- Science and Futurism with Isaac Arthur is a UA-cam channel which focuses on exploring the depths of concepts in science and futurism. Since its first episode in 2014, SFIA has considered topics ranging from the seemingly mundane, to the extremely exotic, featuring episodes on megastructure engineering, interstellar travel, the future of earth, and the Fermi paradox, among others. Yet regardless of how strange a subject may seem, Isaac always tries to ensure that the discussion is grounded in the known science of today.

This is the best Arthursday ever.
One of the strangest things about the future is that, in 100 years, your great great grandchildren will be able to look on web archives and see photos of you making out with some random guy/girl in college and know the exact date, time, and place that occurred. Compare that to a discussion I just had with my mom about her grand parents, she didn't even know their names.

You will have many lives no matter you make a copy or not. Your copy will feel nothing it will be AI the moment it is created. You'll take the original when you go, but we reincarnate mostly unconscious of our past because of disconnecting trauma at birth and death. Our only hope is to uncover the trauma that has fractured our analytical and bring it in to view and let the trauma discharge.

If I had 500 years to spend reading, I'd read Stephen King's The Stand. Just kidding, but I would love to blow 500 years on just reading and research.
If you have 500 years to live, you definitely have to read the stand. One of the best books I have ever read by far, and im only 486 years old!

Personally, I happen to think that assuming there will be super intelligent AI in the future is premature. I happen to believe there is something we're missing about cognition and sapience that will take a very long time to resolve and fully understand.

6:12 I'm 50 years and 7 months old, I was born late 1971, I have a lot of memories from my 3.5; 4; 5; 6 and 7 years. In kindergarten; playing in my "neighborhood" with my neighbors (in France, Paris); tv shows; the games with my older sister, etc.
I started to forget my memory, from before I was 3 and a half years old (in the Caribbean raised by an aunt) when I didn't live with my parents, around 5 years old.
Always a treat to sit in on a conversation with these guys, forward thinking,broad ranging, topical and always something fresh to stimulate the imagination.
More of this kind of thing I say🤓

18:25. I think when it comes to sci-fi now. I think we should dive more into extra-dimensional & paranormal stuff in a scientific sense. A really good game of late I have been playing is called "Control", it uses fantasy elements into sci-fi, not making it overpowering & ridculas but making it where it is govern by the laws of physics we yet to discover. In that game you play as a psychic who has strong telepathic powers trying to stop an interdimesional demonic threat called the Hiss.
This was uploaded exactly an hour into the new year where I live. Great New Year Gift from my favourite youtubers.

I'm glad they discussed life extension. I'm 34 and I hope and believe medical advances and technology will help me live for a long time. So much I want to witness in the future. I've read that they believe they can double life expectancy here in the near Future, lets hope so.

Another top chat. Many thanks! And how great to hear that Isaac is a Blake's 7 fan. The wobbly sets and Paul Darrow as Kerr Avon combine to make it essential viewing. Some of our best 70s British sci-fi (along with Space: 1999, which Isaac might also like). There's also a range of really good Blake's 7 enhanced audio books with the original cast. They're on Napster so might be on other streaming services.
I was born in 1959. I vividly remember Apollo 11 and the first moon landing -- I was ten years old.
I want to live to be 120. I probably will, if I don't lose the will to do so.

The new Peter F. Hamilton Salvation series is pretty good as far as Sci-fi books go. I actually started reading him because Isaac recommended Pandora's Star on one of his episodes.
If you gentlemen would put half this much energy into trying to understand things and get inside yourself and understand them that would put you that much closer to the Lord
