46 - Torsional Damage?

- Received another GATX car with splits in its outer jacket at the manway/housing. Car was built in 09/1981, which makes it about the same age as the last cars with this problem. Car was last in shop in 2018 and its next scheduled date for service is 2024. I have started the OTMA process to send it to shop.
Somebody told Godzilla that the riser should be finger-tight?
I can’t understand why the jacket splits and deteriorates like that? Thank you for your videos
Wow...
That's jacket shift damage, relatively common on older LPG cars. The car's jacket is anchored to the manway nozzle and when the car is impacted the whole thing shifts, except where it can't at the nozzle. Over time the repeated cycles crack the jacket and make it no longer weathertight, an OTMA condition as you said. Keep up the great work with these videos!
Thank you so much for sharing this.
