    I had the insufficient ventilation notification and flashing red ring occur on my Xbox and found this really helpful video. I carried out the steps to clean it and blew out the dust from the fan. I put it all back together and the same error occurred. I then adjusted the position of the Xbox and power block, making sure I kept the fan side vent clear (right hand side of Xbox, horizontal), it seems to be working ok now. Thanks for your help!

    I've been needing this, I got an E model and for some reason they're really unpopular when it comes to everything: resale, repair, modeling. I mean, I can't help that I was born the same year it was released! Not to mention I had to get old enough to gain consciousness to realize I wanted an Xbox! 😂 Either way I'm way into retro collecting now and so I'm enjoying what I can scrounge up, but admittedly this thing has been around seven years and probably needs a good cleaning. (Some ancient hamster cage shavings need to be retrieved too 😬)
    Funny story about this bad boy, he came with me through the 2016 floods here in Louisiana. Carried that bad boy and all my electronics in a waterproof cooler bag. Ds got stolen at the shelter and the iPad locked me out after a particular update (was bought used), but this still works. Just wish I had taken better care of some of my old discs, especially the boxes. But seriously this thing probably needs serious dusting. Planning to buy a region free set of Assassin's Creed Heritage collection for my Bday so this thing needs to be in top shape for the long hours ahead.
    My advice for the back section that uses three prys is that on the far left where the power port is, using a flashlight you can actually pull the tab down from the side, unfortunately scratched the back pretty bad before I realized it was in clear shot, plan to get another original Xbox 360 when I get older because it has the actual retro style that most people know.

Do you think it is the case? I've had it for over a year and the warranty is gone now. Never cleaned it before. Dust can really cause this stuttering? Thanks, keep it up, amigo. Greetings from Argentina.

    • @ClovisX
      @ClovisX  7 років тому +5

      Dust makes your game system run hotter and hotter over time and excessive heat can cause all kinds of problems including burning out chips, components, cracking of solder and all kinds of bad stuff. NOW will it fix your problem who knows? But the first thing I would do in my shop is clean it, so you should clean it and see what happens.

      Yes I know how to fix everything with this and all game systems shown on this channel but You should not be trying to fix it yourself because you will destroy your system trying to fix something that is not broken do to an uneducated UA-camr or a Guess, there are lots of reasons for your problem and without proper testing there is no way anyone can tell you your problem will be this or that.

    You can also use the jaws on a pair of 12” calipers instead of the custom tool to insert into the ends of the X bracket and pop it off. NOTE: something not entirely clear from the video is that you have to put the tool or calipers INTO the end of the X bracket in order to pop it off. It appeared to me that the tool was being inserted UNDER the X bracket and that is not correct and I accidentally damaged my motherboard as a result.

    • @ClovisX

      Okay let me get this straight, You F'up your system then give advice as if you know shit about how to do this??????? I show this video to show you how to not damage the X-Clamp using something as stupid as a pair of 12" calipers or screwdrivers and the like because you need that X-Clamp to work properly and using improper tools only damages them even if you don't understand how because you are uneducated.

      @ClovisX  7 років тому

      He knocked the tray off track it must be very carefully removed then the calibration of the drive must be set to accept the tray. If the tray is not damaged once it is installed properly it will work fine. I charge $20 if you're local to me [Clovis, CA.] to remove and reinstall the tray. if you're not local, I suggest you find a repair shop near and not try this yourself as most that try will brake the drive trying remove it or install it making a replacement of the hole drive required.

    Question should I repaste my 360 slim? I have had no heating problems with it, I got it used, and have had it since early 2012, many nights of halo 4 on it. Only problems i've had have been with my controller, which works fine when plugged in, but likes to turn off when it's shaken, It has been dropped a few times on accident. And my copy of reach wouldn't read, but after some searching, I've found out that Reach discs have had that problem since day one, something inside the coding or something (Another example of Bungie trying to sink Halo). It's the black glossy model, I believe it's the 250GB, since it was originally sold with the Kinect sensor.

      +Jmeon4eva Thermal paste should be replaced no less than every 6 years providing the box has not been running very hot do to dust, if when you last or first time you cleaned it, it was packed with dust then yes it could not hurt to have it replaced as long as the person knows what he or she is doing and is not going to bolt it or try over heating it thinking that is what they are suppose to do after a repast, When it is not.

    I followed this in order to clean my fan on my Xbox 360 E because it kept overheating and now it says there are no storage devices found and I don’t have any of my accounts or anything. It also keeps asking for an update but since it doesn’t detect my hdd I can’t update it. Any help?

      you likely unplugged the hard drive cable by accident or put them on the board wrong look at them pose the video at 13:23 to see if your cables match the ones in your system.

