    Great video Killian. I've personally found that oral minoxidil 5mg a day has been a huge boost not only with my transplanted hair on top, but equally as important, in my donor region also (which has taken quite a hammering. Lol). Again great video and thanks for sharing!

      @@oncall21 is 5mg not a lot? Any sides? Is it a safe drug? I'm thinking of trying it out then also easing myself back onto fin 1mg 3 times weekly. Doc told me that fin 3 times weekly can help avoid sides yet its almost as effective as the daily usage.

    Before hopping over to oral minoxidil you can try adding tretinoin to topical minoxidil and boost the sulfotransferace. But you hadn't mention that?

    • @TheHairChemist
      @TheHairChemist  3 місяці тому +2

      This can be helpful as it increases absorption and expression. However, it is not the most practical. It adds another element to the routine, which will increase probability of quitting treatment - it is already probable that most will discontinue on the topical alone without additional steps added.
      Most importantly though, it will not resolve the issue of having the product reach the scalp in it's entirety as there still exists the hair barrier itself.
      Oral Minoxidil is therefore more practical, and ultimately a more effective option as there is no percutaneous and hair barrier. There is also more bio-activation due to wider availability of sulfotransferase (Liver, platelet, and outer root sheath). This is why tretinoin is not worth considering, unless there is an aversion to oral therapy.

    Thank you for the information. In the past, I used topical mino for 15 years, and about a year ago I switched to oral mino 2.5 mg. My doctor advised me to gradually increase up to 5 mg of mino, because there was no improvement, but she warned me that there would be side effects. My question: Is it worth combining Mino topical 5% once a day, with 2.5 mg Mino orally, instead of increasing to 5 mg orally, to improve the treatment, and also to avoid side effects?

    • @TheHairChemist
      @TheHairChemist  3 місяці тому

      It would be more effective to take 5mg alone. Combing topical and oral minoxidil is not wise as the hair becomes dependant on two actives. When you stop one inevitably there can be a shed.

    Hi Killian. Hope you're having a great day. I had a few things boggling me and wanted to ask about your opinion.
    I'm worried about what people call "Post Finasteride Syndrome". I've seen many talk about how disastrous using fin was for them and that they've gotten a wide range of long-term side effects BUT I've seen many others including yourself not experience any side effects at all! I'm just feeling a bit lost. Which one is it? how can I measure the chances of me experiencing these side effects?
    My second concern is the effects of finasteride on my liver. If I should take this medication for presumably the foreseeable future, won't I eventually harm my liver after prolonged use? How should I go on about this?
    And one final concern. Is it possible to use finasteride forever? I am aware that it can't cure baldness, but how long can a person take it?
    Apologies for the long comment. I'm just feeling lost a bit...

      If concerned I would recommend titrating it from .5 to 1mg over 6 months. You can always take it on Monday Wednesday and Friday for still very good, if not near the same benefit :)

      Usually cold temperatures have no effect on the stability of the product. They do thermal cycling studies in the pharmaceutical sector to show this for transport of the product.

      I live in Ireland and its such a struggle to get it here. My GP wont prescribe it and the cheapest consultation I can get here with a HT clinic here is €250, only then will they prescribe it, if they feel its necessary.
      I am contacting as many clinics within the EU to find a cheaper solution to getting a prescription for Loniten.

    Hi man quick question if you’re able to answer, I’ve been on finasteride 1mg and oral minoxidil for around 4 and a half months, due to prescription problems I havnt taken finasteride for over 3 weeks and am now beginning to shed way way more hair than before I took the brief break ( btw I’ve got my prescription on it’s way) just wondering is this what would normally happen and when I start taking finasteride again after 3 and a half weeks how long will I be shedding for ? Thanks for the great content 👍

      After 2 weeks DHT returns to baseline unfortunately. A shed usually begins after this. You will notice thinness beginning about 1-2 months post cessation.

      @@TheHairChemist We really need to see the rates to make the risk/reward assessment. Oral minoxidil s potentially lethal, so needs to be (an almost surely is) vanishingly small rate to be worth the aesthetic benefit. This goes for all prescription drugs. I wish the FDA would force pharma to put percentage risk next to each side effect - like say, the chance of occurring during a 6 month period for an average Caucasian. Shouldn't be up to the public to just try to piece it together from anecdotes. In the absence of good information, it behooves us to be more cautious than probably necessary.

      1. Take it man, one pill won't really do damage, if you get any side effects, they will disappear after interrupting intake of the medicine. I would start at 0.25mg, take it for 3 Months to asses sides, than i would up the dose
      2. Sides occur in only 2% of men, you got to be one of the unluckiest to get side effects
      3. I read on a lot of forums that is best to stop taking it, 6 Months before trying to procreate, so that you make sure that finasteride is completely out of your system

    Hi Killian, I have my 2nd transplant with Dr Saifi booked next Monday 26th August.
    Had 2040 FUE in December 2020.
    Used finasteride for 3 years but noticed it lost efficacy. While using fin I had lower libido and viscuous semen, I accepted it, it didn't botjer me much. When fin lost efficacy I swapped it for dutasteride.
    Quit dutasteride after 3 months because of devastating sides. Luckily it looks like I am recovering from those sides, however I do not want to use anti androgens again.
    Would you reccomend using oral minoxidil as a standalone treatment after my transplant next week, or is minox ineffective unless paired with fin/dut?
    Are there nasty sides with minox?
    Cheers.
