grant, I'm 60 and I feel the same way. I'm so glad he sang this, because I had never heard it before and hadn't heard of Brandi Carlile, but now I have some of her music on my ipod. Beni seems to be such a good person with a heart of gold and an old soul. Most 14 year olds aren't like that, and that makes him so special in my heart. That song spoke to me so much, taking me back to childhood getting bullied, etc. Brandi grew up with nothing and was bullied as well. If you watch her performance at the Grammy's, it's easy to see how happy she is that those bullies probably will never reach the level she has in life.
I have cancer and one time during treatment, I had a breakdown and didn’t want to leave my bed. The nurse brought the psychologist in the a few days later and she got me to fight again. It was very hard to find a purpose to fight but I did it. You see, I have a dream of when my cancer is cured and I can return to a life with sports and school and hair on my head. So listen up cancer, even if I'm not strong enough to beat you, well it’s not 1 against 1. It’s a very large team against 1, you. And what reinforcements do you have? “I’m dreaming of another life. I’m dreaming and I dare to fly. I’m dreaming that I could touch the sky. Don’t tell me that I can’t. That I’ll lose like it’s your demand. I’m on the edge about to take the leap. Here goes nothing.” Every line Beni sings about someone trying to break him is like the cancer in my ear saying give up. And every line he sings about dreaming is me telling the cancer no way, I’m doing what I want, not what you want. And I wanna live. Not just survive cancer but actually live. Hang out at the mall and go to hockey games and vacation. And of course, sit on the couch on Tuesday nights with my sisters and cheer on Beni in AGT! Hope you win!