    Sir my Xbox 360 suddenly failed to connect with TV or PC Monitor by both AV cable and HDMI cable. Though we have been playing it by HDMI cable for 1 year but one day suddenly
    it did not work. Though the HDMI cable was good we bought another one and also bought a AV cable but it didn't work. We also noticed that the light of Xbox 360 power button was not as bright as it was before. We tried to connect it with many TVs and PC monitors but we couldn't succeed at all. What do we do now? What is the problem with our Xbox 360? Please help us 😔😔

    Hey man great video, I have a problem, I was cleaning the dust and opened the xbox and the power supply brick and I put them all together again but now the xbox won't turn on, the light goes red and that's it, everything wasput back together like it was before, I don't understand what I did wrong or what could've happened, please just give me some insight and your opinion on what could have happened, I'm desperate right now and I don't know if I fucked my console up.

      you likely did not put it back together correctly and I never told anyone to open the PSU they can easily be damaged and burn down your house killing everyone in it, I would recommend you take it to a qualifed shop or at very least if you insist actually follow the directions in the video so it will work.

    Hi TheHGCGamersClub.
    What to do when we clean, repast and even so the solid red light continue? I did the step by step exactly as you showed in this video but no success. When I turn on the button immediately get red and the fan starts to spin for 3 seconds and then stop. Although my Xbox 360 E is a little bit old (2013) it is pretty lightly used. It must have been used 10 times or less in this meanwhile... Really don't understand why got this problem. I would like to make it works again for the kids to play. I appreciate if you can give me some tip. Thanks!

    • @ClovisX
      @ClovisX  7 років тому

      Cleaning is preventative maintenance, not a repair it is to avoid red lights and other problems before they happen. Yes, Cleaning it will fix overheating problems and every once in a great while a red light eschews like you just discribed, but normally once you get red lights it is way too late to clean because something has failed and needs to be repaired or replaced thanks to the heat. With a system that is very lightly used as you have described your problem will be one that you will not be able to do at home and I will not be able to talk you through doing anything, you need to take it to a qualified repair shop to have it repaired or buy a new system.

    Followed to a T. And still nothing I get the power to come on, the fan tries to kick in but then stops, after looking at the front on off eject and sync resistors I noted it kept flickering very fast red, over the D1? No idea what this means. I can very occasionally get it to the sign in screen but then it shuts down immediately. I can not figure where the failure is? Tried swapping power bricks, thermal paste, its spotlessly clean. I'm lost?

      I Do not recommend you Do that Unless it is still overheating! Do not replace the thermal paste Unless it is necessary, Seriously it is fine and will be for up to 5 years or more easily Even With the Partially Dried Assembly line thermal paste providing it is not running super hot do to dust build up baking it Dry.

    My power supply is fully functional, but my 360 e decided not to turn on today. I unplugged it from the box, and then the extension cord and decided to go right into a wall outlet and back into the box. Light stays on solid orange. No blinking. Two times out of probably 50, the power button light flickered on, but not longer than a second. There haven't been any power surges or lightning strikes etc. It just sits on the tv stand. Any thoughts as to the issue? I'm sure repasting isn't the problem, but just inquiring for your expertise.

    do you recommend a cleaning and repasting for this issue ?

    • @ClovisX

      Start with cleaning if that does not work then and only then should you attempt to replace the thermal paste. Word of caution I have seen grown men and all manner of kids destroy their system trying to replace thermal paste so I would recommend finding a qualified shop to do that part.

    hi, great video, just wanted to ask your opinion on repasting. I have cleaned the 360 and I still have spare arctic silver 5 but my 360 is working fine and I just cleaned it because of 2 years use, some might say if it's not broken than why, but arctic silver is better and I might prevent future heating problems. what's you're opinion on repasting?

    • @ClovisX
      @ClovisX  9 років тому

      +MGrider You cleaned it and it is working good, so I would say that unless your fans are running lowered than normal? You should not renew the Thermal paste, it can last for 5+ years if it does not get baked dry from over heating do to dust or use, so if your box is not running lowed then it is not dry and you do not need to re-paste the box, I do not know how skilled you are and taking apart electronics or game systems to that level, but you should know that it can be hazardous to your game system even if you are use to opening them every day, anything can go wrong, and you could wind up having to buy a new box before you are ready or even able to.

      Once you get a red light or a system that is throwing an error it is normally too late for a cleaning or replacing the thermal paste, it needs a repair.

    How often should one change the thermal paste on the e? I have mine for about 5 years now.

    • @ClovisX
      @ClovisX  5 років тому

      if it has been kept clean it can last up to 10 years before it should be changed but there are other factors to consider but the best way to know is the fan if it is running louder than normal then it is likely time to clean it or if it is clean then renew/change the thermal paste but I would not recommend you do that, most of you will only damage the system 99.9% of the UA-cam videos showing you how do not give you the proper information you need to know in order to remove the X-clamp without damaging it and your system let alone how to put the X-clamp back on the right way to prevent it from running hot and killing its self over time.
