off this album. TMBG!
October 31, 1994
Thanks!
I know it's Flansy's song but damn, that cameraman did Linnell diiirrty. Barely any screentime!
who's they may be giants? (i took off the intellectuals)
Yah, some really good friends there, eh?
Don’t blame me if the guy’s a nut
What are Linnell's hands doing around 2:22 ?
(if you're really asking, he's glissando-ing with his left hand into each chord!)
Chahol17 bby
Whose this they maight be giants?
Get a load of Flansy's guitar work! It's kind of sad that he ceded most of the lead work to other guitarists after John Henry. And slide bass! Wow!
It could very well be the giants

Although, now that I think about it, the keyboards on Birdhouse and Twisting could both very well be Vox or Farfisa organs.

wacky halloween show
Lead vocal mix too loud
Is that Tony Maimone on bass?
Sure is. Maybe the only time a member of Pere Ubu was on national television
@@petecrigler8804 Pere Ubu did appear once on David Sanborn's "Night Music" show, which was on NBC (I think).
