Kelly and I got to go to Maker Faire this year! Avid CNC got in touch and asked if we would be interested in using one of their CNC plasma cutting tables to build a project over the course of the faire. I thought a good project would be to build a 10' tall replica of the eiffel tower, since it would be a lot of intricate cutting for the CNC table and it would be instantly recognizable for people passing by. I worked hard on the tower at the faire, but didn't quite get it done. But luckily I was able to get it back to the barn after the show and get it finished up there.
We were bummed Drake couldn't make it to Maker Faire, but we understand. Awesome project and thanks for letting us be a part of it!
MAKE IT up to Drake by installing a tennis ball shooter at the top of the tower that rotates and randomly shoots the balls great distances into the fields. When Drake returns the ball to a trough in the base, the balls are fed back to the top for another round of Go Fetch, or "Va Chercher" as the French would say.
AvidCNC seems like everyone was talking about how cool your both was, I definitely want one of your machines!

Or make a tennis ball 🎾 launching crossbow... super size the one from the fair
You should try to make a crossbow that shoots Drake’s Tennisballs for you.
Actually, I know a guy up here in Portland, OR who DOES make tennis-ball crossbows. He's a knight in the SCA, and his wife calls them fuzzy yellow death from afar.
In a barn in Oregon is a french tower made by a guy with an Irish wife and a dog from Labrador.
Yeah, and in SE Wisconsin there is an older guy with 3 Terriers and three cats who have a TON of respect for you and your wife and Drake!!! Thanks for letting us have a view into your world!
With an international UA-cam audience.
Seems legit.
I think these are the only SquareSpace ads I don't skip.
Right! I enjoy the ads as much as the actual video. Thanks brotha. Patiently waiting for van conversion #4
You create the best ads and make the coolest projects. Excellent work!
I THINK it would make a perfect garden decoration leave it to rust and it will be fine
could be dangerous just make sure to weigh it down to the ground so it doesn't fall over!
@13:50 Idea? Put it up on the barn, as lightning rod !? 😃👍😎
This would be AWESOME!!!
I was going to say "Does the barn have a cupola?"
Great to meet you there 🤟🏼👊🏼
jimmydiresta I was kicking myself afterwards for not getting a little video of Jimmy DiResta hanging out in the booth. What was I thinking? Great to meet you too jimmy!
add some plumbing and use to sprinkler base to water your yard
"Did you design that?"
"No, is was some dude named Gustave LMAO"
Dude, you killed me pointing at the screen next to Drake......
Looks awesome man! Maybe something in a garden corner? Lights? Would look neat once is rusts in place a bit and weathers. Sort of post apocalyptic Paris vignette? Nice job.
The quality of your videos is as outstanding as your attitude is inspiring. Thanks!
I guess the rest of my morning can wait for 15 minutes. :)
Ditto! Clearly all the other things I was supposed to be doing right now are less important than this video! But I'm OK with that...
Same here. :)
Absolutely awesome start of the day!!!!
OMG How much did Squarespace pay You? BEST ADD EVER! Didnt skip it!!!
Liam Miller I actually DID skip it but I went back because of your comment 😄
Best SquareSpace ad ever! (And I’ve seen a bunch.)
A stroke of genius to think about making this at Maker Faire, what better way to show the intricate details the CNC table can cut. Thanks for sharing :-)
Your content and idears are amazing. Thank you for taking your time to make and share all this
Never a beat missed in these movies, even the Square Space ad was a work of art!
Freaking amazing. I’m so impressed with your design skills, video skills, and craftsmanship. Keep it up.
Absolutely fantastic project! Something to be proud of for sure! 😁
Thanks for the video. 👍
I really really enjoy watching your blogs. Please make them more often.
Been watching your videos for a couple of years now. Love your sense of humor and style!
Great job! Glad you saw it to the end.
It's nice that you got to finish the tower. It's always a great feeling to complete a project.
There is a mini-maker fair at OMSI in Portland in September. Even if you're not looking to have a booth, it's a fun day of learning and seeing new things.
Amazing job! Wish we went this year...
My wife and I have been taking our kids to and exhibiting at over 15 Maker Faires. NYC and Bay Area were our favorites by far. I agree, it's bittersweet, as MAKE helped launch our small business - first by connecting us with another author, with whom we started our business, but also for selling our products. The smaller Faires will continue, and hopefully they will restructure.
Amazing project as always
There's nothing more fun than watching boys playing with their toy weapons...whether they're crossbows, guns, or bows...it's all fun! I promise I won't tell on you, Justin. :-))) What a great final piece of music: ..La Marseillaise! That's a PERFECT FINAL image of you standing along side of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel's tower. :-D
I swear I dont know any other youtuber that puts as much effort into your videos, and I don't know how you pump them out so much.
your squarespace ads are just great to watch ^^
You always do amazing projects! This was awesome!
This is seriously EPIC!!! Great work!
Loved today's video..very educational. Thank you for sharing
You did an amazing job putting that together , hope you had lots of fun
Dude just the day before I thought that when I get a cnc table, for my first project I'm gona make an Eiffel tower. This is pretty much what I envisioned, but about 7ft so it fits inside. You beat me to it Gherr. Great project and very nicely done!
Great as always!
Daaaaang. That would be some great yard art. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing work!!
It was fun meeting you and your wife at MF this year... I am stoked that you got to finish the tower and the plywood computer is hilarious, excellent work on the video production there too! Glad you got a chance to meet some of your heroes and fans too.
Hello ! That's an awesome project, and to me there's only one improvement you can make to the nice raw metal look. You see, I live in Paris and I walk by the Eiffel Tower every day, but to me the coolest part about her is the light show by night... If you have the inclination to make it even cooler, try adding a few of these 50s retro light bulbs, that'd be awesome ! Thanks a lot for your work ! (btw that unexpected Marseillaise at the end gave me chills ^^ 🇫🇷🇺🇸🍻)
Quel hommage à Eiffel... Bravo!!!
What a tribute to Eiffel... Bravo!!!
Meanwhile very well done as usual
Great project as usual. Thanks for sharing.
I love it, its big enough to have this mind blowing effect.
Excellent as usual!!!
Had to watch this one twice, so glad your back! Cheers, MVPAIRADICE
This is awesome! Nice work!
What a team you are!! Congrats on your engagement ! I hope you sell this incredible work of art for at least $10,000. ! It will be a focal point in a gorgeous garden, on an upper deck or on a patio!
Love your videos man, keep it up!
That would be a beautiful art piece in your yard.
I think you should paint it with the iron paint, then treat the paint with accelerated rusting solution, then pour a concrete pad in your yard and mount it there with little led lights. It'll be a landmark!
Smokie and in background a sign American Grill👌😉
You are a true artist. Love your videos
Looks like you have an amazing new hood ornament for your new-ish farm truck.
Thanks Squarespace for motivating my favourite maker to get back into making videos
I think your channel is the only channel I click on 100% of the time. As far as that Eiffel Tower, I'm sure there are lots of people in the world that would pay a pretty penny for that. You should try to auction it off or something.
Very cool, thank you for sharing your story. God bless you and your family
Awesome project ... 😁👍🏾🇯🇲 from Jamaica
Another great video always fun seeing your projects. I know how much work goes into making a video, but I really have to commend you on the angle at 12:25, its absolutely beautiful. Keep up the great work in everything you do!
It was great to meet you in person at the fair! Thanks for all the great videos!
Hello I'm like so much watch your videos and good luck with all new projects, greatings From Latvia 🇱🇻
Everything about this is brilliant. C'est très bien!
Like so many of your subscribers I click immediately when I see Rainfall Projects in my notifications. I really admire your creativity and your problem solving and also your sense of humour and editing skills. As to the comment about kids and the Maker Faire, your own children will never lack for the confidence to have a go at solving a problem or creating an object as they will get to see that you work in these ways and know it is valuable. It is all the other children who don’t have a role model who wonders how that works and (more importantly) wonders what would happen if.......
Maybe the tower can be a totally tubular garden trellis for pole beans! A time lapse of the engulfing vines would be awesome.
Phenomenal, well done!
Very cool idea! Ambitious!
Super cool!
I toured an avocado farm down in Chile and the farmer built a 25’ tall replica of the Louvre behind his barn. I think you guys would get along
Très belle réalisation !! Toutes tes vidéos sont inspirantes !! J’adore ...
Very good job !! All of your videos are inspiring !! I love it ...
A channel so good even the ads are top tier content, another great video!
Zipties are an industrial standard for assembling steel.
Also thank you for not sending me away at the Makerfarie, uh that is if you remember the annoying kid(?) that kept stopping by on Sunday
Nice work! You could use the tower to practice your TIG welding, not that you need. After you could use it to grow climbing peas on in the garden!
What a cool project to make. Every video makes me want a Cnc ! Or a laser cutter. This would be a great project on wood too!
farm decor, also it makes me happy seeing makers who live in the same state
Great job!
You could use it to grow a topiary in Kelly's garden in the shape of the tower. Sweet Peas would look lovely growing on it. :-)
It was good to have met you at the Maker Faire JD. Glad you finished the thing, it would be neat as one of those glass tube outdoor heaters.
Good stuff, as usual!
Amazing!!
excellent work
Another great video and content!
Would make a heck of a lightning rod on the barn! Thanks for sharing!
Mammoth effort. Well done!
Just need the mini lights. Awesome!
awesome job
fantastic job
Liking the new cover photo!
Awesome work! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Great great uncle Gustav would be most flattered by your project!
Great story and great build! You're so good at this UA-cam thing :)
This is like a life size metal earth model!
Why not put it in your garden and let some boston ivy overgrow it - the closest you get to homegrown french red wine 🍷
That is the best square space ad I've seen!
A few years later: That's a mighty fancy coat rack you got there, Mister.
Seriously impressive build. Bummed I couldn't make it to Maker Faire.
Well, at least I can console myself by visiting on Drake's blog.
Amazing! What a nice Eiffel Tower.
Good job from FRANCE for the EIFFEL tower .
And for the others things too .
It's your new green christmas tree! Ornaments should hang off it fairly well.
Saw you at maker faire, was a bit star struck according to my wife... Sorry I wasn't super talkative + you seemed super busy! :)
Love your editing :D
Nicely done. I'LL TAKE IT!
Been waiting for this episode ever since the guys from Tested mentioned you were at Maker fair!
Peter Speak Ya I’m a big tested fan too, i was really excited to meet norm. I listen to their podcast every week.
Wherever you put it, it should be lit with as scale as possible LEDs since lights and metal are one of your things. Love all of your videos, been watching for a couple of years. Daniel
